Electronics test is our specialty. Our experienced team of engineers, skilled in precision mechanics, electronic engineering, high frequency solutions, software, and advanced control automation techniques, make the difference in developing innovative solutions and products that can benefit your test engineering department.

We are confident that this catalogue will help you to understand the philosophy of our developments and the advantage they bring for your test-engineering department.

The return of investment of an Automatic Test System built with our modular systems is shortened and guaranteed. Our modular concept is based on standard modules that keep the system flexible and easy to configure. Only a minimum of modules and wiring is needed to configure a tabletop, rack-based or fully in-line test system.

These open and upgradeable test systems are configurable with the products included in this catalogue. They guarantee an easy and inexpensive platform reconfiguration to be able to test any new products that you need to test. The hardware and software standardization is a permanent value allowing an easy and inexpensive adaptability to new requirements.

6TL has implemented an integral quality procedure, based in ISO9001 and TS16949 that includes the product development, the supplier’s selection and homologation, manufacturing process, storage, transportation, and after sales service.

6TL has its own fully equipped EMC Lab, used to calibrate and test our instruments. It allows us to shorten product development and apply continuous improvement. Our involvement in environmental safety is shown by the ISO14000 certification that covers all of our production centers.

The use of CAN bus with distributed intelligence modules offer important advantages in product engineering, integration, maintenance and productivity improvement. The electrical wiring is reduced to a minimum because only one single four-wire cable provides the interconnection between all the devices and modules in the system. Just connect the CAN bus to each module and you can start using them.

Their virtual operation-panels appear in the control display and the modules are ready to be used manually. You only need to deve-lop each test steps and put them in the right test sequence, using LabView or TestStand, to have the system ready to work.

The competitivity increases when reaching the specified technical solution with reduced costs of engineering and implementation. One way to reach the objective is to concentrate the investments in system integration and software development. It is time and cost consuming to re-invent the wheel each time. The products included in this catalogue give the answer to test systems specific require-ments. A skilled team of engineers is continuously improving the modules to provide smarter solutions.

At the end, the proposition is simple: To offer products and solutions “from the shelf”, fully technically supported and documented at published prices, avoiding the ATE integrators to build special devices and components that can be found as standard modules in our catalogue.

The availability of a fast specialized technical support, independently of the geographical situation of the customer’s location, provides an additional high value to the product.

The confidence in the fact that any problem will be dealt with by a team of skilled and experienced engineers allows our customers to face complex test solutions and improve their own technological capabilities. You only need to provide and internet connection and secured IP address to provide a direct connection to your test platforms. An additional voice connection in combination with the remote control of the test system makes debugging the error or problem cost efficient and quick.

6TL offers a training program on ATE testing techniques that cover all topics of product testability and test. As most Test Projects, including Maintenance, includes special designs like Image Analysis (Vision applications) and High Frequencies up to GHz range, the course structure and its content is focused to transfer as much knowledge to the attendees as possible, based on customer requirements.

All is presented in a training agenda which includes, at the end of each course, a certificate for the engineer to prove that he has fulfilled the targets set for each training course. The course agenda includes hands-on sessions with all related devices. All training courses will be in English and given at the 6TL facilities in Spain. If requested, some of the courses provided can also be given at customer’s site. (Please contact us for more information.)

6tl-22 Platform is a perfect basis for an automatic integrated Test System for low to medium manufacturing volumes. Important technical and economical advantages due to its modular structure and expansion capability are evident. The System Control and Automation is based on CAN bus. One single four-wire cable provides power to and control all the devices. The system is simple, easy to maintain and cost effective.

It includes an industrial PC Controller and UPS that controls all steps for automatic error free power-up and down of the test system. To start working with the Test System during production it is not needed to have any know-how of the Windows operating system or any additional test system knowledge. After Switching ON the power, the System automatically initializes the test system and starts the test software. Then it identifies the attached test

fixture and automatically selects the adequate executive software that matches the connected test fixture. The Controller has 6 free slots to install additional PCI cards.

Different test fixtures can be used to test PCB’s or assembled products. For testing PCB’s, there is a choice of standard fixture platforms including their own linear pushing system, or alterna-tively a low cost fixture solution using our automatic precision servo pusher module with three pre-set test position levels for HiPot test, Functional Test and ICT test using different lengths of test probes. Test Instruments may be selected in PCI format (6 free PCI slots are available in the PC Controller), PXI format after installing an optional 5 to 18 slots PXI chassis, or any other LXI, VXI or other Rack & Stack type of instrumentation.

