What is a Wedding Trend?Trends can begin anywhere with a designer, a fashion

show, through social media or even on the street.

Suddenly something becomes novel or unique and it

catches on, the buzz begins and what was once novel

is now mainstream and popular.

Details & trends are two staples of the wedding

industry - everybody says they are able to create

amazing details that are either "on trend" or

trendsetting.

You have to keep track of everything fashion and

home design if you want to keep a few steps ahead in

event design because it moves at such a fast pace.

The bottom line though is that when we look at

trends a trend always begins with just one person.

That creative spark lights a flame that travels

throughout the world's population and we call that

creative spark design. And we call the people that do

that designers. That is really where it all starts.

We’re excited to announce the launch of the 2irst annual Wedding Planning Trend Report, which has been produced by the Wedding and Events Training Group that includes:

-‐ UK Academy of Wedding and Event Planning -‐ Australian Academy of Wedding and Event Planning -‐ The Wedding and Event Institute

The research has been led by Kylie Carlson, the director of the group training campuses and industry expert. She has enlisted the help of some top wedding professionals to give their expert opinions on what trends will be leading the way for weddings in 2015.

As an international training company we are in the

unique position to compile a report of this type using

our own research combined with the knowledge of

The International Wedding Trends Report 2015


When researching trends for this report we went outside of our own industry for inspiration. Trends in weddings are led by what’s happening in interior decor, fashion, lifestyle, pop culture and the colour authorities. We paid particular attention to what we were seeing on the runways at New York Fashion Week, in the glossy magazines and on the red carpet, as these are clear indicators of what is to come in our own wonderful world of weddings.

The key is how we take these trends and translate them into the design of a wedding. Not all of our clients will be trend driven, and as personalisation is such a big trend for weddings in 2015, incorporating trends into wedding design has to take a subtle approach. A trend is something that is happening now. It isn’t the be all and end all of your design. A trend is simply someone’s opinion, especially within areas such as colour and interior design.

Colour itself is like one of the senses, enhancing our world and our state of mind. Colour can bring about a transformation - energising, refreshing, calming, expanding or warming a space. The colour authority, Pantone, announced the colour of the year for 2015 as Marsala, an earthy red brown with a sophisticated tone, which is a far cry from last year’s colour, Radiant Orchid. This is a strong colour so it will be interesting to see how it is incorporated, a pop in floral design, an invitation liner or a breath taking vintage sofa?

The biggest colours on the runway at New York Fashion week were Lemon Yellow, Cherry Red, Ice Blue Light Rose and Fresh White.

In interior design the hottest neural colour is grey with olive green leading the way in the organic colour range. There is also a big lean towards the Renaissance period with the combinations of greens, plums, cerulean blue, beiges and whites and the mixing of patterns and textures, as seen in many Renaissancepaintings.

Neon is the other big pick from both the fashion and interior design world. We can thank designers such as Oscar de la Renta and Christopher Kane for this big trend. We can’t wait to see how this will be incorporated into wedding design as this palette is daring and energetic and definitely demands attention.

Researching Trends



The World of FashionThere are some very definite trends coming off the runway that we can see being strong contenders in wedding design. Like anything it is about how you use them and not taking things too literally.

GinghamGingham might seem like an unlikely candidate but it has now gone far beyond the traditional red ginghamseen in tablecloths. The key to making this trend work is mixing up the colours.

Statement PiecesWe LOVE this trend. Statement pieces are like the headlines in a story. Think about oversized bags, statement jewellery pieces such as earrings and layered necklaces, or even a signature scarf. They all tell a story and this is so easily translated into wedding design. An oversized prop such as a vase, light or tree, an ice bar or floral design piece all work as part of this trend.

Metallic AccessoriesThis trend is hot, hot, hot and can be seen everywhere. Again this is an easy one to incorporate into your wedding design simply by adding some gold accent cushions or a gold table runner as part of your tablescape.

Black and WhiteI’m not sure that black and white ever went out of fashion, but if it did then it is back with a vengeance on the catwalks. The beauty of black and white is that you can add any accent colour to this combination and it will pop.

Mixed PatternsThere is a skill to mixing patterns successfully and you need to be careful with this trend to not look like you’ve tried too hard. One of the key elements is to make sure that you use odd numbers when mixing and three is the minimum number suggested by top designers. Another top tip is to not mix primary colours with pastels or jewel tones with muted colours the hue needs to be the same for the mixture of patterns to work.

