Dear Valued Partner, The first quarter of our fiscal year for LEDA and Visit Lubbock kicked off with exciting opportunities as well as predicted challenges. As anticipated, the number of new prospects for LEDA dropped off primarily as a result of the national election. This is very typical, no matter who is in office at the time. The prospects we are seeing include more distribution-related companies and about 10 percent of our prospects are interested in rail-served facilities. Currently, one of the biggest things holding us back when it comes to landing deals is the availability of buildings that adequately meet interested companies’ needs. As far as employment trends go, private business continued to hire in the first quarter, while the state laid off some local employees according to recent reports. Visit Lubbock continues to see strong growth in the tourism industry. Occupancy is up 7 percent over the last year, and up 14 percent over the last 22 months. Lodging revenue has increased 9.5 percent from October 2011, and is up 5.1 percent for the year. Several new hotels are in the initial building phase across the “Hub City.” These include a new Courtyard Marriott and Holiday Inn Express, which should be completed by the spring of 2013. Along with the positive travel and tourism trends, our sporting events have brought many more room nights than expected, which is a great boost for our fall numbers. Throughout this report, you’ll find more detailed information regarding prospects and where we stand on reaching our fiscal year goals. As always, please feel free to forward the Lubbock Report to any interested friends and colleagues. Thank you for your continued support of LEDA and Visit Lubbock. Sincerely, LEDA, in partnership with Workforce Solutions South Plains and various other organizations, hosted three different job fairs in the first quarter of the fiscal year. The biannual South Plains Job Fair, held in October, featured 74 employers and was attended by 2,500 job seekers. The South Plains Career Expo, also held in October, showcased 124 exhibitors and was attended by 3,924 students from 58 school districts. In November, LEDA helped host the Red, White and You Veteran Job Fair, which showcased 56 area employers. During October and November, LEDA reached out to local employers and human resource professionals to participate in the Wage and Benefit Survey for a second year. In total, 80 local businesses across all industries completed the survey. The results of the Wage and Benefit Survey will be presented at a luncheon in January 2013. Dear Valued Partner,

The first quarter of our fiscal year for LEDA and Visit Lubbock kicked off with exciting opportunities as well as predicted challenges. As anticipated, the number of new prospects for LEDA dropped off primarily as a result of the national election. This is very typical, no matter who is in office at the time.
