Serial entrepreneur Marcus Bicknell - or should that read "serial intrepreneur" - points out that for many mortals in the business world it is better to innovate from within a corporate environment rather than setting up a start-up company. He showed with actual examples (both successes and failures, if you push him) why finding the right environment alongside or inside another company might be the best way to take your idea forward, especially in the 2008-2012 financial slowdown. Marcus managed Genesis and worked for CBS and A&M Records in the 70s so you can regale him with your rock’n’roll stories. He was the founder Commercial Director of Luxembourg based satellite ASTRA 1986-1990 and he is now back there ten times a year, in Luxembourg, as a non-exec director of ASTRA’s holding company, now the world's biggest commercial satellite operator, SES. In the 90s he was MD Europe for TV channels BBC World and BBC Prime, and President of CMGI Europe (AltaVista, Geocities, Engage profiling, Lycos &c.). His own latest venture is award-winning eco-products specialist RainWaterHarvesting.co.uk whose start-up success is based on cuddling up with a cash-rich warehousing and fulfillment center. Their innovative products – the Solar Rain Director is launched at EcoBuild in March – show that you can apply high technology, patent protection, trademark registration and aggressive marketing even to an industry, which would otherwise be dominated by open-toed-sandal-wearing tree-huggers. Marcus is USA born, a British national, M.A. in Physical Anthropology (Cambridge), ex instrument-rated private pilot, motor-racer, horse-rider, has lived in 7 countries, speaks German and French and lives with his family in Chalfont St Giles. Serial entrepreneur Marcus Bicknell - or should that read "serial intrepreneur" - points out that for

many mortals in the business world it is better to innovate from within a corporate environment rather

than setting up a start-up company. He showed with actual examples (both successes and failures, if you

push him) why finding the right environment alongside or inside another company might be the best way

to take your idea forward, especially in the 2008-2012 financial slowdown.

Marcus managed Genesis and worked for CBS and A&M Records in the 70s so you can regale him with your

rock’n’roll stories. He was the founder Commercial Director of Luxembourg based satellite ASTRA 1986-1990

and he is now back there ten times a year, in Luxembourg, as a non-exec director of ASTRA’s holding

company, now the world's biggest commercial satellite operator, SES. In the 90s he was MD Europe for TV

channels BBC World and BBC Prime, and President of CMGI Europe (AltaVista, Geocities, Engage profiling,

Lycos &c.). His own latest venture is award-winning eco-products specialist RainWaterHarvesting.co.uk

whose start-up success is based on cuddling up with a cash-rich warehousing and fulfillment center. Their

innovative products – the Solar Rain Director is launched at EcoBuild in March – show that you can apply

high technology, patent protection, trademark registration and aggressive marketing even to an industry,

which would otherwise be dominated by open-toed-sandal-wearing tree-huggers.

Marcus is USA born, a British national, M.A. in Physical Anthropology (Cambridge), ex instrument-rated

private pilot, motor-racer, horse-rider, has lived in 7 countries, speaks German and French and lives with his

family in Chalfont St Giles.
