Nicole & Anise’s Tidbits!

Fitness in the Fall Fitness Classes taught by instructor Judy Everett will resume Monday, October 21st, and will take place every Monday and Wednesday morning in the Fitness Room at 10:15am. The class incorporates stretching, weight train-ing, core strength training, and aerobic exercise to help you feel rejuvenated and ready to start your day! Sit-tercize, Texercise, and Yoga class will continue in the Fitness Room on the usual dates and times. Join us for any of our exercise classes this Fall! Our wonderful in-structors make exercising fun!

Flu Shots Our annual flu shot clinic will be held on Friday, Octo-ber 4th from 8:15am to 10:15am in a Clubhouse Suite. High-dose flu shots are $65 without insurance or Medi-care Part B. Bring your Medicare card and any medical insurance cards that you may have. The pneumonia and shingle shot will also be available. Please be sure to swing by our Concierge Desk to fill out the insurance form right after signing up.

Come benefit from this seated exercise that most anyone can perform. It’s a great way to start your day. Meet in the IV Fitness Room at 10:00am.

Wednesdays Duplicate Bridge

Join your friends every Wednesday at 12:15pm for a game of duplicate bridge. Playing is for the joy of camaraderie and to challenge the brain. If you have any ques-tions, please contact the concierge and you will be directed to the fun!

Fridays Tai Chi

A self-paced class that teaches gentle exer-cise & stretching. Each posture flows into the next without pause, ensuring the body is in constant motion. Every Friday in the IH-AS at 9:15am.

Chair Yoga Join instructor Leticia Cruz at 11:00am in the IV Fitness Room for this adapted yoga class that focuses on deep breathing tech-niques and simple stretches. This class also relieves chronic pain and increases lung capacity.

Prescription pickup is available to IV Members on Wednesdays. Drop off your Rx refill request at the IV Concierge Desk with form of payment. Sam, please bring all information including a copy of your military ID by 3:00pm on Tuesday for Wednesday pickup. RX must be set up at Ft. Sam.

Health and Wellness Corner! An active retirement is the best!

8 Things You Should NEVER Put Down Your Garbage Disposal 1. Bones: They'll just keep spinning around and around with the blades. 2. Celery: The fibrous strings tend to tangle around our disposal's blades. 3. Coffee grounds: Coffee grounds are deceptive. They appear to go down easy, but really they're going to pile up and cause a sludgy, sediment-like mess in your drain.

4. Egg shells: There's a bit of argument on this one. Some people say they're totally safe for the disposal and actually help to sharpen your disposal's blades; while others believe the shells' membrane lining can stick to the sides of the disposal and wrap around the shredder, wreaking lots of havoc.

5. Fruit pits: Have you ever tried to cut through a peach pit or avocado seed? Yeah, that's just not going to happen. 6. Grease: Grease and oil might not even make it into the disposal and will likely clog up your pipes instead. 7. Pasta: Spaghetti, ziti, linguine, fusilli—whatever you like you sauce up always expands when exposed to water, even after you've fully cooked it. So whether you have a garbage dispos-al or not, you shouldn't dump it down the drain, where it'll swell and either fill the disposal trap or cause even bigger problems 8. Potato peels: These suckers can cause a soupy mess in your disposal down the road—even if you think you can get away with dumping them down the drain from time to time.