When joining three 6tl-32 modules, you get up to 6 test stations, allowing a large number pf different test configurations in a high throughput production environment.

This system is highly versatile with a quick test fixture change over system, based on a VPC mass interconnect interface with 25 modules, allowing to setup mult iple test station combinations and getting an optimal throughput performan-ce when high volume production rates are required. Every 6tl-32 module can have a dual dwell fixture, providing a cost effective line-up solution to up to 6 stations, that can be balanced to perform all test phases required by the DUT.

Example 1: Using three identical dual dwell fixtures for a complete test of 20 sec, a production rate of 720 units per hour can be achieved, with the advantage that all the fixtures are identical.

Example 2: Using three dual dwell fixtures, where the first station will perform an in-circuit test, and software loading. The second station will perform a functional test. Considering a total test cycle of 55 sec. per DUT (Software loading + Functional Test), a pro-duction rate of 180 units per hour can be reached. Using only one station module (1 Fixture), the maximum production rate will be 60 units per hour.

The CHT-1 test system is developped to find quickly and accurately failures in cable wires and connections before causing costly damages causing delays in the installation of assemblies. The CHT-1 cable tester measures individual wire resistance, shorts, opens and diode values of a “golden” cable harness, saving the results as a refference. The stored “golden” data is then used to be compared with the test results of an identical cable harness, resulting in a GO, NOGO test result.

A large number of refference files can be saved (only limited by the PC Controller HD capacity). Test results are saved for later evaluation and reporting. Test reports and cable harness labels including serial number and bar codes can be printed.

Cable test adapters are easily configurable for all cable test needs. Each test adapter uses a VPC TriPaddle high performance connectors capable to more than 20.000 insertion cycles without loss of signal quality.

CHT-1 needs an external PC with NI CAN bus interface and Windows XP installed. USB-CAN, PCI-CAN, PXI-CAN or PC Card CAN bus adapters may be used to connect to the CHT-1.

Hipot test option includes a switching sub-system up to 3.000V, a true RMS DMM and a programmable HV power supply up to 1.500VDC (optional to 3.000VDC). The HV power supply includes a protection circuit that blocks the output voltage when detecting an output current higher than a preseted value (tpically 10 mA).

Up to 8 CHT-1 units can be joined together using the CAN bus interconnection to create a modular test system for high density cables.CHT-1 includes a robust control panel with navigation controls, test START/STOP push buttons, display, and validation push button. LEDs for status indication (NO PASS, PASS, TESTING and HIPOT). The test cycle end is displayed with optical indication and sound, showing if the result is OK or NOT OK.

DUT areas: 450x450 or 500x650 mm

Our precision servo pusher H7100 6000 is the recommended solution for PCB test systems combining Functional, In-Circuit and Hipot Tests in one fixture.

The servo pusher is available as a 19” Rack autonomous module, including all drive, control and safety components, for easy integration in automatic test systems using standard Mass Interconnection Receivers.

Includes a servo motor with numerical control driving a precision gearbox, and two robust linear guides for pusher frame travel. The pusher system is powered by a standard 230/240VAC mains socket and communicates with the host computer by means of a 4 contact connector for two wire CAN bus and 24VDC electronics control supply, at the back of the pusher cabinet.

In test applications that require a combination of test strategies like

HiPot measurements, the pusher moves to upper position so only long travel test probes will contact the DUT. After a pass of the HiPot test the pusher moves down to the in-circuit test where Long, medium and standard travel probes make contact to the DUT. After the in-circuit test the pusher system moves up 4mm so only the medium and long travel probes contact the DUT for functional testing.

A virtual Operation panel provided with the system can be used to operate the pusher during installation, debugging and maintenance of the test platform. There are two pushers plate frames available to support different DUT lengths: 450 to 650 mm.

3.5 Platform Power Management & MMI 7300.0300

FeaturesTest platform power management unit. Outpus for direct power bus and for switched power bus.Operator interface for test selection, test start and test stop. Power ON, Emergency Stop and safety series chain circuit of test platform. CAN bus isolation active circuit up to 1500V Pre-installation for a 24 V 2,5 A auxiliary power supply.19” 2U Instrument

The Power Management and Operator Interface Unit (MMI) model H7300 0300 integrates all the power management functions and includes an active CAN bus with 1500 V isolation circuit that reduces the risc of failures due to DUT electrical noise and EMI. Mains power line supplies the direct power bus through a two pole line breaker and the switched power bus trough a power contactor, drived by the Power ON and Emergency STOP push buttons.

