One of the major symbols of Invisible Man is the briefcase the narrator carries around with him in the novel. The briefcase's purpose changes several times, and this also changes the meaning of the symbol slightly. In the beginning, the narrator obtains the briefcase at the battle royal. This grueling fight of black men versus black men, blinded and then electrocuted seems to stand as the distraction that keeps his mind away from the reality that he lives in. During the fight, he realized that the men in the arena shouldn't be fighting each other. They should instead be working together.

Later in the novel, as he prepares to leave Mary's house, he shatters a bank that is fashioned in the design of a black man that ate the coins put in his hands.

Marvel consigue escapar de el hombre invisible y se refugia en el bar de los Jolly Cricketers. El dueño y los clientes de esta lo ayudan a esconderse y seguidamente buscan la forma de acabar con el hombre invisible. Le abren la puerta y no entra nadie, pero de repente escuchan que una de las puertas secundarias se abre y el señor Marvel había empezado a gritar. Tan pronto como este grita, los clientes y el dueño de la cantina van en su auxilio. Retienen al hombre invisible unos segundos hasta que este hace que se dobleguen todos. Coge una teja y la tira, por lo que el hombre alto y que siempre esta cubierto, coge un revolver y dispara cinco veces al lugar desde donde se había tirado la teja.

The invisible man hear that the police were in the house and he felt betrayed. With kemp then they fight and the invisible men can escape.

Griffin explica a Kent que le robo a su propio padre, quien se suicidio tras el robo. Griffin experimentó con una fórmula que alteraba los objetos, volviéndolos así invisibles. Pero ahora, explica a Kemp, planea comenzar un reinado de terror, usando su invisibilidad para someter al país.

Un domingo de Pentecostés, el señor y la señora Hall bajaron a la bodega, cuando en eso recordó la señora Hall que había dejado una botella en su habitación pero como ella es experta en toda esta materia el señor Hall fue a traerla. Al estar en el piso de arriba vio que una habitación esta medio abierta y normalmente se mantiene cerrada, y al ver la señora Hall le dijo que por que tardaba tanto y vieron que los muebles de esa habitación estaban como embrujados.

El forastero entra al salón del Coach and Horses permaneció allí hasta Medio día. El forastero se miraba muy agotado por no comer cuando decide llamar a la señora Hall, le decía que le debía muchas cosas la señora Hall a él, y el forastero simplemente negaba todo. Cuando de repente el forastero se enojo tanto que se quito los anteojos, sombrero, todo lo que tenia hasta las vendas, Y todas las personas que habitaban en el salón huyeron ya que vieron que el forastero era una persona que no tenia cabeza, y llamaban el hombre invisible Y todas estas personas quedaron muy asustadas. Se dice que el señor Thomas Marvel era una persona con cara ancha y muy redonda, baja estatura etc.. Peleaba con ver que botas eran mas bonitas y cuales no hasta que el señor Thomas Marvel se quedo sentado en la cuneta de la carretera cuando escucha una voz que estaba detrás de él. Primero pensaba que estaba loco que el no podía imaginarse voces pero tanto que le hablaba que después Marvel decidió ayudar al hombre invisible por que lo que el invisible quería era un poco de ayuda.
