PRAYERS FOR OUR RELATIVES & FRIENDS SERVING IN THE MILITARY
WE NEED YOUR HELP! IT IS CONCERNING THE CATHOLIC APPEAL. In years past, every parish that exceeded their assessment and financial goals received a refund check back to the Parish. Both of our Parishes have received refunds consistently for many years. A few year ago the rules changed. The Archdiocese’s new rule is that in order to receive any refund money back to the Parish, the Parish must ex-ceed the “In-Pew” assessment. What does that mean? The Envelopes found in your pew need to be filled out by every family and returned this week. I am asking that every family - especially those that HAVE ALREADY GIVEN to the Catholic Appeal - to take one of the Envelopes and fill in the highlighted sections by writing your Name, Parish, and Town, and check off “I have already given to the Catholic Appeal this year” and return it as soon as possible. For those giving for the first time, please fill out the entire envelope including your address and contact information. If we all do this together, both Parishes will receive refund checks this coming year. Because of you cooperaton last year, both parishes DID receive refunds last year. THANK YOU SO MUCH! Lets do it again!

You are braver than you believe, and stronger than you seem, and smarter than you think. Christopher Robin Almost 100 years ago AA Milne wrote the story of Winnie- the- Pooh. Maybe these last five weeks leave us wondering….can we get through this time of the Coronavirus ………. The Disciples on road to Emmaus maybe wondering if they were going to get through their life-altering experience. This Jesus, the man they figured out to be the Messiah, he had healed people , he had fed crowds with little food, he said love was the most important commandment….he had been put to death on a cross….and three days later the women came and told them of the empty tomb and angels announcing he had risen. Some had first-hand encounters of the Risen Jesus. They were still dealing with grief, and so they felt overwhelmed and left the safety of being with the others. The gospel starts with them looking downcast ‘the things that had taken place there in these days.’ As they go along, Jesus helps their understanding and of course reveals himself ultimately in the breaking of the bread. Each and everyday Mass is celebrated in our collaborative and we pray for healing, strength, thank God for the blessing of all the first responders, and medical people. We pray for the parents and guardians who are caring for and providing education to the children in their homes. We pray for the unemployed, and for those in government handling the response to this pandemic on a federal, state, and local city and town basis. Above all these, we pray for those in their own homes and hospital than have the Corona 19 virus and for the souls of those who have died, for their loved ones and extended families. We can’t gather for Mass and receive Jesus in the Eucharist, but we can unite ourselves with Christ by prayer. The bible tells the story of those who ask for help from the Lord when they feel like cowards, feel they are weak, and feel they are dumb. Go back to what Christopher Robin said the quote at the beginning of this message. You are braver than you believe, you are stronger than you seem, and you are smarter than you think. The disciples on the road to Emmaus realized this and even though it was night they travelled the dangerous path back to the others to announce they had experienced the risen Jesus. They came back brave, strong, and smart. We must pray for the same each and every day during this time of seclusion. So many call, or write, or text that it is their faith that is getting them through this situation. When people ask, how can they get through this time, I remind them the bible is full of underdog stories (definition of underdog; a competitor thought to have little chance of
winning a fight or contest). Faith will see us through this time, Christ joins us on our jour-ney, like he did with the disciples on the road to Emmaus. May God continue to Bless each one of us. Thank you so much again to all those supporting the parish by prayer and the many who are able to drop off envelopes or participate in our online giving program.

There are many questions about when Mass and other Sacraments will resume being celebrated in our Churches. The Commonwealth of Massachusetts has a team in place that will decide when the current restrictions will be lifted then the Archdiocesan Covid team will determine when and how to best resume church activities. The State has already announced that some type of social distancing will be in place even as activities resume, which will affect the amount of people we can have in Church. We will have to follow the State guidelines ensuring social distancing rules compliance. These guidelines will affect Sunday Mass attendance, and we are informing of you of this beforehand so we can all bring the gift of patience to Church. Baptisms, Weddings and Funerals (funeral home operations have also been drastically affected by this pandemic) will also be adhering to these guidelines. As announcements are declared by the State, the Archdiocese will give us guidelines. For parents of children yet to be baptized, you may trace the sign of the cross on your child’s forehead each morning and evening and pray for God to protect them. You will also be doing this same ritual action when we are able to celebrate baptism for your bundle of joy. For those needing to reschedule Weddings we do not have a date for reopening the Church, just as many restaurants and function halls do not know what affect state restrictions may have on their establishments. For those families grieving the loss of a loved one – we have most likely done a graveside burial which is all that is allowed for this time, when Masses begin to be celebrated again you may wish to have a Mass said for your ones and as I explain at our graveside services, we can certainly do those Masses. For parents of First Communicants, I have a recommendation if possible. As you know, your children grow very fast. You may want to consider returning First Communion outfits at this time and purchasing one closer to when we announce First Communions are being held if you wish. Traditionally, children wear white for First Communion, however we are in most unusual times, any suitable clothing for First Communions will be fine this year. First Communion Masses cannot be rescheduled until we have a date from the Archdiocese when we can resume Mass and what restrictions will be in place. I have spoken with both DRE’s and told them that when we set up dates they will be held on Saturday Mornings. If we try celebrating First Communions during the summer, I am aware many may not want to participate – I anticipate having first Communions through the Fall as well. Again, we will not know until we resume operations when our First Communions will be – as we always say we work with families. Our Saint Bridget’s School First Communions will not be held till September. In a first century book called the Didache and attributed to the Apostles;
“For if you are able to bear the entire yoke of the Lord, you will be perfect;
but if you are not able, then at least do what you can. “
We may not be perfect but I pray we be brave, be strong, and be smart. May God
continue to Bless our Collaborative and all those dealing with Covid 19