The switched power bus supplies energy to the DUT and to related power supplies. The direct power bus supplies energy to PC Controller, Measurement Instruments and switching cards through a UPS unit.

This configuration allows a controlled Power ON and Power Off sequences, even in case of Mains power failures or Test Platform safety serial breaks. In this case the DUT becomes unpowered, but the rest of platform devices still remain powered thanks to the UPS output and makes a controlled power off sequence.

The Operator Interface allows the selection of related Test Software for each DUT and the Test Start/Stop push button activation. There is room to install a 24 V DC 2,5 A power power into the Unit, to supply external test platform devices.

Single Phase Mains Power Manager H7300 0201, provide galvanic isolation Mains Voltage Out to protect DUTs, and allows a soft power-up protecting DUTs, fixtures and switching relays contacts against transient currents.

The start-up mains output connection is done trough a network of serial power resistors. The selection of resistor value depends on maximum DUT nominal power input. The internal isolated mains power transformer has a floating monitoring winding (Sense) whose output has to reach a refference value in a preseted time, otherwise the process is aborted. If the expected Sense value is reached the serial resistors are shorted by relays and the DUT is directly connected to flying mains power output and the test sequence continues.

This unit protects the Test Platform against DUT failures (shorts, isolation defects, inverted or less voltage electrolitic capacitors, etc.) avoiding the damages on the mass connection contacts due to transient currents.

The values of limiting current resistors are: 62, 125, 250 y 500 Ohm, that gives maximum short circuit current values of 0,46 A to 3,70 A for a nominal output voltage of 230 V

An interesting application is for Repair Stations Mains Power Supply Protection where you can easely face devices with electrical input components damaged (Varistors, rectifiers, capacitors, etc.)

6.1 YAV’s The truly advanced way

6. YAV BOARDS AND MODULES

The use of YAV boards and modules provide a real technical, economical and logistic advantage against all other classic instrumentation solutions. YAV Boards are the solution for typical practical problems that occur while designing test platforms.

They provide a considerably test system performance increase. The minimal amount of connections and wiring length reduction maintain the best quality and integrity of the signals and provide a short assembly and wiring time.

Being a combination of hardware modules and software drivers, the implementation of the YAV boards in your test system is very fast. When connected, the YAV boards are immediately operative. YAV Boards make your test system very flexible, re-configurable, easy to expand and maintain. Each board can work independently form the tester so you can just plug each of them directly into the ITA of a fixture to start debugging the software without the need of using the test platform. While the tester is being used to test electronics you have the advantage to debug or build any new configuration in a few minutes.

Economically the advantages are evident: engineering, Project documentation & software development are reduced. Space requirement and the number of components are also reduced; the minimal wiring needed makes integration extremely simple and fast, saving valuable time and money.

Can bus control has a big advantage; it provides all the control and power supply signals to power the YAV Boards in just 4 wires. Therefore the modules can be mounted in any part of the test system or test fixture. The Can bus transmission speed might be lower than the one available in parallel busses, but it is at least 100 times faster then the speed needed to control all the available functions in each of our YAV modules.

6.1.7 Multifunction board with 80 in/out YAV90832

YAV90832 inputs and outputs are sharing the common of the 24Vdc power supply. This common must be connected to the DUTs common.

Analog inputs accept up to +30V voltages with an acquisition resolution of 10 bits +1. They are protected up to +50V.

Digital inputs are organized in groups of 8, conforming banks. The first bank has 16 inputs while a second one has 8 inputs. Each bank has a terminal to set the trigger level. The board has two reference outputs (+2,5V and +5V) to be used as trigger level, in a direct manner or through a voltage divider.

Digital Outputs are organized in groups of 8. Each group has an independent supply voltage pin. They can work from +11VDC

to +45VDC, sourcing up to 600mA. Failure monitoring for each group is available.

6 outputs can be used either as powered digital outputs (from terminal 89 to terminal 96) or as modulated outputs: additional four analog ports (from 57 to 60) and four PWM ports (from 61 to 64) are available. When modulated outputs are being used (analog or PWM), the logical status of the digital outputs will be a squared wave which is ON time proportional to the value of that modulated output.

Digital inputs 21-23 and 22-24 can be set as incremental encoder inputs (two channel 90º quadrature, up to 1MHz)

7.3 Sound harmonics and current analyzer

This analyzer is used as end of line control for electro mechanic components with electric motors, with or without mechanical reduction. While the motor is running at nominal speed, a spectrum and temporal analysis of the sound as well as a current consumption test is performed. Statistical analysis of the data acquired is also performed real-time, expediting the PASS/FAIL decision of the DUT.

