The month of June in the WVNG coincides with Camp Conley. This is a week-long youth camp that began
in 1991 and gives the children an opportunity to experience a sliver of military life, which their parent(s) have
endured over the years. The youth camp was created so the kids could relate to the parents of WVNG members
that were deployed to Iraq in the early 90’s. This year, Camp Conley will run from 23-28 June at Camp Dawson and
the training schedule is filled with a robust list of events. You will still see some of the main events the children
look forward to tackling such as: rappelling, marksmanship range, and swimming to name a few. Some new events
will include fishing, constructing and maneuvering over a rope bridge across the lake. The campers will be divided
into six different teams to accomplish the daily events. The youth will bond with each other and the counselors that
will have a lasting effect for many years.
There are several organizations, agencies, and volunteers across the state of WV that support and
help make this event a huge success. The amount of volunteer hours that go into the planning and execution of this
event is staggering. The planning process begins immediately after the event for the next year. The kids are in-
formed of the dates of the next year camp prior to departing with their parents. Camp Conley is a unique experi-
ence for military kids and a great time by everyone involved.

Operation Transportation Did you know that Mid Ohio Valley Transit Authority provides “FREE” monthly bus
passes to veterans? Operation Transportation was created in December of 2017 by Joining Community
Partners, Jan Dils, and MOVTA (Easy Rider) when at a monthly meeting we discussed one of the issues our veterans face in the area and voted that transportation to jobs,
doctor appointments, and just daily errands was a roadblock. The bus pass is for the EASY RIDER bus routes. For more information on how to obtain please stop in to the
main bus terminal at 520 Juliana Street Parkersburg Monday – Friday 0830 – 1630 to fill out application – just need copy of DD214 with picture ID, DOD issued ID, or a picture VA ID to receive your pass today.
You can visit the website to look at bus routes and hours of operation at http://easyriderbus.com/

Education is not just for the young. It is also for the young at heart. In fact, lifelong learning provides many
health benefits. According to Dr. Romeo Vitelli, continuing to learn and stay active mentally reduces cognitive decline as we age. Keeping your mind active assists with fighting depression, lowers stress, and helps to main-
tain a positive self-image. Continuing to learn is not limited to a formal classroom. However, you can find classes and engaging activities
at your local college or university. Two examples are the OSHER Lifelong Learning Institute at West Virginia
University and the Lifelong Learning Program at Marshall University. Churches, civic groups, and craft/hobby stores also offer many occasions to engage in educational opportunities.
Simply stated... lifelong learning is a lifestyle choice that can provide extraordinary benefits.

Aspen Dental’s Day of Service
Since 2014, dentists and their teams from Aspen Dental practices across the country have provided free care to more
than 20,000 veterans and people in need.
Why did they do it? Nearly 150 million Americans didn’t go to the dentist last
year. Millions more live in places where there is little or no access to care.
Other barriers get in the way too—like cost, lack of insurances, and fear. This
is especially challenging for the majority of US veterans as they are not eligible
for dental benefits through the Veterans Administration unless they are 100%
disabled, have a service-related mouth injury or were a prisoner of war.
On one special day every year, hundreds of Aspen Dental practices across the country open their doors exclusively to
veterans and provide dental care at no cost. The goal of Day of Service is to relieve patients' pain, make them aware of
what other dental needs they have, and connect them to free or low-cost resources so they can continue to address
their dental care needs long-term. In 2018, over 4,300 veterans received services on that one day.
This years event details:
When: Saturday 8June 9am-3pm
Where: Participating Aspen Dental practices (call 844-ASPEN-HMM to find a location near you)
How: Appointments are required. Call 844-ASPEN-HMM starting 1May to make an appointment
TRICARE—Health Benefits Advisors
Tricare Extends Window for Choosing Coverage After Retirement
When you retire from active duty or turn age 60 as a retired reserve member, your TRICARE coverage changes. After either of these Qualifying Life Events(QLEs), you
must take action and enroll in a TRICARE retiree health plan so that you and your family members don’t have a gap in your TRICARE coverage after retirement. Typically,
you have up to 90 days after your retirement date to enroll in a TRICARE plan as a retiree. If you don’t, you and your family members will only be able to get care at a
military hospital or clinic if space is available. Each service is responsible for updating the Defense Enrollment Eligibility Reporting System (DEERS) with your retirement
date.
