Content

The development of digital technology and content sharing platforms is rapidly changing the relationship between news producers and their audiences. News is now accessible across a range of platforms and can be viewed on television, laptops and mobile phones. Social media sites allow members of the public to share news items on their own profiles, generating debate and discussion amongst their friends and followers.

For this assignment, you will produce a multiplatform news report for a single story that is presented across multiple formats and shared across content sharing sites. The story you decide to cover and the style of your news feature will be supported by primary and secondary research. You will study existing news formats, analysing their style and content, as well as researching the thoughts and ideas of your target audience through social media and online research software.

Coverage of your chosen story must be communicated through film (news feature), audio (radio news report) and a written text with images (blog post).

Task 1: Multiplatform Analysis (Unit 4: 1.1, Unit 5 2.1, Unit 7: 2.1)You must select a BBC news story that has been covered across three formats. The story must exist as a written post on the BBC News website, a video news feature on the BBC website or TV channel and a radio news feature produced for BBC Radio 1, 2 or 4. Your analysis will explore how one single story has been covered across these three formats, noting differences, similarities, advantages and disadvantages of each. You will also examine the codes and conventions of each format, commenting on content, delivery and style.

Task 2: Rules Poster (Unit 4: 1.1)You must produce a poster that outlines the rules to be abided by during the production of your news report. The poster will provide definitions for issues such as accuracy, impartiality, representation, objectivity, privacy, balance and subjectivity. Each definition should be supported by an image that shows an example of it being applied in mainstream media.

Deadline: 09/11/17

Task 3: Researching your Story (Unit 3: 1.1, 1.2, Unit 4: 2.1, Unit 5: 1.1, Unit 7: 1.1)You must conduct a body of primary and secondary research to support the development of your idea and examine your target audience. You must produce the following:
