philosophy behind the OYO communication system

• is to provide a simple transliteration system

• for basic communication

• to enable transfer of meaningrather than linguistic perfection (in grammar)

• by empowering all stakeholders about choices, consent, daily activities, sharing information in care environment

• provide pictures, English word, foreign word and two-way pronunciation

• presented in a group they belong to groups such as: clinical procedures, medication , daily activities, time, food, dentist, feelings, civilities, hobbies, pain, professionals, family, bodily functions, body parts, directions, daily things, clothing, health aids, transport, danger, health problems, etc

• no previous knowledge of foreign languages required

why pictures ?what we hear is not necessarily what we “see”

we “think” in pictures NOT in spoken language

when we hear a word, we “translate” that sound into a picture.

as long as we know which sounds representwhich picture,we’ll get the meaning.

pictures provide meaning, understanding, pleasure

clients and students will identify the picture with its meaning in one glance: it enhances the learning and remembering process.
