Welcome to Unley Park Baptist today.It is great to have you with us. If you are new to

Unley Park, we appreciate that it can be daunting to walk into a new church, so as much

as we can, we want to help you feel at home here.

In the pew in front of you please find a black folder that contains a white care card for

you to complete.

There is also a "Welcome Pack"available for you that, among other things, has a special

Care Card for you to record your visit and for us to follow up any requests you make.

All Care Cards should be "posted" as you leave the church, in the locked box on the table

by the "Baptistry Door".

Just a Minute

Last Thursday night it was a balmy evening with just the hint of a gentle breeze. I

decided it was good for a walk so I set off along the walking track alongside the

Recreation Centre at Morphettville.

There is one part where it bends around and there is very little light. Just as I

approached the bend I could hear some mens voices. I didnt think anything of it until I

had taken a few more steps and then I saw a man in a bush and he said something

like..

Ill jump out from here and grab him from behind.

It was then that I saw the other two hooded men on the other side of the path!

One of them had something in his hand!

In a split second I had to make some quick decisions.Did I just hear what I thought I heard? Were they referring to me?

Was I in danger? Could anything bad happen on such a beautiful night?

Should I turn around and run?

They were all good questions. In fact I had so many questions running through my head I

found myself still thinking about them as I found myself surrounded by these 3 men!

Funny what you do in those moments. I looked at them and said,

How are you boys?To be honest, I wasnt the slightest bit interested in how they were!

Then, one of them said something that was so unexpected and completely changed

everything. He said,

Sorry mate, were doing some filming for a play!

It was then that I noticed he had a video camera in his hand.

I responded like a cool dude by saying,No drama. Have a good one!

As I walked off I thought to myself.

What do you mean, no drama. In that moment you thought you were going to get

mugged or even worse!

How could I be so terrified and so brave in the space of 10 seconds?

We are complex people arent we?

Strong and weak; Courageous and fearful; Believers and doubters

Like Peter we feel sometimes we can walk on water and then the first big wave comes

along and we sink!

As a father has compassion on his children, so the Lord has compassion on those that

fear him; for he knows how we are formed, he remembers that we are dust [Psalm

103:13-14]

When I am bold, He knows and He remembers

When I am frightened, He knows and He remembers

Orphanage Volunteer Urgently Needed

You might remember Sam Schmidt spoke at UPBC Sunday 1st December last year about

her work at the Baan Jai Dee orphanage in North Thailand.

This week we received the following urgent message for prayer and advertising a special

need.

Our current volunteer Sandie, needs to return to Australia urgently due to a family

medical emergency.

We would like to hear from anyone who feels they are able to volunteer at Baan Jai Dee,

for a period of time, from February onward.

Wednesday Night Small Group Bible Study

from PIONEERS who have been working in Southern Sudan will be speaking. Please join

us for an informal, interactive but challenging evening. We are looking forward to others

outside our fellowship sharing with us in this meeting.

We will be meeting in the church lounge and will conclude our time with supper.

Lets fill the Westcare basket

Among the many calls for support that you have had even in the first month of 2014

may I remind you that WESTCARE is in desperate need of food to support the less

fortunate.

Suggestions Use the shopping trolley to be found in the breezeway by the kitchen to place

your provisions.

Encourage Barry Booth who takes your donations of food to WESTCARE each

week.

Add an item or two each week to you shopping list. Make this a habit -

ongoing!

What to buy

Tinned foods, (with a pull back top where possible) like tuna, -------Pasta sauce,

-------meals in a tin, -------tinned fruit & vegetables,-------packs of dry pasta--------

-- Since bread doesn't keep SAO biscuits or similar dry biscuits are wonderful----

---- Breakfast cereals like various sizes of Weet-Bix,------- UHT milk are also

needed.

Please don't include open, out of date or fresh products.

Lets go for it and fill the trolley each week. Barry would be really encouraged

to take more food to WESTCARE.

City Bible Forum

A night in a brewery; really, this night sells itself. So, be quick to register for the first

event for 2014, 'God, Proof that God Loves Us'.

Thank you for praying for our Valentines Party last week. It

was a really special time with the children (ranging in age

from 4 to 17). All the activities were a hit and our short

termer, Blair, made an amazing heart shaped cake that

wowed everyone! The staff and kids from the orphanage

were very grateful and positive and are keen to do it again

soon. Today, Sarah and our co-worker David will be

volunteering at the orphanage for the afternoon. Please

pray for continued opportunities to spend time with

these kids and demonstrate Gods love in practical ways.

This week, Rachel will be performing the role of Beth in

the school musical Little Women. There will be four

performances all together. Pray that all the cast and crewwill stay healthy and enjoy the exciting culmination of

their many rehearsals!

Help needed for refugee boys next door

The boys are learning to drive and need some volunteers to go out driving with them.

They need to log a certain number of hours of driving to obtain their Pplates.

If you have an hour or two every so often and think you could help please contact the

church office.
