Safe, Respectful, Responsible Learners Page 1 www.maraylya-p.schools.nsw.edu.au Term 1 Week 11 8 th April 2016 Principal’s Message We’ve arrived at the end of a busy first term. A term that has witnessed some great achievements already in sport, dance, drama, music and across the academic areas invigorated with new syllabuses. As educators, we recognise this is a very exciting time for public education through new reforms in regards to teacher quality, school excellence, school fund allocation, new syllabus content, communication and business management. Such widespread change is a great challenge that we are committed to meeting with the resources in our grasp. We are also very glad that we face these challenges alongside our supportive and co-operative community. As a small school, these are challenges that are met by a smaller group of people, however, they are a group of people possessing amazing resourcefulness and commitment towards ensuring the best for their students, your children. I hope you all have a wonderful break (if you get one) with your families and look forward to continuing on our way next term. ‘Village Life’ Coming Events School Development Day Term 2 Tue 26 th Apr P&C Meeting (Apr+May) Tue 26 th Apr 7pm Term 2 commences Wed 27 th Apr Mothers’ Day Stall Mon 2 nd May Small Schools X-Country Fri 6 th May District X-Country Fri 20 th May 2-6 Athletics Carnival Fri 17 th Jun K-1 Athletics Carnival Tue 21 st Jun SS Athletics 27 th & 29 th Jul 5/6 Camp 3 rd – 5 th Aug District Athletics 10 th & 12 th Aug Maraylya Monster Fest’ Sat 29 th Oct Interrelate Stage 2 & 3 Thu 10 th Nov From 6pm Presentation Night Tue 6 th Dec Year 6 Mini Fete Fri 9 th Dec Year 6 Farewell Tue 13 th Dec Notes Home POP (Parent Online Payment) MARAYLYAN The

POP (Parent Online Payment) Make Online Payments

It is now possible for parents to make online payments to the school for amounts owing for students, via a secure payment page hosted by Westpac. Payments can be made using either a Visa or MasterCard credit or debit card. The payment page is accessed from the front page of the schools website by selecting : $ Make a payment

Items that can be paid include voluntary school contributions, subject contributions, excursions, sales to students and creative and practical arts activities (these include band, drama and dance). There is also a category called ‘Other’ to cover items not covered in the previous headings, ‘Other’ can be used to make a complete payment of a school invoice.

When you access the $ Make a payment you must enter:

• the student’s name, and class and reference number OR • the student’s name and date of birth.

These details are entered each time you make a payment as student information is not held within the payment system.

This is a secure payment system hosted by Westpac to ensure that your credit/debit card details are captured in a secure manner, these details are not passed back to the school.

You have the ability to check and change any details of the payment before the payment is processed. Receipts can be emailed to you and/or printed.

Details of the payments are passed daily to the school where they will be receipted against your child’s account. A further receipt will then be issued by the school and sent home with your child.

For any enquiries regarding the Online Payment process please contact the School Administration Office.

We thank you for your co-operation and patience as we move into this new payment system. Cash and cheque will still, of course, be accepted at the office. Canteen payments for lunches at this stage will still be made in cash.

Talk Soon – Talk Often For many parents the thought of raising the subject of changing body parts, relationships and sexuality sends shivers down their spine. But help is at hand. Talk soon. Talk often is a new publication distributed by Nepean Blue Mountains Local Health District’s sexual health promotion team. The book is free of charge, and is being offered to families in participating primary schools like ours across Blue Mountains, Penrith, Hawkesbury and Lithgow local government areas. We think you will find that Talk soon. Talk often is a supportive tool for families in the development of happy, healthy and confident young people, by helping to establish open and honest communication about personal development and self-esteem from early in childhood. Talking soon, and talking often, helps parents & carers to avoid the need for that ‘one big talk’; instead, the book provides them with tips on creating easy conversations about bodies, relationships, health and sexuality, as part of routine communication. Please visit the office for your free copy of this high quality resource to help start ‘the talk’ in your own time. Wellbeing and PBL (Positive Behaviour for Learning) PBL will involve the further teaching of explicit lessons on expected behaviour in various locations around the school. These lessons will guide students to identify what safe, respectful and responsible behaviour ‘looks like’ in various contexts. Last fortnight the focus was the ‘Villages’. Weeks 10 and 11 will focus on the ‘ play equipment ’ area of the playground. Posters have been placed in these areas to remind our students the expected behaviour in each area treated. New Roof!

Canteen News!

With the colder months coming it is time to change our menu to suit the chilly days. We are taking a lot of summer favorites off the menu, but do not be concerned as most of these items will return again in the spring/summer menu. Good news is that these items are being replaced with something new and exciting, we think! What can you expect..??? nachos, chicken and sweet corn soup, protein balls are some of the new items on offer. We will also have continued favorites like garlic bread, pies and sausage rolls. We have nearly completed the menu but need a little more time to finalise a few things so we do not have it to send home this week but will distribute it on our first day back at school. The first day back at school will be a canteen day so we will have the both old and new menus operating as best as we can. Have a great holiday and thank you for your support during first term