Until that date is posted to DEERS, you can’t enroll in a retiree TRICARE plan. In some cases, the retirement date doesn’t show up in DEERS until days or even
months after you’ve retired. For the time being, the Defense Health Agency (DHA) is allowing retiring members and their eligible family members up to 12
months from their retirement date, or turning age 60 (for retired reserve members).
“This 12-month period is longer than the standard QLE period of 90 days,” said Mark Ellis, TRICARE Select Program Manager, DHA. “This allows plenty of time to update
DEERS and enroll in a TRICARE health plan as our new retirees adjust to civilian life.”
Coverage must begin effective the day after you ended your previous TRICARE coverage, and any TRICARE enrollment fees must be paid retroactive to that date.
Continuing TRICARE health care coverage isn’t automatic following these QLEs. If you don’t enroll in a plan after retiring from active duty or turning age 60, you’ll lose
TRICARE coverage and only be able to receive care at military hospitals and clinics if space is available. After the 12-month period, you may only enroll in or make changes
to your health plan during the annual TRICARE Open Season or following another QLE.
You’ll need to make sure you update your and your family’s information in DEERS. You and your family members will also need new identification cards upon the sponsor’s
status change. No matter when you enroll within the 12-month period, coverage begins on the first day of your retirement and you must pay all enrollment fees back to
that date.
Retiring from Active Duty
If you’re retiring from active duty, you previously paid nothing out of pocket and your family’s costs were minimal (if covered under TRICARE Select). As a retiree, you’ll
now pay retiree costs for care. Depending on the retiree TRICARE health plan you choose, you may see an increase in your enrollment fees, deductibles, copayments, cost
-shares, and other fees.
Retired Reservists Turning Age 60
If you’re a retired reserve member who turns age 60 and were enrolled in TRICARE Retired Reserve (TRR), your TRR coverage ends the day you turn age 60 and become
eligible for TRICARE Prime Remote or TRICARE Select coverage. You must have your retirement fully completed with your service personnel office or command. This
means your retirement pay is processed and activated with the Defense Finance and Accounting Services.
To confirm your retired status is properly reflected in DEERS, visit https://www.dmdc.osd.mil/milconnect or call the DEERS Support Office (1-800-538-9552). Once
DEERS is accurate, enroll in a TRICARE health plan based on your residence within 12 months from your 60th birthday. As a retiree, you’ll pay retiree costs such as enroll-
ment fees, deductibles, copayments, and cost-shares.
Dental and Vision Options
Retiring service members and their eligible family members have the option to enroll in the Federal Employees Dental and Vision Insurance Program (FEDVIP). You don’t
have to be enrolled in a TRICARE retiree health plan to purchase dental coverage. However, you must be enrolled in a TRICARE health plan to potentially qualify to pur-
chase vision coverage through FEDVIP. For more information about FEDVIP and to check your eligibility, visit the FEDVIP website.
How to Find the Budgeting App That’s Right for You
Today’s savvy budgeters have access to more apps and technology than ever before, all of which promise to make budgeting a breeze.
You’ve vowed to get your finances in order. That’s a great first step, but today’s savvy budgeters have access to more apps and tech-
nology than ever before, all of which promise to make budgeting a breeze. With so many options, it’s no surprise that it may take some
time to find one that is perfect for you. When you’re deciding which app to use, first determine your priorities: Are you hoping to make
changes immediately, or just be more mindful of your spending? Are you willing to dedicate time each week to overseeing your budget?
Are you someone who is motivated by having lots of information, or do you prefer to just consider the big picture?
Once you’ve given these issues some thought, it’s time to test out two or three tools to see how
they meet your needs. Here are a few to
get you started.
IF YOU’RE SERIOUS ABOUT BUDGETING
If you’re ready to make big changes, prompted by knowing exactly where your finances stand, You Need A Budget (YNAB) is a great place to start. This tool touts “total con-
trol of your money,” and that’s exactly what it provides. YNAB is a zero-based budget system, where every dollar is assigned to a category, meaning that you have zero dol-
lars that have no assigned purpose (although you can make categories for fun money and other spending). The ultimate goal of using YNAB is to break the paycheck-to-
paycheck cycle by tucking away extra money until you are living entirely on last month’s income. Although it takes a few months to get to that point, the stress relief of know-
ing that your expenses are covered ahead of time is refreshing. YNAB is a bit complex, so to get the most out of it, you’ll have to dedicate some time to learning how to navi-
gate it, and then you will be able to evaluate your spending habits. The developer even offers free workshops and classes aimed at teaching you the ropes, so be ready to
delve in if you decide this is the app for you. On the downside, YNAB doesn’t offer any tools to track your investment portfolios. It’s purely focused on your income and ex-
penditures. You Need a Budget offers a 34-day trial and costs $50 per year after that.