When the environmental noise of the production line can

disturb the data acquisition, an isolation chamber with enough attenuation is mandatory. Attenuation level depend either on the expected noise level of the DUT or on the environmental noise level.

The module features Ethernet port for automatic result data transmission through FTP. When there’s no Ethernet connection available, a USB port can be used to store the result data to an external HDD.

“Open Test Platforms” are designed and documented to enable test engineers to test any DUT that fits with its features. In an “Open Test Platform”, we can add a new instrument with the only additional engineering effort being documenting this new resource into the system. “Customized Test Platforms” are based on the design done by the test engineer, but all this design work is only done for this particular DUT.

A fixture solution with pusher plate is ideal to guarantee uniformity when pushing the PCB down onto the bed of nails. This prevents PCB deformation and component stress. Disadvantage might be that the top side of the PCB is no longer accessible for inspection, debug or vision applications. For this we might need to switch to vacuum actuated fixtures or solutions that push the PCB down only from the side, leaving the top of the PCB free.

Installation of special boards or calibrated units for a certain DUT inside the fixture has a lot of advantages like: Fixture easier to test, calibrate or repair outside the test system More free contacts in the ITA and RCV between fixture and test system Less wiring lengthAs a disadvantages you may consider: The devices integrated into the fixture not can be shared in other tests You may need to set-up a complicated calibration plan

The proposed sub-system pretends to standardize all platforms, In this way we can guarantee compatibility of programs and fixtures installed on different test machines. There is no problem to do a different configuration in one system, but you must be aware that you might loose the compatibility between test platforms.

The easiest way to proceed is to integrate a new 19” cabinet next to the platform and join instrumentation through a wiring cannel. This option might introduce additional noise to signals due to wiring the extra length and makes the whole testing platform less portable. Another option would be to add frame extensions to the platform frame. With this option, portability will be kept and noise will be kept within boundaries and will not be a real problem.

The concept is that we include in our systems all the components that will be needed to perform the optimal test. Inside the fixture we will place only the specific components belonging to that specific DUT. This makes all connections easier, less wires, and it is not necessary to modify the drawings of the system each time that the test requirements need special devices.

12.1 Test Platform configuration

12.2 Fixture

What is the difference between “Open Test Platforms” and “Customized Testing Platforms”?

What are the differences between PCB fixtures with pusher plate and PCB fixtures with pneumatic grippers?

Which are the advantages and disadvantages of adding special boards inside the fixture?

Can we configure the sub-system in a different way than proposed?

How can I get more 19” space in my Open testing platform?

Why distributed control with Can modules and electro valves instead of centralized?

12.3 Hipot test

12.4 YAV boards

You can use a hipot test to make sure you have good isolation between the parts of a circuit. Having good isolation helps to guarantee the safety and quality of electrical circuits. Hipot tests are helpful in finding nicked or crushed insulation, left wire strands or braided shielding, conductive or corrosive contaminants around the conductors, terminal spacing problems, and tolerance errors in IDC cables. All of these conditions might cause a device to fail.

Since YAV boards are CAN bus controlled and require only four wires, 2x for Can Bus and two for the 24V supply, wiring is minimal. You can therefore easily integrate them in your own system or use them as stand alone instrument. The general requirements to control YAV board are a PC with a CAN bus port. All the software has been developed for National Instruments CAN interfaces devices. Other CAN interfaces are under investigation and will be at customer’s responsibility.

All the software has been developed for National Instruments CAN interfaces devices. Other CAN interfaces are under investigation and will be at customer’s responsibility.

The calibration procedures are detailed in the thechnical manual of each board. 6tl offers a complete calibration service.

The YAV boards are provided with an executable that allows the user to work with the YAV boards in manual operation, no programming is needed. In addition, to integrate the boards in your automatic test system Labview® Development License is required.

The Phi6® software platform includes all the YAV’s boards VI’s, soft panels and simplifies the start up and operation. Phi6 software is not needed as you can always program the boards directly with the table instructions and commands over the CAN bus.

No. LabView® and TestStand® are the most popular and friendly way to develop test programs, but you can also work with other languages, using the instructions and com-mands table over the CAN bus

The foot print and the fixing holes of the YAV modules are compatible with two module positions of the Series 90 VPC connectors. This allows you to fix the YAV modules onto the standard hole pattern in the fixture box or in the case of free slots in the ITA frame directly onto the frame.
