Up to this point, man was without hope (Eph. 2:12)

Because of this week man has REAL HOPE with a REAL PLAN with REAL RESULTS!

Called “Passion week” Passion from Latin word

meaning suffering. Such was descriptive of what Jesus endured.

the passion He and His disciples exhibited during this week.

the Bible, but rather is part of the Catholic and denominational season culminating in “Easter” another unbiblical word.

observances are without authority, the events they memorialize ARE worthy of examination and application in our lives. THIS IS OUR purpose in this study!

The triumphal entry into Jerusalem

disciples to retrieve a donkey and colt.Mark 11:3 – they would return it when done

• Was this planned or divine intervention?

• Jesus is seated on the colt and crowds lined the way into Jerusalem. As He passed by they cast down their coats and palm branches (Jn. 12:13) before Him.

• As He approached they chanted, “Hosanna (“save, I Pray”) to the Son of David! Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord! Hosanna in the highest!” (Matt. 21:9, cf. Psa. 118:26)

• The event was prophesied in Zech. 9:9). He entered with fanfare, but not as worldly nobles.

• Jesus was declared King!• On this occasion He was at the

height of His popularity!• Misunderstood His kingdom – Jn. 18:36, Luke 17:21

• But within days, the crowds would turn against Him.

In all this, Jesus is in control!

• Will we make Him King in our lives?

• He IS King – 1 Tim. 1:17, Rev. 19:16, Matt. 21:5

• Will we publicly proclaim Him as our king?

• Is He STILL passionately our king? Cf. Rev. 2:4, John 6:66, Matt. 13:20-21

Cleansing the temple

•Matt. 19:12-13• Jesus goes to the temple and

observes the selling of animals and merchandizing.

• He proceeds to overturn the money tables and drives out the animals

•Matt. 19:12-13, He says, “It is written, ‘My house shall be called a house of prayer’ but you have made it a ‘den of thieves’”cf. Isaiah 56:7, Jer. 7:11

• This was 2nd time He did this – John 2:13-22

wrong! Neh. 13:15-22• Jesus had a following now• Did they know, deep down, He

was right?•Mark 11:18 – they sought to

destroy Him

Again, in all this Jesus is in control!

• A passion to honor God!• Under Old Law, provisions

were to be made Deut. 14:24-26

• They had turned such into a business that overshadowed the purpose

• Do we see such today?• Some exploit the gospel for profit

(i.e. Joel Osteen)• Some manipulate scripture for

personal gain – e.g. Gal. 6:10, Titus 1:11, 1 Tim. 6:5Consider Gal. 5:13

God is insulted, blasphemed by such

conduct!
