The Journal of Physical Security http://jps.anl.gov The Journal of Physical Security (JPS) The Journal of Physical Security is a scholarly, peer-reviewed Internet journal devoted to Research, Development, Modeling, Analysis, & Testing for Physical Security. Submissions are welcome presenting the results of experimental studies or theoretical analyses concerning any aspect of physical security. The Journal is multi-disciplinary in outlook and seeks a mixture of papers from both the technical and the social sciences. Physical Security Physical security is about protecting tangible assets from harm. These assets can include (but are not limited to) people, buildings, vehicles, documents, food and drink, pharmaceuticals, consumer or industrial products, art, museum artifacts, and money. The harm to be avoided can include theft, destruction, vandalism, sabotage, espionage, or tampering. Physical security can also be about using physical means to protect intangible assets. Why a new journal? There are a number of useful trade journals that cover physical security. There are also numerous peer-review journals that focus on criminology, law enforcement, cryptography, terrorism, national security, homeland security, computer security, or security management. The field of physical security, however, has long needed a journal that can serve as a central focus, as well as a vehicle for rigorous discussion and advancement of research, development, modeling, analysis, and testing. Subject Areas The Journal welcomes papers using the scientific method or other rigorous approaches to understanding, modeling, developing, testing, or evaluating any

aspect of physical security. Topics Not of Interest The following topics are sufficiently covered by existing trade and scholarly journals and will usually not be considered for JPS: computer or Internet security (except for the physical protection of computers, peripherals, and media), cryptography (except as it relates to physical security), information security (other than the physical protection of documents and computer media), criminology (except as it relates to physical protection), or the practice of security management. The Journal also does not publish papers that are essentially sales tracts for a particular product or service, or that are anecdotal accounts (“war stories”) of past experiences or lessons learned. Viewpoint Papers Manuscripts presenting a technical or policy viewpoint are welcome as long as they address issues associated with physical security research, development, analysis, or testing. Subscriptions You can subscribe to the journal free of charge by sending your contact information, including email address to: [email protected] The subject line should be “JPS Subscription”. How to Submit a Manuscript Instructions for Authors are available at http://jps.anl.gov Authors receive 2 hardcopy versions of the journal. JPS is hosted by Argonne National Laboratory.
