May 2013
ON APRIL 21ST WE
HAD A WORSHIP
SERVICE THAT
BROUGHT
ATTENTION TO OUR
“EARTHLY
STEWARDSHIP”.
SOME OF THE
THINGS
CONSIDERED WERE
FINDING WAYS OF
REDUCING,
REUSING AND
RECYCLING.
DID YOU KNOW IN
THE PACIFIC
OCEAN IS THE
“GREAT
GARBAGE PATCH”
THAT WOULD
COVER OUR STATE
OF TEXAS TWO
TIME!?!?!?!?!? YIKES!
MOST OF THAT IS
PLASTIC. SO, WHAT
CAN WE DO?
PERSONALLY, I
STARTED GOING TO
PLACES THAT ONLY
HAVE PAPER CUPS
INSTEAD OF
STYROFOAM AND
MY GOAL IS TO
START RECYCLING
PLASTICS WE BUY
FROM FOODS,
BEAUTY PRODUCTS
AND SO FORTH.
JUST THINK HOW
MUCH WE CAN
ACCOMPLILSH.
AS EARTHLY
STEWARDS, WHEN
WE RECYCLE. WILL
YOU JOIN ME?

April showers bring
May flowers,
This is what they say.
But if all the showers
turned to flowers,
We’d have quite a
colorful day!
There’d be bluebells and
cockleshells,
Tulips red and green,
Daffodils and Chinese
Squill,
The brightest you’ve
ever seen.
You’d see tiger lilies and
water lilies,
Carnations pink and
blue,
Forget-me-not and
small sundrop
Glistening with the dew.
We’d have fireweed and
milkweed
And many more
different flowers.
Mexican star and
shooting star,
Falling in the showers.
And if all the showers
turned to flowers
On that rainy April day,
Would all the flowers
turn to showers
In the sunny month of
May?

Happy Mother’s Day to all who mother—Aunts, Sisters, Friends, mentors, Grandmas and Mothers! Here’s our prayer for you this month. God bless each of you and thank you for loving us each and every day! Most Gracious Heavenly Father,
We thank You for our mothers
to whom You have entrusted
the care of every precious hu-
man life from its very beginning
in the womb.
You have given to woman the
capacity of participating with
You in the creation of new life.
Grant that every woman may
come to understand the full
meaning of that blessing, which
gives her an unlimited capacity
for selfless love for every child
she may be privileged to bear,
and for all Your children.
Watch over every mother who is
with child, strengthen her faith
in Your fatherly care and love
for her and for her unborn baby.
Give her courage in times of fear
or pain, understanding in times
of uncertainty and doubt, and
hope in times of trouble. Grant
her joy in the birth of her child.
To mothers You have given the
great privilege and responsibility
of being a child’s first teacher
and spiritual guide. Grant that
all mothers may worthily foster
the faith of their children,
following the example of Mary,
Elizabeth, and other holy
women who follow Christ. Help
mothers to grow daily in
knowledge and understanding of
Your Son, Our Lord Jesus
Christ, and grant them the
wisdom to impart this
knowledge faithfully to their
children, and to all who depend
upon them.
Assist all “spiritual mothers”,
those who, though they may
have no children of their own,
nevertheless selflessly care for
the children of others—of every
age and state in life. Grant that
they may know the joy of
fulfilling this motherly calling of
women, whether in teaching,
nursing, religious life, or in other
work which recognizes and
fosters the true dignity of every
human being created in Your
image and likeness.
We beseech You to send Your
Holy Spirit, the Comforter, to all
mothers who sorrow for children
that have died, are ill or
estranged from their families, or
who are in trouble or danger of
any kind. Help grieving
mothers to rely on Your
tender mercy and fatherly love
for all your children.
We ask your blessing on all
those to whom You have
entrusted motherhood. May
Your Holy Spirit constantly
inspire and strengthen them.
May they ever follow the
example of Mary, mother of Our
Lord, and imitate her fidelity,
her humility, and her self-giving
love. May all mothers receive
Your Grace abundantly in this
earthly life, and may they look
forward to eternal joy in Your
presence in the life to come.
We ask this through our Lord
and Savior, Jesus Christ, who
lives and reigns with You and
the Holy Spirit, one God, world
without end.
Amen

