SECTION I: INTRODUCTION
Founders’ Statements
1. Based on our experiences as international students, we saw the need for an effective student-
run body that focuses on international students; promoting peer support. With that, our aim is to
establish an effective student-level platform that promotes an active community for international
students.
2. ISO acknowledges that it is founded within the University of Manitoba campuses, located on the
original lands of Anishinaabeg, Cree, Oji-Cree, Dakota, and Dene peoples, and on the homeland
of the Métis Nation.
3. Founders of the organization will provide mentorship and support for incoming executives.

5. Welcome to the bylaws of the International Students Organization.

Organization Name-
1. The name of this organization, as decided, shall be the “International Students Organization”
(ISO).
What is the International Students Organization?
1. ISO is a student body that provides peer-based assistance to international students, promoting
and engaging this community.
Founder and Co-founders-
1. ISO is founded by Chris Otisi and co-founded by Salima Sudi, Tobi Ogunyemi, and Joanne
Yang.
SECTION II: STATEMENTS
Mission Statement
1. The mission of ISO is to effectively support international students, through the provision of
information and services.
Vision Statement
1. ISO envisions an enriching experience for all international students- current and future.

SECTION III: POLICIES
General Policies
1. ISO should not be used for any purpose that does not support the mission of the organization.
2. ISO shall not be used for any commercial or personal gain without approval of the organization.
3. All International students enrolled at the University of Manitoba and International College of
Manitoba (ICM), regardless of their race, religion, gender, nationality, or age are qualified
members of the organization.
4. The organization agrees to abide to all University of Manitoba and University of Manitoba
Student Union (UMSU) guidelines.
5. ISO and its members must act with Integrity and Respect.
6. External parties (organizations or individuals) must work with ISO in accordance to the rules and
regulations of the organization.
7. ISO Bylaws must be reviewed each caucus.
8. ISO will work the University of Manitoba International Centre to ensure
Executive Policies
1. ISO executives are selected by nomination through winter caucus.
2. ISO executives will serve for a one-year term as their elected position. (May-May)
3. ISO Executives are responsible for maintaining and improving the standard of ISO and its
bylaws.
4. Executives must vote to approve or disapprove amendments to the bylaws.
5. UMSU International Students’ Representative shall hold the executive position of President.
6. Executive meetings must be held once a month during the fall and winter terms.
7. Executives must hold at least one meeting during the Spring/Summer term for strategic planning,
organization development, and effective event planning.
Caucus Policies
1. ISO will hold a caucus (meeting) twice every Fall and Winter terms and once in the
Spring/Summer term.

2. The International Students Caucus:
a. Shall be recognized as a support caucus for international students at the University of
Manitoba.
b. Shall serve as the legislative body for ISO.
c. Shall see UMSU work in accordance to the Bylaws of the International Students Caucus.
3. Caucus is open to all ISO members.
4. Caucus must be held within a safe and respectful environment.
5. Confidential information (any information shared in caucus) should not be shared without the
approval of the caucus.
6. Regarding Caucus:
a. A proxy must be appointed if an executive cannot attend any meeting.
b. Constant absence with no regrets may lead to termination of the executive position.
7. Caucus should be attended by the following:
a. UMSU International Students’ Representative.
b. Faculty International Students’ Representative.
c. ISO Executives
d. The International Transitions Coordinator, International Centre.
SECTION IV: PURPOSE AND GOAL
1. The long term goal for ISO shall be to promote the understanding and positive relationships
among international students at the University of Manitoba.
2. The short term goal for ISO shall be to continuously and consistently develop its platforms and
services in order to achieve the organization's long term goal.

a. To promote cultural diversity and awareness of the international community through
events and activities.
b. Facilitate the medium of interaction among international students from all faculties.
c. To represent and advocate needs for international students in matters of social well-being
and concerns.
SECTION V: EXECUTIVE POSITIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1.President
Chris Otisi
Responsibilities:
● Maintains the operations of the organization and ensures movements towards the goals of the
organization.
● Works with executive members on detail plans for the organization and ensures smooth and
transparent communication among the executive body; the caucus; the members of ISO.
● Presents the plans and solutions to UMSU council.
● Serves as the chair of the Caucus.
● Shall attend Canadian Federation of Students’ (CFS) Annual General Meetings, promoting ISO.
● Serves as the sole spokesperson for ISO.
2.Treasurer
Joanne Yang
Responsibilities:
● Documents all receipts consisting of cash, checks, money orders, credit cards and made
deposits in system.
● Analyzes cost controls and providing timely financial information to support organizational goals.
● Provides constructive resolutions in terms of budget control.
● Performs duties with reasonable discretion as requested by the President.

3. Marketing & Communications Director
Abubakar Ibrahim
Responsibilities:
● Maintains close communication and relationship with international representatives from each
faculty.
● Overseeing social media expansion and effectiveness; promotes all social media platforms to
gain recognition.
● Coordinates each event and oversees emerging issues.
● Shall liaison with external colleges in promotion of the organization.
● Performs duties with reasonable discretion as requested by the President.
4.Secretary
Salima Sudi
Responsibilities:
● Serves as the assistant to the president.
● Serves as the legalities solutionist for the organization.
● Keeps records of meetings and attendance.
● Sets meeting reports effectively prior to every caucus.
● Performs duties with reasonable discretion as requested by the President.
5. Events Coordinator
Tobi Ogunyemi
Responsibilities:
● Increasing traffic to the organization through various strategic methods.
● Create events and seminars that promote the objective of ISO.
● Ensure a profitable event based on turnout.
● Performs duties with reasonable discretion as requested by the President.

Confidentiality - waiver form, provide support to students through linking them up with proper
support system without breaking the personal trust of the student
a. ISO shall protect and conceal all the conversation and information of the social media
users, unless the party states otherwise.
b. ISO will not share any information of students, conversation with students, concerns of
students- without approval.
2. Authenticity
a. All the information that goes through the organization’s social media must be authentic;
clear and precise.
3. Transparency
a. ISO shall make public all caucus unless they are closed caucus.
b. ISO shall make public the current version of all its governing documents.
SECTION VII: UNIQUE PROPOSITION
1. What makes ISO a unique organization is, its effectiveness through its nature of a social media
organization. The idea of utilizing social media to its fullest potential ensures the consistent
approach to the organization model. It has never been seen before, a social media peer-based
organization that seeks to better the process of education for international students. We believe
that with social media, international students remain connected.
