We have so much going on – concerts, Green Up Day, Gardening & Herb classes, Art & Technology at the Library, golf tournaments, 5K runs and summer camp. If you are bored and home alone – you are doing something wrong!! Come join any of the many activities, events or committees that NEED YOU!!! There are so many wonderful people, committees, clubs, and groups that work so hard at making things happen in this town – including our town government – the tireless select board & our town office staff – that I just want to urge, encourage, STRONGLY SUGGEST, beg you all to pick one thing – one little tiny thing that you can do to help not only your community but all of those that work so hard. We need help. We need you. Grab a bag for Green Up Day, fill it up and bring it to the dump or bring it to the South Londonderry Fire Dept for a free burger or hot dog for your efforts. Looking to shed those 5 winter pounds? Join the 5 th annual 5K West River Trail Run. You like to Golf? Raise some much needed funding and support the SLFD Golf outing – or just get a foursome together and come golf at Stratton. The bridge baskets and town tubs full of beautiful plants that Mark Wright & the Rotary generously donates will be coming out soon – the watering committee is always looking for help! Perhaps you just do not have one more minute to spare. Help others you ask? You may need help more than you can give! Attend the free concert in Springfield or Bennington and just relax listening to Beethoven’s 9 th . Are your kids whining about nothing to do? LEGO CONTEST – hello?? I think that sounds fun for any age! SUMMER CAMP – get them out of your hair and off with people who make summer fun. Do the 5k walk/run and wear them OUT! Take them to the library for the Mother’s Day Workshop or computer class or bring your toddler to Neighborhood Connections for a play group. While we are out and about doing all these wonderful things – I would like to ask people to be extra careful of traffic especially while collecting garbage and be aware of the possibility of rabid animals on the prowl. And I would like to send out special healing thoughts to the victims of the rabid fox that has been caught and put down. So let’s focus on doing all these great things in our town and area and start the season off with a bang – enjoy folks! Darcy Duval

From the Select Board Chair ….. This month’s Londonderry Newsletter is very timely as I’d like to take this opportunity to remind our residents and property owners about our email distribution list. You may be receiving the link to this newsletter via our new program MailChimp, if not, I urge you to contact the town office at 802-824-3356 to sign up. There is no cost or obligation and you can opt out at any time. If you are already signed up, I urge you to encourage your neighbors and friends to do the same. This list is used to send important and useful information to our subscribers. This past weekend we had a serious situation that you may be aware of related to several attacks by a rabid fox. Using the email list we were able to send out important information concerning the issue to a large number of people with, first, a warning and later the follow up. I’d like to thank Londonderry Emergency Management Director Kevin Beattie and Treasurer Tina Lebeau for their efforts in getting the information sent out in a very timely fashion. If you haven’t seen an update on the town website, londonderryvt.org or the Front Porch Forum, here is an update on the fox incidents this past weekend. The gray fox that did one, and likely both, of the attacks did test positive for rabies. Both patients are undergoing treatment and should be fine. Here is some advice from the State Veterinarian and the local Game Warden: The chances of another rabies infected animal in the area are hard to predict but definitely possible. Be observant and watch for wild animals that may be acting unusual. Don’t hesitate to call state police or the Game Warden. Call 911 to make a report. Aggressive attacks like what happened in Londonderry are infrequent and not normally seen with a rabid animal. This one may have been a parent of a litter as young foxes have been seen nearby. If bitten by any animal, seek medical attention immediately.

Feel free to call Londonderry EMD Kevin Beattie with any questions at 802-548-8246 While I’m writing, I’d like to thank Darcy Duval for the great work she does in putting out this newsletter each month. Your work is much appreciated. We would encourage all to become involved and up to date on issues in Londonderry by attending your Select Board meetings on the first and third Mondays of each month. We are meeting in the large room at the Twitchell Building (Town Hall). If I can answer any questions please contact me.

Happy Spring, Paul Gordon

Piper Chapman & Eva Calabrese

The Flood Brook Drama Presented Oliver Twist at the Weston Playhouse Theater in April, Directed by Jennifer Repinski from the classic novel by Charles Dickens. The production was stellar and the acting Broadway worthy. It was hard to believe that this was an elementary/middle school production it was so well done. Bravo to the cast and crew!

STRATTON MOUNTAIN SOLD

Stratton Mountain resort’s parent company is being acquired by Aspen Skiing Co. and KSL Capital Partners in a $1.5 billion agreement that includes the assumption of debt obligations.

In an announcement from Intrawest Resorts Holdings Inc., CEO Thomas Marano said: “This transaction creates significant opportunity for Intrawest and delivers tremendous value to our current shareholders.” Intrawest also owns ski operations in Colorado, West Virginia and three Canadian provinces.

The Intrawest board of directors approved the agreement unanimously, according to the announcement. The acquisition is expected to close before the 2017-18 ski season, provided closing conditions that include regulatory approvals are met.

State Rep. Oliver Olsen, I-Londonderry, reacted positively to the news.

“I want to welcome Aspen Skiing Co. and KSL to Vermont. Stratton is a key component of Vermont’s tourism industry and plays a vital role in the economy of southern Vermont,” he said.

Olsen said the new ownership structure “brings new opportunities for Stratton, its employees and local businesses in the area. I look forward to learning more about future investments in Stratton, and stand ready to assist Aspen Skiing Co. and KSL as they look to enhance the value of this important economic asset.”
