    Project BeneftsThis Project provides a two-old benet and purpose:

    Reduces the level o uture maintenance

    activities; and,

    Restores the ultimate pipeline capacity o Line 6B

    to meet the increased demand or additionalpipeline transportation capacity driven largely

    by current and planned renery upgrades and

    expansions in Michigan, Ohio and eastern Canada.

    Installing new acilities will bring added property

    tax revenues to Indiana and Michigan communities

    as well as provide an infux o sales taxes rom

    locally purchased materials and equipment. It also

    will increase employment with more than 1,000

    temporary and permanent jobs created, including

    hundreds o skilled and labor workers during peak

    construction. Many workers will be drawn rom

    the local workorce. And, by reducing the level o

    uture maintenance activities that would otherwise

    be required to maintain sae operations, there

    will be ewer disruptions to landowners and local

    communities over the long-term.

    This Project also is designed to meet current and

    uture pipeline transportation needs. Line 6B

    is an integral part o the regions critical energyinrastructure, providing a secure and reliable supply

    o crude oil to a number o regional reneries, which

    in turn supply the publics need or rened petroleum

    products, such as gasoline, diesel and asphalt.

    Regulatory Oversight and PermittingComprehensive national standards, ederal

    laws and regulations have been developed over

    decades that prescribe the design, construction,

    operation and maintenance o liquid petroleumpipelines. The agency exclusively responsible or

    regulating interstate crude oil pipeline saety is

    the U.S. Department o Transportation Pipeline

    and Hazardous Materials Saety Administration, as

    designated by the Pipeline Saety Act.

    For this Project, a variety o both local and

    environmental permits are required, depending on

    jurisdiction. Permitting and oversight also involves

    ederal and state agencies, such as the Army

    Corps o Engineers, the Michigan Department o

    Environmental Quality, the Michigan Department

    Natural Resources and the Indiana Department oEnvironmental Management, among others.

    Maintaining Sae, Reliable PipelinesThis Project is included in Enbridges pipeline

    integrity maintenance program that is part o the

    companys commitment to protect the public and

    environment. Enbridge builds saety into every

    step o pipeline construction and operations. Many

    preventative measures are taken to promote the

    sae, reliable operation o Enbridge pipelines andrelated acilities, including:

    Using high-quality steel and anti-corrosion coatings

    when constructing our pipelines;

    Installing cathodic protection (a low-level electrical

    charge) to inhibit corrosion;

    Hydrostatic-pressure testing new and existing pipelines;

    Periodically inspecting the inside o the pipeline with

    sophisticated tools called smart pigs;

    Conducting preventive maintenance and inspection;

    24-hour pipeline monitoring rom Enbridges control cent

    which has remote shut-down capabilities and monitors

    pressures and conditions during pipeline operation.

    Completing regular ground and aerial inspection o the

    right-o-way; and,

    Providing public awareness and saety inormation to

    emergency responders, local public ofcials, excavators

    and those who live and work along Enbridge pipelines.

    In the unlikely event o a pipeline emergency,

    please call the Enbridge emergency number

    immediately: 1-800-858-5253.
