Time to exchangeHelp to build your community one hour at a time

Fauldhouse and Breich Valley Timebank

Our Fauldhouse and Breich Valley Timebank has had a very productive Spring time. There have been many new Timebank members and they have been busily exchanging. F&BV Timebank also held a number of free ‘Spring Time Fun’ events in March which were very successful.

‘Time for Fun’ was a free Friday afternoon of fun for families in The Hub. The event included storytelling sessions by Zoo-Ed staff helped by their lovely animals. There were amazing magic performances by Magic Mac and beautiful facepainting by Catrina too. Thanks to everyone who helped to make the day possible and to all those who came along, including Sheephouse Nursery, for making it a great day.‘Time for Adventures’ was another family friendly Friday afternoon, this time outdoors in the forest, accompanied by the Forestry Commission Rangers.A fundraising coffee morning ‘Time to Bake’ was also held on Thursday 30 March run by the Take a Break Craft Group. The group had knitted and crocheted lovely Easter baskets and chicks and had made orange and lemon marmalade, all of which they sold. There was also a raffle, coffee, tea and baking available. We asked people to bake and donate to the morning. The event raised over £200 towards the Fauldhouse Christmas tree 2017.

Fauldhouse faces

A group of Fauldhouse youngsters pulled together a fundraising disco and social evening in the local Cricket Club. And as a result they managed to raise £1,106 on behalf of the Teenage Cancer Trust. Pictured are organisers Nicholas Potter, Michael Brownlee, Hayley Potter and Neil Frame. Plus a big thanks to Lynn, Adam, Yvonne, Anna and all parents for their help and support and The Cricket Social Club for the use of their premises.

One of FCDT’s Septemberfest concerts raised £15,000 in aid of Brain Tumour Charity.

Frankie Owens from Blackburn was instrumental in the creation of St John the Baptist Over 50’s Friendship Club and was the inaugural President of the group which started up in 1998. Recently, Frankie was made a life-long member, this being made official by presenting him with a framed Certificate with thanks and best wishes from Frank Russell, Chairperson.

Local singer, Garry Greig, X Factor finalist, recently entertained a capacity audience in Fauldhouse Miners Social Club. Garry was accompanied by the Scottish Philharmonia Orchestra with support from Soul Sensation and Jon Mancini.

Funds raised for oncology wardNeil Findlay MSP, his wife Fiona and daughter Chloe visited the oncology ward at St John’s to hand over a cheque for £3,400.

The money was raised by Fiona’s friends and colleagues, Ena Whitefield and Joe Lynch, who organised an event at Bathgate Golf Club that paid tribute to Fiona for her fortitude in battling breast cancer and also to raise money for the oncology department as a way of thanking

them for the wonderful and caring treatment received by Fiona during her illness. Neil and Fiona thank everyone for their support that evening and all the way through this traumatic time.

Jamie Meek organised this show and other fundraising events in memory of his mother Marie. Over the past nine years the Callaghan family and friends have raised £105,000 in aid of cancer charities and take this opportunity to thank all entertainers and individuals who have helped raise this fantastic amount of money for the benefit of people less fortunate than themselves.

Support a mining tribute in Fauldhouse

Successful walk for Eastfield fundsFCDT’s Development Worker, Paul Renwick recently completed a 26 mile walk to raise funds for the Eastfield Centre.

The walk from Edinburgh to Fauldhouse in December was completed in a fantastic 8 hours and 2 minutes and raised £867. Speaking after the walk, Paul said: “I want to thank everyone who supported me and donated money towards the walk. The total that was raised far exceeded my expectations.” The money will be used to provide equipment and carry

out essential repairs to the Eastfield Centre, which will be used by a large number of community groups. FCDT are still in discussion with West Lothian Council. It is hoped that FCDT will eventually take the facility into community ownership.

Fauldhouse Community Development Trust is currently investigating the possibility of creating a tribute to the mining community in the Village Green.

Mining played an important part in the history of Fauldhouse. The Trust, with support from the Fauldhouse Regeneration Group, is keen to see that tradition remembered and celebrated. A small group has been set-up by FCDT Development Worker, Paul Renwick and FCDT Board Member, Dave Huddlestone to oversee the project and it is hoped that a funding application can be submitted in the next couple of months to help to pay for a tribute and information boards in the Village Green. As part of this project Paul and David invited the National Mining Museum to work with the Primary 5 and 6 classes at St John’s Primary School and Falla Hill Primary School to

encourage the children to find out more about mining in this area and to help with the design of the tribute. To make this mining tribute a reality, FCDT need the community’s support. If you support our idea for a mining tribute, please sign our petition (see page opposite). The petition is also available at The Hub, 10 Main Street, Fauldhouse, EH47 9HX. There is also a suggestion box where you can leave your ideas for what you would like to see as part of the tribute.
