Dot-GridPlanners

harness the power ofbullet journalling

We believe that a planner holds a valuable place inour daily lives and connects our innermost thoughtsto the outside world. The physical act of writingdown a goal and seeing your ideas etched on a pagekeeps you tangibly connected to that intention. Aplanner is a place to remember the present and planwhat comes next, while giving “future you” anopportunity to revisit the paths you took to getthere.

Our new Dot-Grid Planners will help you achieveyour goals in style. Inspired by Ryder Carroll’s BulletJournalling community, we’ve pulled togethersome of the best parts of a dot-grid interior, added afew features of our own (including a speciallydesigned stencil) and packaged it all inside yourfavourite Paperblanks covers, creating a one-of-a-kind journalling experience.

TurquoiseChronicles

swirls of turquoise

Let a swirl of turquoise amid gilt embellishmentinspire you to write your chronicles. This coverdesign is based on a binding originally published bySalel Binder in Paris in 1514. The tome, Chroniques,

was created at a time when books were evolvingand binders were using smaller formats that wereeasier to bind. Pasteboards replaced wood coversand gold tooling grew in popularity.

The exuberance of the Chroniques design reflectsthe sheer splendour of the Renaissance approach todecoration that influenced architecture, art and allfacets of cultural life. In the glittering, aqua green-blue of this cover you may well see the intricaciesof your own stories or the infinite possibilities of thewritten word. At minimum, we hope that TurquoiseChronicles will make you think of Paris, which hasfor centuries been a centre for art and publishingand a beacon of culture.

Still Life Burst flowers and fruit

More sumptuous and surprisingly lifelike than thefinest arrangement on your table, our journal coveris based on a painting by Jan van Huysum (1682–1749) that seems to burst off the page. A seductionof the eye and a jolt of passion for the soul, this stilllife is anything but static. Instead, colours and detailsentice.

Van Huysum is perhaps the greatest master of thatmost revered subject in the Dutch artistic canon: theflower. Dutch still-life painting represents thepinnacle of the form and nowhere is it on suchmagnificent display as in this, his Still Life with

Flowers and Fruit.

Using tightly packed blooms, abundant fruits andvegetation, the artist also conjured up piquantdetails, such as a single insect or a drop of dew tolure onlookers. He was notoriously private abouthis process and would allow no one in his workshoplest they learn the secrets of how he created andapplied his colours. Like the flowers he painted tosuch effect, his artistic process was fascinating toothers but resisted full understanding in its brazen-hued showiness.

This season we are pleased to bring Van Huysum’svibrant style to our collection as not only a journalbut a pencil case as well!

Shakespeare, Sir Thomas MoreWith five distinct sets of handwriting seen in itsrevisions, the authorship of the 1595 play Sir

Thomas More has been hotly debated. Today, it isgenerally accepted that William Shakespeare wasthe playwright involved in crafting the portionreproduced on our cover.

Verdi, CarteggioGuiseppe Verdi’s (1813–1901) instincts for finding theright material led him to create works that virtuallydefine the general public’s understanding of opera, such as Aida and Rigoletto. River Cascade alpine artistry

In a river’s sinuous progress, we can see glints of theevolution of civilisation. These journals, with theirrippling embellishment suggestive of water’smovement, come from a book originally publishedin Basel, Switzerland, where the Swiss, German andFrench borders meet. Basel is famous not just as acultural centre, but also for its location on the banksof the River Rhine.

Like the Rhine, this cover has a long and windinghistory that intersects with that of Europe. It waspublished in 1729 by Johann Rudolph and EmanuelThurneysen and was named Tossani’s Bible afterPaul Tossanus. He was a Huguenot minister fromGermany whose controversial translation ofLuther’s Bible was emblematic of the religiousupheavals to come.

Our River Cascade design is suggestive of therelentless movement of water over rock, remindingus that resistance to change in matters great andsmall must give way to the graceful acceptance ofinevitability.