The World of Interior DesignModern interior design trends for 2015 include classic, retro and contemporary design ideas, traditional and new materials, fresh decorating colours, exotic motifs, ethnic decoration patterns, artistic details and surprising blends of textures.

Fusion of StylesMixing old and new design ideas and incorporating a fusion of styles into décor are modern trends that connect the old and fresh. Softly curved lines, organic shapes and natural colour schemes with stunning accents.

Bringing the Outside InNatural materials, such as stone, wood, moss, plants, branches etc. represent an eco friendly, contemporary feeling in design and décor. Natural elements and interior colours, organic shapes and textures are very much prevalent in design for 2015.

PrintsPrints that are reminiscent of Moroccan patterns have always been popular in both the wedding and interior design worlds and are set to be hot in the next couple of years. Patterns that mix deep mocha and ivory tones are being adapted for design. Animal prints and textures will be trending this year. You will see them used on couches, ottomans, benches, pillows, and chairs.

Rustic versus RetroBlack and white geometrical prints, posters, chalk drawings and handwritten letters on black painted walls are contemporary interpretations of the rustic style giving it a retro vibe.

What’s Old is NewReused and recycled décor pieces mixed with contemporary or modern pieces; to create a new, stylish, and

interesting design space.

We take notice of colour every season and colour choice plays a major role in the evolution of any wedding design. Even just a few years ago colour for weddings meant primarily what a bride was going to dress her bridesmaids in. Colour today will, in the end, weave through almost every element that we touch; from the graphic of the invitation, to how the food is presented on the plate. Colour can include the lighting, linens, decor elements and yes, even the culinary decisions.

Remember to use colour like an artist, not pick a colour as a theme. A strong palate will combine four to five colours and include all of the tones you are using among your design elements. Consider what are your neutrals, dominant and accent colours and use them appropriately.

Look to mother nature as she pairs the most inspiring of all colour combinations. Another great source of colour inspiration is Hollywood’s red carpet fashions. This is one of our ‘go to places’ for a trend colour forecast. Another good source is Pantone. They determine the colour of the year and ask designers to go about designing sketches around their colours and how they would utilise them. This year’s colour is Marsala, a rich burgundy red, which we will no doubt see featured in many weddings for the forthcoming season.

So what are our top picks for colour in weddings for the forthcoming season. Well metallics are set to take centre stage in 2015 with the big pick being copper. Rose gold will still be in the mix along with reliable favourites plain gold and silver, but metallics are set to shine and really feature within wedding design. Luxurious mixed metals are big right now and this glamorous look is definitely here to stay. Think gold, silver, pewter, rose gold, copper mixed with shimmery ivories or even black for a really sleek colour palette.

Bold colours are being chosen over pastels so we will be seeing lots of Purples, Reds, Fuschia pinks, even strong peach and yellow tones - deep rich combinations in florals are definitely making a striking comeback.

Sara Burnett from Burnett’s Boards - http://burnettsboards.comRose Gold is definitely going to be big in 2015. I’m seeing it all over the place – from headpieces to details on wedding gowns. It’s a sublime and sophisticated colour while still being perfectly feminine. I’m looking forward to seeing brides pair rose gold with other metallics like masculine pewter and copper as well as brushed gold and silver. Metallics were big this past year and I believe they will continue to have a strong run.As far as bold colours go – I think brides will veer away from bold as neon and go darker. Since the 2015 colour of the year is Marsala brides will go bold by pairing this with rich, deep navy hues and bold greens and browns. Black wedding dresses are also going to continue to make bold statements in 2015.

Wayne Gurnick from Moments By Wayne - http://momentsbywayne.com I'm seeing paired with tones of burgundy, chocolates or blues. Bold colours are being chosen over pastels for 2015, in particular the strong contenders being Apricot and French Blue. While Pantone has chosen Marsala as their colour for 2015, I find that brides want a more romantic colour palette, opting for off-colour reds and wines, such as Crimson, Pomegranate, Ruby and Cherry. These tones will be combined more and more with nature’s neutrals of Sand, Taupe and Soft Stone.

Elizabeth Muhmood Kane - http://bridalmusings.comRose gold is definitely having a bit of a moment, from jewellery to interior design and even wedding cakes. I do hope we see more of it in 2015. Another alternative metallic accent that I predict will be popular in 2015 is copper.

