FROM THE PASTOR

Dear Members and Friends,

The lectionary readings (suggested scripture readings for each Sunday for a three-year cycle)

for the month of March, 2015, explore the journey of Jesus to the cross. During the month of

March we will focus on taking a journey to Jesus. On Sunday, March 1st, we will take a

journey to Jesus with as speech. As we take a journey to Jesus, we need to imitate Jesus as

He spoke. Jesus spoke plainly about His death and resurrection, about the work of the devil, and about

following Him. We as Christians need to be bold enough to speak on these issues also.

We will begin Sunday, March 8th

an hour earlier as Daylight Savings Times begin.

Please set your clock ahead on Saturday night so that you do not arrive at the church as

the service ends. On that Sunday, we will look at taking a journey to Jesus with our

minds. As we take a journey to Jesus, our minds must move from thinking that faith in

Christ is foolishness to realizing that faith in Christ is wisdom and power, for “the

foolishness of God is wiser than man’s wisdom, and the weakness of God is stronger

than man’s strength.”

On Sunday, March 15th

, we will take a journey to Jesus with our faith. As we take a

journey to Jesus, we move from the grace of God convicting us of our need for Christ,

to faith in Christ, to acts of service for Christ. On that Sunday, we will talk about John

Newton’s “Three Wonders of Heaven.”

A different type of journey will be taken on Sunday, March 22nd

, as we take a journey to

Jesus through music, through our favorite hymns. The words of these songs come out of

the writer’s own journey to Jesus.

Finally, on March 29th

, Palm Sunday, we will take a journey to Jesus through our

praise. We praise Jesus through our obedience, our submission, our repentance, and

our life.

I hope that you will join us for each of these worship services as we take a journey to Jesus.

Prayerfully yours,

Pastor Harold

Trinity United Methodist Church Council Minutes – January 2015

The Church Council meeting was held in the Goodhart Classroom on Monday, January 19, 2015 at 7:00 p.m.

Those in attendance were:

Karen Boutcher, Marylue Durff, Dave Evelhoch, Scott Gleim, Al Grove, Janet Grove, Jenny Harkins, Glorianne

Hilsinger, Kim Holmes, Tom Holmes, Marty Sheaffer, Corrie Wadel. Pastor Harold was attending a Retreat and

not in attendance.

Tom Holmes called the meeting to order. Dave Evelhoch offered an opening prayer.

The December 2014 Secretary’s report was reviewed as submitted. Janet Grove made a motion to accept the

minutes and the motion was seconded by Marty Schaeffer. The December minutes were approved by verbal

vote.

The Treasurer’s annual report was reviewed. Marty Sheaffer reported that the Shares of Ministry are 2 months

in arrears. Tom Holmes noted that Year to Date Total looks good and a strong effort was made during the last

quarter to assist with the Shares of Ministry. With no changes the Treasurer’s report was approved as presented.

STEWARDSHIP: Scott Gleim reported the Committee is working on numbers for the upcoming Church

Conference and this will be complete and ready next week. Tom noted that attendance was good through the 4th

quarter of 2014.

TDCC: Nothing new to report.

WORSHIP: Kim Holmes reported that the Worship Committee held two meetings and they have set a general

calendar for 2015 with each month having a specific theme. February’s theme will be Giving Your Heart to

Jesus. Kim said it was nice to see various areas of the Church working to tie the theme together. Tom noted that

the new computer was in use this past Sunday.

VISION: Marylue Durff reported that the Vision Team has prepared recommendations in follow up to the draft

organizational chart which was presented to Council at last months’ meeting. Marylue passed out copies of 2

recommendations for discussion and review. The first item is the proposed organizational structure which needs

approval by Council. After general discussion, it was decided to table this until next month. The second item is

a suggestion to provide copies of the monthly Council minutes in a timelier manner to the members. Currently,

the Minutes are part of the Love Letter and not sent out until the following month. The process of providing the

minutes will be discussed with Pastor Harold and will be followed up on at next month’s meeting.

The subject of numerous Teams and Committees was brought up: is there a way to streamline this process; can

some of these be combined? It was asked of the Council which of these Teams and Committees actually are

required to attend the Council Meeting. Research needs to be done to see what the Book of Discipline says on

Council attendance requirements. It was expressed that this information should be shared with the various

volunteers to inform them of the specific requirements when they are asked and agree to participate on any

particular Team or Committee. Al Grove told the Council that anything voted on by Conference, requires

approval through Conference. This may pertain to the organizational structure and it was agreed this would also

be researched and discussed with the Pastor. The Vision Team is scheduled to meet next week.

BUILDING COMMITTEE: Nothing to report.

AUDIT: All account books need to be sent in to the Audit Committee.

