A tax status for Portuguese or foreign citizens - who must first have a legal residence and were not considered residents in Portugal in the last five years - which meet one of the following conditions:
a) Stay more than 183 days, consecutive or intercalated, in any period of 12 months, beginning or ending in the year in question; or
b) Having stayed less time, but have, on any day of the 12-month period, of a housing in conditions which imply their intention to maintain and occupy it as their habitual residence.

Exemption on income obtained abroad resulting from dependent work, self-employment, capital, real estate income and real estate surplus, intellectual or industrial property; and
Taxation of income obtained in Portugal at reduced rates in case of activities with high added value (e.g. 20% for dependent work and self-employment income and 28% for capital and real estate income).
