What is the Jazz age

The Jazz Age started in 1918 when a dramatic social and political change arrived.

More people started living in city's than farms. The nations wealth more then doubled

between 1920-1929

Jazz Music

Jazz was born in 1895 in New Orleans. A mixture of blues and marching band. It was

played by only African Americans and Creoles. Most couldn't read music, so they

made there own. Eventually white people got into the music and added new instruments

such as The trumpet, the trombone, the saxophone, the piano, and the clarinet.

Fashion

Jazz music was the starting point of a new era of fashion. Men's style included much

simpler slimmer suits and tuxedos, they also were fedoras as well as comfy sports wear. Women's fashion included lose fitting knee length dresses with short arms and a hip

level waste line allowing for more movement.

Impact

Jazz music propelled the women's liberation movement and helped women gain jobs in the music industry's. African Americans gained respect for the first time and

there art style was accepted through the country. It also started financial troubles that the

country would soon face, the Great Depression witch needed the Jazz Age.