Page 7: THE LOVELETTERTHE LOVELETTER MARCH 2015 TRINITY UNITED METHODIST CHURCH GROWING GOD’S KINGDOM Rev. Harold A. Bolyard, Jr. Church Office Phone…532-7606 Website… Email…trinitywb@embarqmail.com

TRUSTEE: Dave mentioned that the Trustees want to perform another radon test. Tom Holmes provided the

Council with additional information he obtained from the Newscast (ABC27) about radon in

Pennsylvania. Tom called in and spoke with one of the experts on the panel and was informed of the

following: The expert recommended that we look at a chart that Tom handed out at the meeting from the US,

EPA relating to the risk assessment of life time exposure to various radon levels. It was learned that

Pennsylvania has no State Law on levels for radon, nor is there any pending litigation on radon. Tom was also

informed by the people on the EPA Panel that our Church does not ‘need’ to do anything and they did not seem

to think that our level was a ‘major’ problem that requires immediate action. In fact, it was suggested that for

levels between 4 and 10 (like ours), that a (4 season) test be done. It was suggested that a second letter be

prepared with some of this additional information and be sent to Church members, families of Day care, etc.

This information will be shared with Pastor Harold upon his return from the Retreat.

OUTREACH: Glorianne shared the following dates scheduled for My Brother’s Table:

March 15, August 2 and December 6th

.

YOUTH: Corrie gave the following event dates:

Activity day: January 25th

Outing: February 8

Activity day: February 22

Outing: March 8

Spring Bloom: March 21

Activity day: March 22

Sunrise Breakfast: April 5

Activity day: April 19

Outing: May 3

Activity day and Parade prep: May 17

Walnut Bottom Parade: May 23 - Pending

Kings Fest Prep: June 7 and 21

Kings Fest: June 24 – 28

Fireman’s Fair: June 25 – 27

Vacation Bible School: Pending

As reported in previous meetings, King’s Fest will conflict with the Annual Ice Cream Social for the next 2 or 3

years. There was a general discussion on the Church taking over the Ice Cream Social so we do not lose this

fund raising opportunity. Tom suggested trying to keep this event and noted last year there were plenty of

volunteers. The youth group have discussed hosting dinners to raise funds for King’s Fest if we cannot keep the

Ice Cream Social event.

FOOD BANK: Corrie said things have settled down after the Holiday. A list of needed items will be placed in

the Church Bulletin on a monthly basis. There may be a Food Drive in May.

SHUT INS: There will be a Valentine Visit in February.

UMW: Janet reported the February meeting has been cancelled. March 10th

will be the Walnut Bottom Senior

luncheon. A dinner will be planned around Easter for the Special Needs group.

SCOUTING: Nothing new to report.

OLD BUSINESS: Tom reminded the group to pick up a flyer for the upcoming Texas Roadhouse event.

Page 8: THE LOVELETTERTHE LOVELETTER MARCH 2015 TRINITY UNITED METHODIST CHURCH GROWING GOD’S KINGDOM Rev. Harold A. Bolyard, Jr. Church Office Phone…532-7606 Website… Email…trinitywb@embarqmail.com

Tom said the new collection envelopes are out and there have been no comments. Tom reported the Counting

Team has worked to streamline the process and it is a lot less work for Cliff and Susie.

NEW BUSINESS: Glorianne said South Newton Township sent letters regarding the 2019 Bi-centennial. A

meeting is scheduled for March 4th

at the Fire Company regarding this event. There is no date set but Glorianne

asked the Council to think about what role the Church might want to take in this event.

Dave commented that he sensed an improvement within the Church due to the Worship Team and Vision Team

efforts as a result of the survey the members participated in last year. Dave said he appreciated all the efforts by

these 2 groups.

Dave Evelhoch offered the closing prayer.

The next Council meeting will be February 16th

at 7 p.m.

Respectfully submitted,

Jenny Harkins

HOPEFUL SUNDAY SCHOOL CLASS WELCOMES YOU!

If you do not have a Sunday school class, you are invited to join the Hopeful Sunday School class in TFC at 9 AM each Sunday. Lots of interaction, laughter, and lively discussions are enjoyed in the Bible-based lessons. Come for spiritual nourishment as well as physical; the coffee pot is always ready (or tea or hot chocolate). Now is a perfect time to join us! We will be starting a new book in February! No Bible? No problem! We have plenty available for your use in the class. To find the classroom, walk in the TFC entrance closer to

the church building, go up the steps, and enter the first room on your right. Please join us! We welcome new class members!

USING TFC OR PAVILION? It is important that your request to use TFC or the pavilion is turned in ASAP in writing.

This applies to EACH & EVERY CHURCH GROUP

AND for PERSONAL RENTALS.

Also, if your church group wants to use TFC paper goods, please make your needs known in advance.

Written requests for reservations should be turned in to the church office or to

Dave Evelhoch as soon as possible to avoid scheduling conflicts & also to arrange for HVAC needs.

Any church group expecting to use TFC paper goods should let Dave know in plenty of time. Let him know exactly what is needed and then please make a contribution to the Building Fund for such goods.

Do NOT just assume that the facilities will be available OR that the supplies

will just be on hand. <><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><>

KUDOS, COMMENTS, COMPLAINTS, SUGGESTIONS, QUESTIONS?

Care enough to share! Your opinions are important! Talk to a member of the Vision Team, Council chair, Worship chair, Stewardship & Finance chair, SPRC chair, or another church group representative. Ideas are needed on ways to increase funding for the general fund. If you have suggestions, talk to Scott Gleim or put your ideas in writing and place them in his mailbox. If you do not know where to turn for an answer, there is a suggestion box in the vestibule. Use it! <><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><>

The theme for March’s worship

services will be A Journey to Jesus.