IF YOU JUST NEED TO GET ORGANIZED:
Maybe you’re not quite ready to know every detail of your finances, but you want to become more organized about paying bills and keeping track of your money. In that case,
Mint is the app for you. It’s one of the most well-known budgeting apps and for good reason. Mint allows you to link and display all your accounts — from bank accounts to
credit cards and even investments. If you need a little extra guidance, the app will give you bill reminders and notifications when your payments are due. It will also alert you
when your account balances are low, helping you avoid dreaded overdraft fees. Once you’re ready to budget, Mint makes it easy by suggesting a few starting budgets based
on your spending. From there, you can adjust the categories and amounts, getting as in depth (or as basic) as you would like. Best of all, Mint is free.
IF YOU’RE A LITTLE OLD-FASHIONED:
Did you once use a stack of envelopes filled with cash to get your spending under control? If so, you’ll be pleased to know the same option exists in the digital age. Mvelopes
allows you to create digital “envelopes,” allotting a certain amount of money to each spending category. The app tracks expenses from your linked accounts (although there
is also a manual entry option) so that you can see how much you’re spending on categories like food or entertainment — and how much you have left. Mvelopes also encour-
ages users to direct the money saved through budgeting toward paying down debt. By better managing your money and not spending more than is in your envelope, this tool
is great at helping you rediscover funds that can be used to pay off debt. And who doesn’t want that? Mvelopes offers various levels, ranging from a free basic version to a
coaching version that includes one-on-one monthly sessions, which of course will cost you.
IF YOU’RE READY TO INVEST IN YOUR FUTURE:
Maybe you already have a good hold on budgeting and debt payment, and you’re ready to start investing in your future. In that case, Personal Capital is a great option that
allows you to manage your investments and work toward building wealth. This tool allows you to see your net worth over time and to analyze your investment portfolio. It
provides clear information about important details like how much you are paying in fees, which of your investments are performing the best, and how your investments
measure up to optimal assets class balances. It also has a great retirement planner, so you can be at ease with your future finances. And, like Mint, it also lets you do more
basic financial management, like viewing income reports and tracking spending by categories. Viewing your analytics is free. To use the app’s automated investing services,
Personal Capital charges between 0.49 to 0.89 percent in asset management fees, and it requires a $25,000 minimum balance.

7 Job Search Statistics You Should Know
Searching for a job can be one of the most frustrating, challenging things you’ll ever experience. Whether you’re looking to
make a career change, you’re straight out of college, or anywhere in between, the job search brings about the same head-
aches for all of us.
Finding the right formula to help you land that perfect job can be quite a conundrum. No matter how frustrating the pro-
cess becomes, don’t lose hope. These seven job-search statistics will help shed a little light on why the process is so diffi-
cult and give you some insight into how you can make the experience easier.
1) 80 percent of jobs are not posted online
- Go directly to the websites of the companies you want to work for. Do some digging and find some higher
level employees to contact. Do not send your resume immediately, instead, strike up a conversation
2) More than half of candidates are eliminated from the
online job search by applicant tracking systems
- It is critical that you have a high value resume that
highlights your most valuable skills, but leaves room
for adjustments
3) Why 73 percent of companies have used social media
to successfully recruit and hire a candidate
- Make sure you represent yourself appropriately
across all channels on which you’re active
4) 70 percent of employers say they’ve turned down
candidates because of something negative they found
online
- If it is questionable, sensitive, or offensive, don’t post it
5) Only about five applicants actually earn an interview from hundreds of applications
- Applying to more jobs, you increase your chances, but don’t apply to a job just to increase your chances.
6) More than half of people who are currently employed are considering a new job
- Keep in mind that you aren’t only competing with those without jobs
7) Referrals account for around a third of all external hires
- A solid referral can significantly cut down on the number of resumes you need to send out in order to land
that job