Bold colours such as berry tones, purples, plums and eggplant are set to be popular here in the UK. A recent styled shoot by This Modern Romance featuring floaty Jenny Yoo bridesmaids dresses in various purple shades is forever showing up in my Pinterest feed. The Gatsby theme brought gold back into popularity these past 2 years.

My pick for the bold colours are lots of purples, reds, fuschia pinks, even strong peach and yellow tones - deep rich combinations in florals are definitely making a striking comeback, the softness of equally as popular as white and cream tones.

Wedding Themes 2015


Our pick for wedding themes in 2015 are Bohemian Chic, Classic Minimalist, Festival Style & 1930s Vintage.

A relatively new entry onto the wedding scene is Industrial Chic. While outdoor weddings are still very popular, the wedding world has seen a growing trend of indoor weddings that take place in chic industrial spaces. The key to pulling off one of these gorgeous weddings starts with an amazing venue. Look for a venue that has unique architecture and an urban vibe. Restored lofts, factories, and warehouses create this ideal wedding location.

A new favourite of ours is Classic Minimalism. It's going to be less DIY and more clean, modern lines and colour palettes. Expertly styled minimalism is the sophisticated alternative to all the DIY touches. Modern minimalism has one recurring theme - the design is simple, consistent, clean, and uncluttered.

On the other side of the spectrum is Dramatic Opulence with lush, romantic linens and floral arrangements set the tone for an opulent affair. The "Dramatic Opulence wedding trend is all about creating an experience within the event.

Finally we look at the wedding trends from 2014 that will still be going strong in 2015:

• Vintage – it will have a more modern look steering away from the Downton Abbey feel • Woodland – still a relatively new trend which isn’t going anywhere for the forthcoming year • Bohemian - barefoot, unpretentious, ethereal and stunning this look has always got our vote.

So, let's sum it up. The new wedding will be sophisticated, formal, and elegant. Whether it be from a modern design aspect or an elaborate one; you just need to decide which aesthetic works for your client.

Jane Riddell from Planned for Perfection - http://www.plannedforperfection.co.ukThe biggest trend that we are seeing, is the desire to create a very personal take on the popular themes mentioned. By using them as a starting point for styling and then designing an individual and unique day, using favourite elements without being all consuming, with flowers playing a key part in creating the WOW factor. There is cetainly a shift to a more informal day with intricate detailing and a warm vibe.

There will still be a vintage presence in 2015, perhaps using the traditional ideas in a way that's not been used before and using individual interpretations to include a hint of vintage or mixing it with other themes, that haven't seen together before.

With the hype around 'Fifty Shades of Greys' release, I'm sure that grey will remain a popular colour choice for 2015 and be an influence in general!

Translucent wedding decor is still popular, particularly the Ghost chair as these give an illusion of space. They work as the perfect replacement of hotel banqueting chairs and fit in well with a variety of weddings themes.

Lisa Macale from Willow Tree Creative - http://www.willowtreecreative.com.auBohemian Chic / Gypsy is one trend I’m seeing more of in recent months. Dresses are becoming more Bohemain inspired with lots of lace and texture. Wild unstructured flowers and mixes of colours paired with metallic tones have also been very popular to create that bohemian look.

Classic minimalist styles have also been popular with some of my brides for 2015. The use of simple elegant classic styling. Its been very popular to have tables unclothed with wooden chairs and simple florals arrangements as table centrepieces. I’ve also a growing number of Mexican inspired weddings/events which I think will continue over the past year.

I'm seeing less and less of burlap table runners with vintage jars! I'm seeing vintage done more tastefully lately in a style that I would describe as glamorous vintage (that 1930's style).

Wayne Gurnick from Moments By Wayne - http://momentsbywayne.com My clients are leaning toward customized themes that tie into their special interests though the significant trend is a re-emergence to traditional style with romance as the overwhelming theme. Beach weddings on the west coast are still ever popular. The image below shows a blending of romance and beach style.

The vintage style will take on an updated look and transform to reflect a modern day take on fairytale romance with weddings being inspired by the Disney movie “Into the Woods” and “Cinderella”.

Bohemian in the more free-spirited sense of the word has run it’s course a little and brides are pulling their looks back towards more traditional wedding styles, why still including boho details. I also think that the ‘organic’ look is going to continue strong: think – handpicked bouquets, rustic farm tables, earthy linens, and intimate outdoors receptions. I don’t think we have outgrown the vintage look – vintage brides will always want a vintage wedding. What I do think we’ve outgrown is the ‘shabby chic’ look with burlaps and peeling paint. As far as movies go Disney’s live action version of Cinderella is obviously going to produce a flood of Cinderella themed wedding inspiration shoots. The Moon and The Sun – due out in April will also affect weddings with a regal, whimsical take.


Wedding Venues & Locations


For most couples getting married the venue is usually one of the first choices to be made. It seems that in 2015 we are going to be embracing the weekend wedding where the event starts on the Friday and continues through until the Sunday. Venues such as country estates & private stately homes, which can be hired out on an exclusive basis, are ideal for these types of weddings. Couples are looking of ways to really extend the celebrations and spend time with those attending so venues with accommodation options will be popular.

The great outdoors is still a huge inspiration for many couples and this is being translated into the type of venue being chosen. The rise of the teepee and other similar type tents lend themselves to this style of wedding. This also leads nicely on the glamping trend that took the world by storm after the wedding of Matthew McConnaughy. This trend isn’t going anywhere fast and is set to be even bigger in 2015 as more and more couples opt to go away from tradition and really personalize their wedding.

Our other big venue pick for 2015 is the industrial style venue such as a warehouse or old factory with exposed brickwork, vaulted ceilings, exposed metal pipes and many other quirky details that give it that gritty urban feel. This style of venue has been thrust into the limelight by being featured in many styled shoots around the world as an alternative venue and seems to be taking over from the rustic barn, which has been popular for so long.

Destination weddings are still popular across the world with Italy and France being the hot choices in Europe and further afield the Caribbean is still featuring highly on many lists.

Of course beaches, vineyards, gardens and backyard weddings will always be popular especially in Australia and island locations, some things never go out of style.

Overall, not unlike many elements, couples are looking for somewhere unique that reflects their personality to hold their wedding in.

I've no doubt there will be lots more destination weddings in 2015 - the world is much more accessible, people are travelling more, flights are getting cheaper and today's couples are very often not from the same home town, country or continent anymore! A destination wedding is a great way to find/return to a special place to bring both sets of families and friends together there to celebrate.High profile celebrity weddings such as Kim Kardashian and Kanye West's lavish affair in Florence and George Clooney and Amal Alamuddin's elegant Venetian nuptials may well have sowed the seeds in couple's minds about the romance of an Italian wedding.

The barn wedding also continues to be a popular choice, for a relaxed atmosphere, rustic food service and a more relaxed and informal day.Marquee & Teepee weddings will continue in popularity during 2015, these structures offer the opportunity to create a totally unique wedding and are often chosen as they are often less restricting for the couples and can be erected on the lawns of a family home, in a field or the grounds of a Country House Hotel, allowing for creativity underneath the canvas for the perfect wedding day.Venues that are open to flexibility are in demand, couples don't want to be shoehorned into what they are told to do on their wedding day anymore, they want to show their individuality and have a truly bespoke wedding day. Country houses and exclusive use venues offer couples the opportunity to bring family and friends together for a wedding weekend rather than just the wedding day, creating a 'home away from home' relaxed feel.Boutique venues going to be more in demand for weddings in 2015 and there are some fabulous 'one of a kind' wedding venues and a boutique venue tends to have a modern designer decor with eccentric and quirky touches, bold statements and splashes of colour - Cotswolds88 and Cowley Manor in the Cotswolds or 45 Park Lane or Blakes hotels in London are great examples of boutique wedding venues. With luxury facilities, attentive service and an excellent reputation.

For big weddings the outdoor venues and romantic tents will continue to be popular as well as vineyards and ranches. For brides who are looking for something more intimate, the popularity of destination weddings will continue to grow and more and more destination brides will seek unique, boutique locations like ruins in Ireland.For island brides, the beach will still play a role however they’ll also look for more upscale locations in tropical locales. As far as the glamping trend goes it will move over to the party realm. Glamping rehearsal dinners, bachelorette parties and bridal showers will be popular, with more traditional looks for the actual wedding.

Décor and Signature Elements

Hanging décor is set to be huge in 2015. Rather than thinking about just decorating the tables at a venue stylists are now looking to bring an entire look to a room to really create a wow impact. Florals are being added to existing lighting fixtures at venues, large floral structures are being hung from truss lines as circular features above dancefloors, staircases and as entrance features. Lines of hanging florals are being positioned above bridal tables stopping just above heads for a whimsical willow tree effect. If florals aren't to your couple’s liking then hanging lanterns or even umbrellas also create a fantastic impact and a more modern look. Large opulent wedding trees are here to stay. They are still very much a wow effect for guests. Trees really are the epitome of bringing the outside indoors and can create a mystical and majestic setting. This trend was made popular by Kate and William’s wedding…remember the trees at their wedding? So the bigger the better. Trees will be specific too, think willow trees or flowering wisteria, and LED trees will also still be in demand for lounge areas, behind or next to feature areas such as Bars or Dessert Stations or Food Stations.Chandeliers are everything. Don’t have a ceiling? No problem. Hang them anywhere from trees to marquees. We love seeing brides & grooms incorporating chandeliers into their wedding décor in unexpected ways, like within the wedding marquee. For a bride that wants an outdoor wedding but isn't into the whole rustic thing, this is a great & simple way to enhance the elegance factor. Also consider hanging a lone chandelier above an outdoor lounge area, or to illuminate a nighttime, outdoor ceremony. In 2015 the chandelier is getting a twist! We’re seeing chandeliers this year that work perfectly with the popular "farmyard chic" theme that’s emerged. Picture chandeliers made from jars, wood, & wine barrels instead of dripping with crystals. Edison lighting has become huge in the interior design world, so it's no surprise that we're seeing it in weddings. These old fashioned, industrial-looking bulbs give an intimate, yellow-ish glow to a space and we think they are perfect for more modern weddings. These might be a bit similar to bistro lighting, but typically they are hung straight down from the ceiling (rather than strung like bistro lighting is), keeping the look clean & sophisticated. Lighting is making its way into the foreground of wedding décor by becoming bigger and bolder than ever! Think over the top and create a focal point with lighting like light-up letters. While they may or may not be bright enough to light up the late night wedding reception snacks, they're certainly a show-stopper.

We recently used one on a modern Open Indian Mandap, although the request is more for ructic style chandeliers, less crystal and not necessarily electric. (more for display). Battery operated candles are in huge demand at present as well.One of the big trends we’ve been hearing about everywhere when it comes to statement pieces is anything that hangs, from florals, lanterns, umbrellas etc. For outdoor functions the conditions need to be right but we do love creating depth with height and hanging décor. Denise's top wedding décor trends for 2015?

I think Vintage is on the way out, Rustic has come full circle and we now look at softening this look, less with burlap and more with flowers and softer fabrics. Not sure how long the geometric shapes/flowers will be around, there are elements of copper also making an appearance. Navy and Gold with Warm Hues. Backdrops of all styles are still huge.

Aleah and Nick Valley from Valley & Co - http://www.valleyandco.comWe love seeing installations for weddings suspended overhead as it creates an enchanting and fresh look and feeling for guests to experience. We have created beautiful elements of suspended gauzy drapery with delicate greenery garlands, floating flowers and glowing lights. It's a trend that we see only becoming more and more popular, with branches overhead and torn fabrics as well as floral chandeliers. Chandeliers, floral swags, and draping add height and drama to the overall styling, and it is one of the many ways to create a theme and illustrate the couples story. From enchanted forest to a glamorous and elegant affair; hanging installations, and draped canopies are huge going in to 2015. Soft chiffon draping with lush green foliage garlands can add lavish and romantic detailing. Whilst tall statement trees can be hung with ribbons, crystals and flowers to create scale. A single statement tree as a focal point for guests is perfect as an escort table centrepiece or wishing tree.

A huge advocate of signage, ensuring guests are confident and comfortable throughout the day we are seeing an increase in requests for mirrored and illuminated signs. From clear LED illuminated posters to neon arrows. It is a fun and cool way to style your event whilst keeping the guests informed. Personal statements, poems, quotes, and declarations of love are emerging, with grooms keen to become more involved with adding their own details. Lettering as a backdrop in the woodland, on the lawn, or behind the top table make for great images. Florals are being added to existing lighting fixtures at venues, large floral structures are being hung from truss lines as circular features above dancefloors, staircases and as entrance features. Lines of hanging florals are being positioned above bridal tables stopping just above heads for a whimsical willow tree effect. Floral frames are being constructed behind the Bridal table to accentuate the space occupied by the Bridal table……beautiful 4 poster gazebos are also returning as a beautiful Bridal Table boudoir positioned on a podium …almost jewel like in appearance. Opulent wedding trees will still be around but they have to be grand …this trend was made popular by Kate and Wills wedding…remember the trees at their wedding? So the bigger the better and they will go the next step and trees will be specific i. e. willow trees or flowering wisteria, LED trees will also still be in demand for lounge areas, behind or next to feature areas such as Bars or Dessert Stations or Food Stations. Glamour is still around and I feel that the trend will be for for extravagance and flamboyance…. the bigger the better – Brides will demand for so much more in design for their weddings and I see a very strong move towards decadence and specific themes. Expect to see fountains, fantasy themes and fairies literally. Unusual performers for entertainment and opulent food installations on arrival to greet guests. From one extreme to the other … we will also see a complete contrast for simplicity and elegance also… no middle ground at all, weddings will either be extraordinarily decorated or just understated, clean elegant lines & styling – not much in-between!

What looks great on the runway and in photo shoots is not necessarily practical for a wedding. It will take a very confident, fashion forward bride to wear flowers… one that is fine with knowing that it is not for the faint of heart. She should be sure to have her professional florist on stand by for adjustment and fixes. Flowers are very delicate and are a short term “WOW”, best for a ceremony but not the whole celebration. I do not see this becoming a huge trend or mainstream happening.Those clients that desire opulence are looking for an abundant design and clean style. This is achieved by working with a creative and talented floral designer that has the ability to create wedding designs that highlight each and every bloom used. This can be achieved using mono-floral design where a favourite flower is used in mass to create abundance as well as multi floral design where many different types of flowers are used to create lavish displays. In addition, crystals and decorative gems can be used along with the flowers to reflect light.Hanging floral décor is a huge trend. We have taken existing pepper trees at a client's home and carved out an arch to make a space for the bride and groom to stand under… to frame the bride and groom, we will be suspending hundreds of roses and several small birdcages containing purple finches. For another client, we are designing a complete canopy draped with platinum organza that will be laced with white orchids. Lighting will play a huge role in illuminating the ceiling of cascading florals. This will all be suspended from a number of truss structures and airplane cable. Moving onto fabrics and linen we are still seeing geometric patterns and although the revival started with the chevron print, which has been seen a lot in weddings in the last couple of years, we’re now seeing a move to polka dot and stripes in nautical and retro colours. They’ll be seen in napkins, table runners and cushions.

Floral prints are also making a major comeback, especially for spring and summer weddings. Use them for tablecloths, napkins, bunting and try suggesting to your bridal couple to continue the theme through to the bridal party with dresses and bowties in a similar print.

Sequins are no longer just the realm of the dressmaker, sequins have found their way onto the wedding table, Particularly popular are sequined tablecloths, which you’ll find will add a touch of glamour to any theme.

We like to anchor reception tables with more neutral linens and top them with beautiful patterned tops like overlays, runners or napkins. Looking to these elements to draw in patterns, bright colours or luxe textures is a great way for those to really pop without being too much. We utilize areas like a cake table, bar, entry tables, or cocktail tables to go wild with festive linens.

The popular wedding linen choices for 2015 include soft floral patterns, plaids and detailed brocades, and metallic linens will be worked in as accent colours. For spring and summertime weddings lighter and airier linens like seersucker and cottons will be utilized in sweet patterns and textures.

Marsala is the Pantone Color of the Year but we see it as more of an accent colour as it has such a rich hue. We see it being incorporated in napkins or runners, but perhaps not so much on dining table linens.

Natural chairs are very popular - whether it's the ghost chairs, cross-back winery chairs, or the classic chivari. Couples lean more towards these styles but accent them with garlands of greenery, flowers, ribbon, or decorative chair caps that accentuate the linens rather than chair covers.

Linens should not overpower but compliment the stem ware, centrepieces, flowers, etc to pull a look together and give a room presence without bring overbearing.

Texture and geometric designs will continue to feature heavily in 2015. Sequined fabrics will still play a significant part but we will start to see more tactile linens and a greater variety of tactile linens– especially in the UK. A lot of ruffle fabrics and intricate brocade will be popular but still keeping colours quite neutral or on the metallic spectrum. Towards the end of 2015 more geometric patterns will come through in the form of runners and napkins to accessorise a table. Here in the UK we will start to see clients adopting the more opulent chair treatment options as seen in the US.

Traditional satin or cotton chair covers are being phased out in favour of ‘bare’ chairs like the chiavari and ghost styles. These are so elegant teamed with knotted satin runners or sequin chair slips for a dash of glamour. More luxury chair treatments will be available in 2015 and featuring the use of tulle and brocade fabrics to make luxury chair slips.

Texture will be even bigger this year and also fabrics with a more luxurious handle like classic satin remade in cashmere soft metallics. Petals and romantic ruffle fabrics will also prove popular.

Chevron in the satin/cotton fabric has featured everywhere in 2014 but it is still a fabulous choice in the sequin fabric. Moving through 2015 we will see more random form geometric patterns emerge using metallic threads (rose gold and copper will feature heavily) within a cotton fabric – a luxe industrial theme. This looks beautiful paired with sheepskin throws over ghost chair backs. The ikat/Aztec pattern that’s been popular in home furnishings will be showing through in 2015 also.

Sashes will start to be phased out in favour of bare chairs or luxury chair slips. Napkins will be an important statement piece to accessorise a table-scape and we’ll also see napkin rings come back into play. They will be industrial cool with metallic geometric shapes. We will also see linens made especially for cake tables – linens are no longer an afterthought they are rapidly becoming an essential item!

• Metallics As I mentioned above, metallics are in! The smallest touches of either gold or silver can really set the cake apart.

• Texture Brides are after a cake that has those small details which help to add interest and texture to their cake. Things such as an abundance of edible pearls or adding edible lace to the cake, all add to the overall finish and appeal. Adding texture to the cake can make it look more expensive and intricate which a lot of brides like.

• Mixing and matching patterns It’s not for every couple but it is starting to pick up steam. An example of this would be mixing a black and white stripe with a bright and colourful floral pattern.

• Size I think 2015 will see a rise in the size of cakes that are being made. I’ve noticed an increase in the cake size for my 2015 bookings as opposed to 2014. Couples are after that ‘wow’ factor when their guests walk into the venue and a large cake can certainly provide that.

• Unique flavours. As mentioned earlier couples are looking for cake they haven’t eaten at any other wedding. They are daring to step out the vanilla cake comfort zone and look at something daring and delicious.

Some couples just don't like the idea of giving their guests fondant (sugar paste) covered cake and the rustic or buttercream cake are good alternatives if they would like a tiered cake. I don't think the rustic cake is completely on its way out, as it still works really well with a rustic location or styling and they can be more sophisticated -But I can definitely see a shift to buttercream cakes because they can look just as elegant as a fondant covered cake. There numerous ways you can adapt the buttercream cake to suit the style or needs of the couple, where as you are more restricted with the design of a naked cake. The most popular style I'm being asked for at the moment is a cake with a textured buttercream and to dress it with fresh flowers from the couples florist.There are so many incredible cake designers these days, that I'm not surprised that wedding couples are now very particular about the flavour of the cake. A dry tasteless cake is mortifying for a couple and it is our duty as cake makers to make sure the taste is just as good as the design. The flavours I'm finding most requested at the moment does depend on the season: Autumn & winter are the warmer flavours of maple or apple & cinnamon or rich moist fruit cake, Summer months are the more classical flavours, of lemon & raspberry or strawberry & champagne. Some new favourites are vanilla with a salted caramel filling and chocolate with a gianduja(hazelnut spread) filling. Almost 25% of my bookings for 2015 have a metallic incorporated into the design. The beauty with metallics and in particular golds is that they go so well with so many of the really bold colour schemes couples are choosing at the moment. You can keep the cake itself fairly classical, but bring in a big pop of colour from the metallic and boldly coloured sugar flowers.Jaclyn's top 4 wedding cake trends for 2015?

• Metallics - they work beautifully with other bold colours and it adds a real feel of luxury to a wedding cake.

• Buttercream cakes with the more rustic feel - add big fresh peonies or roses to these cakes and you are left with a gorgeous creation.

• Lace - this never tires and I'm getting a lot more brides bring me examples of their lace detailing for me to replicate so that their cake doesn't look like every other lace wedding cake.

• Sugar flowers - all my 2015 customers who are having a fondant covered cake would like sugar flowers as part of the design. Some are big and bold and some are simple white roses.

It seems that live bands are back and as many are now able to give that really authentic festival or gig feel to their performance it is making them a hugely popular choice over the alternatives like a simple DJ.

Fireworks are out and fire performers are in. They are more interactive and can be just as entertaining as a firework display.

Checking your phone at the door of the ceremony is going to be something we see a little more of in 2015. Many couples want to discourage guests from gluing themselves to their phones during the ceremony and reception. Offering a phone check at the door encourages an unplugged feeling and encourages mingling. Couples can keep things intimate and engaged by using their wedding website or program to request that guests refrain from snapping photos and videos with their phones and abstain from posting pictures of the ceremony to social media sites.

On the flipside of the unplugged wedding, some couples want to capture every moment of their wedding day via things like custom hashtags. To make sure guests can keep snapping and updating, receptions are outfitted with charging stations for phones and devices. To make the charging stations look chic and festive, stylists are using things like specialty linens and flatbeds of roses, little flowers, or wheatgrass designed specially by a florist to mask the power sources and incorporate them into the overall design.

With everyone embracing the selfie, from young to old, it is hardly surprising that any form of entertainment that indulges this trend is going to be popular. Photo booths have been done to death and the new kid in town is the video booth. First of all we always see the wedding music trend following the charts and with artists such as Ed Sheeran and Jason Mraz being so popular at the moment it's no surprise that brides and grooms are chosing similar style music for their big day. Secondly there has been an influx of sound limiters at venues across the UK and so wedding bands and musicians have had to adapt their style and set up to accommodate this.Fire performers are by far one of the most booked wedding entertainment acts of 2014 and there's no signs of it slowing down for 2015. It is an act many of the guests may not have seen before and it lasts longer than fire works (typically 3-5 minutes) with a standard show being around 15-20 minutes with a pyrotechnic finale. In 2015 laser cut invitations will definitely become more prevalent. As we slowly shift away from the extremely rustic weddings to more simple yet elegant wedding design, laser cut invitations are definitely the statement piece to convey this to guests. Metallics and pastel colours are making their way onto invitations, too. Foil stamping gives a classy and elegant touch to any paper goods. Old-style printing techniques are also coming back strong, such as letterpress.

Watercolour florals and patterns are better than ever, as they beautifully accompany the major details of the wedding day. In 2015 especially, it’s all about the font! Brides and grooms are mixing up different font types and colours to perfectly convey not only the standard information, but their unique personalities in a fun poster-style manner.

In addition to all of the traditional paper and stationery items, I’m thinking beyond the expected. I love to carry the brand we create for our clients into other special moments and details like coordinating fabrics for pillows and table runners and even custom printed wallpaper and welcome bags.

I’ve been using laser cutting for years and am constantly coming up with new ways to elevate the technique within my designs. I love intricate laser-cut pieces like a full coverage or assymmetical bellyband (the piece that wraps around the belly of the invitation) sleeve (a pocket that the invitation set tucks into) or even used around the border of the invitation itself. However, I must be honest when I say that trends will come and go so I always encourage my brides to follow their hearts and go for something that is completely unique and completely you! In other words, be bold and set your own trend! As your designer, my job is to help craft what that new vision is and push the boundaries for you.

Gold and metallics will always be on trend when it comes to weddings and special events. Luxurious mixed metals are big right now and this glamorous look is definitely here to stay. Think gold, silver, pewter, rose gold, copper mixed with shimmery ivories or even black for a super sleek colour palette. The result is an invitation that looks like actual metal --- almost like a fine piece of jewelry. That’s the exact effect I want to achieve, in fact. An invitation that’s so personal and luxurious and that you can’t wait to show off!

Plenty of pink is in style, notably with florals, and I’m working with all shades from muted nudes to sweet blushes and rosy tones. Floral prints are having a big moment, especially in vibrant watercolour notes, taking a nod from the runway and translating it into wedding design.

The top trend for me is the unexpected pieces and moments like the wallpaper, pillows, fabrics and other items I mentioned. I love to see the designs we create brought into the event decor as well as into your life after the big day. For me, it’s all about beautifying your world!

• Colour Pop: Rather than sticking to just one or two colours to theme your wedding around a full pallet is used to give a lively and fun theme. A trend that took off in the US, Brides are being much bolder with their colours and the colour pop look gives so much freedom when it comes to choosing reception details and bridesmaids dresses.

• Quirky: As a kind of under-trend to traditional grand weddings is a more whimsical theme to portray a more laid back approach to wedding planning. Designs with animals and flowers are used to move away from the more traditional approach to wedding stationery.

• Simple & Elegant: By no means a new trend but so many brides have a theme idea that they can’t match to their wedding stationery, whether that’s down to design or budget restrictions, so elegant and simple stationery will continue to have a strong place in 2015 with bridal whites and ivories being chosen to compliment other colours and themes for the day itself.
