Bishop’s Visit
Bishop Klusmeyer will visit St. Mark’s on Friday, September
13. Schedule: 6:00 PM, Bishop meets with Confirmands;
7:00 PM, Service of Confirmation in the Old Church; 8:15
PM, Bishop meets with the Vestry in the Vestry Meeting
Room.
Life in Light of Loss
Lillian Kelly has organized and is hosting a service to help
those who are coping with grief and are trying to feel like
they are thriving in life again. If you are interested in coming,
the service will be at St. Mark’s on September 21 at 12:10
PM in the Main Sanctuary. If you have any questions,
contact Lillian at [email protected], or call the office.
Women’s Conference
The Women’s Conference will be held at Peterkin Camp &
Conference Center this year from September 20-22. The
deadline for registration is September 12. For more
information on how to register, see page 14 of this issue of
the Ivy Vine, or pick up a brochure in the Narthex on Sunday.
Landscaping Thanks
Thanks to Joe and Victoria Fouts who have been super
active in caring for the church grounds.
Luncheon The ECW are hosting a luncheon after the 10 AM service today. They will be serving casseroles and homemade

Sunday School Lesson - September 08
This week we have images of artistry and sacrifice, and learn more about the nature of God
and ourselves, and our relationship with God and each other. Is God a controlling master,
dispassionate, unchanging and without regard to the clay, or the "condition" of the
clay? What is the relationship between this potter and the clay? Between the God who
knows our innermost being and us in the poetry of the psalmist? Between master and slave
in Paul's letter to Philemon? Are we really supposed to hate our family, give up all our
possessions, and carry a cross? What is going on here?
For thought and discussion consider Dr. Bruce Epperly's "Sacrifice and Artistry: Human and
Divine," and Debie Thomas' "What It Will Cost You."
