Creativity and Innovation

• Students demonstrate creative thinking, construct knowledge, and develop innovative products and processes using technology.• Apply existing knowledge to generate new

ideas, products, or processes

• Create original works as a means of personal or group expression

• Use models & simulations to explore complex systems and issues

• Identify trends and forecast possibilities

Page 3: The ISTE National Educational Technology Standards (NETS S) and Performance Indicators for Students

• To help secondary school students build a sophisticated understanding of scienctific conceptions, & the science inquiry process

• Develop critical learning skills through model-based collaborative inquiry approach

CREATIVITY & INNOVATION :

Use models & simulations to explore complex systems and issues• Example of ICT Adoption in Expository Teaching

Lesson Topic ICT used and its function

Chemistry Common ion effects on the dissociation of weak acids

Power point slides containing notes, equation, and diagrams were shown. The teacher used them as a visual aid to supplement his explanation

A simulation program that could output resulting ionic concentration dynamically based on the input from the used was used. Students worked in groups to calculate resulting ionic concentrations and to check their answers using the program.

Mathematics Explore the geometric relationship and properties of tangents to a circle

Geometer SketchPad, a software that allowed users to consteuct 2D geometric figure, take measurements & compute various geometric quantities was used

Through manipulating the different parameters of a circle learners were able to explore various geometric properties and their relationships

Critical Thinking, Problem Solving, & Decision Making

• Students use critical thinking skills to plan and conduct research, manage projects, solve problems, and make informed decisions using appropriate digital tools and resources.• Identify & define authentic problems and

significant questions for investigation

• Plan & manage activities to develop a solution or complete a project

• Collect and analyze data to identify solutions and/or make informed decisions

• Use multiple processes & diverse perspectives to explore alternative solutions

Situated learning environment

• Provide authentic contexts

• Provide authentic activities

• Provide access to expert performances

• Provide multiple roles & perspectives

• Support collaborative construction of knowledge

• Promote reflection

• Promote articulation

• Provide coaching and scaffolding

• Provide for authentic assessment

• Video clips of teachers using various assessment techniques within their classroom (authentic example)

• Video clips of teachers’ comments on the strategies

• Video clips of children’s comment• Interview with expert in the field• Reflection by third year preservice

teachers• Text description of each assessment

category• Work samples from teachers and

children• An electronic notebook• Investigation

Geograph Inverstigating the relationship between pollution level & geographical location in Hong Kong

AreView a geographic information system provided a multi-lavered representation of geographical information was used

Student could make use of the huge amount of real data in the database to analyze and explore pollution levels at different locations in Hong Kong.