Central Area News/Area Assembly May 4th At
Lake Brownwood Christian Retreat
Over the past year, Central Area joined in conversations regarding the future
of Central Area and discovered both High Plains Area and Tres Rios Area were
also having these same conversation. Finances are tight, churches needed
more care, area ministry is changing and so forth. Once discovering all these
areas were struggling, a lightbulb went off and discussions moved to working
together in a relationship called “Mission West” where all three areas come
together in ministry. There will be a vote at this area assembly to adopt this
working relationship. Here are the statements being voted on:
Report from Mission West Covenant Team March 1, 2013
At each Area Assembly for Central, Hi-Plains and Res Rios Areas, we ask each
area assembly to consider and approve the following four actions:
• Affirm the coming together as Mission West to collaborate in ministry
• Affirm the guidance and directions for future development as listed in this
proposal
• Form a Common Mission board with representatives from each of the
three areas as directed by this proposal
• Empower the Common Mission Board to flesh out the details needed for
staff development and financial support of our Common Mission, bringing
their detailed proposal to each Area’s Board or Council for approval.
Since, this area is so vast (all of the panhandle, New Mexico, Liberal Kansas,
panhandle of OK as far south as Brady and East as Jacksboro/Stephenville) and
we as a church are closer to Trinity Brazos Area, there are discussion and con-
templations of our church moving to the TBA. This is not a done deal; further
discussions and discernment are still required. If our board decides to move
forward with this possible move, more information will come to the church. In
the meantime, please pray for our church and our board as we go where God
leads.

Thinking About
Money God’s Way:
Our Skills
I need to get a job. I need to show up and work. The payroll checks have my name on them, don’t they?
Of course they do. A prob-lem arises, however, when we overdo that self-reliance to the point where we for-get that God is the ultimate cause behind it all.
Deuteronomy 8:17-18 (17) He did all this so you would never say to your-self, “I have achieved this wealth with my own strength and energy.” (18) Remember the Lord your God. He is the one who gives you power to be suc-cessful, in order to fulfill the covenant he confirmed to your ancestors with an oath.

It’s hard to keep life in bal-ance, isn’t it? Work and play, spouse and kids, me and others.
Here’s where some bal-anced thought is especially needed. What is the source of my income? Isn’t it me?

Cool Recycling Idea
One of my friends is a minister of another
church and they do something fun to bring
awareness to recycling. Each year in April,
church members bring something they would
normally throw away and each item is judged
on uniqueness and various other components.
They receive points for their item, then they
take it home and over the next several months
work on that item and make it into a project
for their fall bizarre. Before being sold, each
item again is judged and awarded points.
Those points are added with the points from
spring and the person with the most points
gets a prize. Isn’t that cool and unique? I
wonder if we could do something like that at
the Parish. What do you think?

Happy Secretary”s Day!!!!
We Love You, Kim!!!
Dear Church,
Over the past month, a lot of at-
tention surrounded the issue of bullying
in our community. I personally had a
story that I shared in the paper and my
purpose of sharing that story was not an
attempt of pointing fingers, but bringing
awareness to the issue of bullying. You
all can look up all the stats regarding bullying, so I won’t bore
you with those details. However, I hope anytime we see an injus-
tice that we are willing to stand in the gap and voice our concerns.
That is where I am right now, standing in the gap not to place blame, not to call anyone out, not to become a bully
myself, but to work with and alongside all people working to make Jacksboro a safer place for our children and one
another.
Our scriptures don’t just suggest we love our neighbor as ourselves, but actually “command” us through the Great
Commandments. Part of loving our neighbor is standing with them and making sure they live the best life possible
even when there are sacrifices we must personally make. Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for
one’s friends (John 15:13).
May we love, may our voice be clear when God leads, may we have the ability of standing for those who can’t stand
for themselves and may we always offer radical care, like that of the Samaritan, to our fellow person. Thank you,
Jacksboro Parish for offering all of this and so much more.
My love and devotion,
Pastor Ana

Yes, you read correctly, Yoga coming soon to the Parish! Start-
ing June 4th on Tuesday and Thursdays at 9:00 AM, let’s fill
our fellowship hall with bendy people! Ok, maybe some of us
not so bendy at the beginning, but by summers end we will be
better than when we started! Each class will be $5.00/person,
$2.50 will go to our certified yoga instructor, Shilo Cornish,
and the rest to a ministry of the parish yet to be deter-
mined...perhaps MDO Xtreme or other children’s ministries we
