The minutes of the 13th sept’16 meeting was duly confirmed. President welcomed • DG Rtn Natarajan Nagoji who is the Guest of Honour for today’s Awards function • RCMs Educator Extraordinaire Award recipients Dr Mrs YG Rajalakshmi Parthasarathy, pioneer in the field of education & Ms Arulselvi Chandrasekaran, taking the Montessori system to the under privileged • Teachers/students from Padma Seshadri and Sri Ram Charan Trust • Visiting Rotarians/media persons/spouses President then extended birthday/ wedding anniversary wishes to the respective Rotarians/spouses who celebrate that week . Rtn Hemant Chordia reported on the full club fellowship hosted by our Rtn M Balasubramanian at his AVM Rajeswari Mandapam. All were greeted, hosted, and treated with great fun fare, with an awesome menu. Cheers to the team for the meticulous planning. Altogether the afternoon was great Rotary family get together. President added that sunshine to the tune of Rs 18500 was collected from those who were not wearing the south Indian traditional attire (Rs 15,000 to RCMBTS & Rs 3500 to RCM). Rtn Ashok Thakkar said that its time for our first fund raiser of the year Dandiya nite which is on the 30th sept’16 at the Ball room Hyatt at 7.30 pm. Requested members to participate and spend the evening for the Rotary cause. President appealed members to come forward in sponsoring banners Rs 10,000 and buy tickets and make the event a resounding success. Rtn Ashok Banerjee mentioned that we had an outstanding speaker recently Dr Nandita Shah, who spoke on healing food and how to reverse diseases by eating the right food. This well known doctor has agreed to conduct two sessions on 1st Oct’16 exclusively for RCM from 10.30 am at McNicholas Road opposite Ega Theatre (free talk followed by a demo ).

Secy Rtn Dr R Chandrasekhar announced that the next weekly meeting is on 27th Sept’16, when the AGM of RCMCT & RCMBTS & EGM of RCM will be held. This will be a closed door meeting.

Educator Extraordinaire Award 2016-17 presented to a) Dr Smt YG Rajalakshmi

Parthasarthy, founder, Dean, Director, Padma Seshadri Bala Bhavan Group of Schools, Chennai.

b) Ms. Arulselvi Chandrasekaran, Montessori Educator, Balwadi, Sri Ram Charan Trust, ChennaiPresident handedover the

proceedings to PE & Awards Chair Rtn PN Mohan, who conducted the RCMs Educator Extraordinaire Award function. He said that every year this award is given to a extraordinary teacher, who has contributed in the field of education to the society. This year RCM has decided to give this award to two distinguished teachers Dr Mrs YG Rajalakshmi Parthasarathy & Ms Arulselvi Chandrasekaran.

PE Rtn PN Mohan read out the Citation of the awardee Dr Mrs YG Rajalakshmi Parthasarathy. The RCM recognizes Smt YGP’s lifelong commitment to her vision & mission. RCM also felicitates her path-breaking endeavours in education, arts & culture as well as social service. RCM congratulates & felicitates Smt. YGP, hailing her as Educator Extraordinaire.

The Citation & a specially made plaque were presented by DG Nagoji along with President Rtn Dr Arul to Dr Mrs YG Rajalakshmi Parthasarathy amidst applause.

The awardee gave her acceptance speech and thanked RCM for honoring her with this award. She dedicated the

award to the school teachers/ students.Rtn Sandhya Sridhar read out

the Citation of the other awardee Ms Arulselvi Chandrasekaran. RCM felicitates and recognizes her unique and exemplary work in making Montessori meaningful and effective in a balwadi and using the Montessori medium to encourage parents/children to use their minds freely & independently. By recognizing Ms Arulselvi as Educator Extraordinaire, the RCM hopes that many more would be inspired and would engage with the underprivileged

DG Nagoji said that it is a privilege to honour the two great doyens in the education field and in turn the Rotary

world is honoured. DG was in full praise of the awardees tremendous commitment and contribution and being an inspiration to all. DG specially mentioned about the Montessori methodology and appreciated Ms Arulselvi endeavours.

President presented a memento to DG Nagoji on behalf of RCM.

PE Rtn PN Mohan thanked all making this award function a great success by their presence.

The meeting was then adjourned.

When Balu Sir invites you for a wedding lunch, You can be sure that the menu will pack quite a punch! When Anil Srinivasan plays his melodies, It soothes us through his musical remedy! When Mohan Raman speaks about History, Be prepared to hear the unraveling of many a mystery! Honouring him on his 25 years of contribution to cinema, Was also on the menu for that day’s Avm extravaganza The combination was heady and full of fun, All dressed in South Indian or you face the gun! Two birthdays were celebrated, Though none were related! Ashok Thakkar turned Fifty Four, That Sunday he did not step offshore! Chandru our Secretary cut the cake, Someone collect the sunshine, for heaven’s sake! The adjoining fellowship bar was a hit, Made the Sunday, a blast, on the face of it! People were greeted, hosted, seated with fanfare, The awesome menu had many of us in despair! Of what to eat, and how to stuff, This Sapaad had good ingredients more than enough! The venue was the royal AVM Rajeshwari Mandapam, It was the turn of President Arul and Uma to become united as one! His tight hug and a passionate kiss, Was something you surely couldn’t miss! Three cheers to the Team’s meticulous planning, Had us all cheering and clapping!

The Rotary Foundation Centennial Cycle Rally –Kashmir to Kanyakumari Swachh Bharat

Tour de Rotary is being conducted by Rotary Club of Madras Midtown, RI Dist. 3230, to promote the 100 years of good work done by the Rotary Foundation and to raise Funds for its various Humanitarian Service projects including that of Clean and Green India projects.

22 cyclist will cover this 4500 Kms Cycle Rally, in 33 days, with 27 Flag Offs, startng from Jammu, on 7th of Nov ’16, will travel through Delhi, Jaipur, Gandhinagar, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai, Thiruvananthapuram to reach Kanyakumari on the 9th Dec ’16.

Govt. of India – Ministry of Urban Development along with the en-route Local Urban Bodies are supporting this event, for creating awareness on Swachh Bharat. The en-route Rotary Districts and its various Rotary Clubs are participating and supporting this rally.
