    Presidents Report from Kristin Ballard

At this weeks meeting we welcomed back Tom Busby who attended RYLA in January thisyear and has been living in Melbourne since then. Tom came across at the time of interview(before RYLA) as someone who had his life well focussed already. What was very apparent

from his talk last Wednesday was that he found the RYLA experience very enlightening andworthwhile. So glad Rotarys programs add experiences to those that attend them. Natalie, who was President then, presented Tom with a certificate and a badge.

Roni has just received notification that the Volunteer Grants 2013 that she applied for onbehalf of the Club in April this year has been successfulwell done.

The Charter Night for the Interact Club of Queanbeyan High School Student RepresentativeCouncil is scheduled for Monday 26 August 2013 at 5pm at the School Hall it will bewonderful to see this finally happenplease put the date in your diaries.

Tim and Trent are assisting with the selection of students in the 4 Way Test Speechcompetition at Queanbeyan High School who will then go on to compete against otherschools the final students selected from the whole District 9710 then appear at theConference in October.

The next RYPEN seminar for 13-15 year olds is scheduled for 13-15 September so pleasethink about suitable candidates it is to our advantage to have our application/s in by 31August.

Today we are attending the presentation for the grant of the 100 Community HeroesCampaign at Jerrabomberra Village Shopping Centrethis will really help our QueanbeyanRotary Clubs in completing the work at the Renal Unit in Queanbeyan.

    The Queanbeyan Age July 23, 2013, 11:23 a.m.http://www.queanbeyanage.com.au/story/1655791/community-bank-gives-back/?cs=

Community Bank gives backSIX Queanbeyan community groups have won $1,000 grants this week in the local Bendigo Community Bank'100 Community Heroes Campaign'.

The '100 Heroes' campaign is a special initiative in honour of the four local branches' 10th Anniversary andCanberra's Centenary.

Queanbeyan and ACT residents were invited to nominate their favourite community group, with a total prizepool of $100,000 available for the 100 organisations.Judging has now been completed and the successfulQueanbeyan nominees are:

-Jerrabomberra P&C Associationto fund a new TV with WiFi capability so teachers are able to accessteaching resources via the internet when conducting classes.

-Karabar High School Marching Bandto provide new uniforms, instruments and assist with performanceexpenses.

-Queanbeyan Community Radioto support the 'live' outside broadcast of the Tuggeranong Carols in the Parkto share the Christmas spirit with those who are isolated or unable to attend.

-Queanbeyan Reading Treeto purchase books and pillows to help increase the amount of time parents spendreading to their babies and young children before they go to school.

-Rotary Club of Queanbeyanto support a "backyard blitz" at the Queanbeyan Renal Unit.

-St Benedict'sto help fund a safe, warm place for homeless individuals to sleep.

"The campaign has been a great success and we are delighted to be able to provide support to so many diverseand worthy organisations," Community Bank chair, Jayson Hinder, said.

"It's been particularly inspiring to see the level of community engagement in the campaign with over 240nominations received from across the region.

The number and calibre of the nominations made it extremely difficult for our judging panel to select the final100."The grants will be presented to the Queanbeyan winners by the 'Community Heroes'-the people who

nominated them-at a special event presided over by Dr Mike Kelly AM MP on 31 July at the JerrabomberraCommunity Bank branch.

Community Bank branches are locally owned and operated companies which function as franchises of Bendigoand Adelaide Bank.

A core tenet of a Community Bank-and a key differential with other banks-is to return up to 80% of profits to thelocal community in the form of community contributions and sponsorships.

In 10 years, the Calwell, Curtin, Jerrabomberra, and Wanniassa Community Bank branches have returned over$1 million.
