Andile Nqandela has a B-Tech Qualification in Mechanical Engineering and has worked in the engineering departments of Anglo platinum mines, SABS, Wabco and Eskom. He has over 13 years’ experience as an Engineer working on various mechanical systems and products with strong interest on fluid conveyance systems such as compressors, pumps, pipelines, fluid filtration systems, valves, etc.

He is good at Quality Management Systems, and contract management. His key responsibilities are to ensure the company achieves its vision, there is compliance to statutory regulations, gives leadership to the team, technical expertise and ensures profitability. He also holds NQF level 7 in Management development programme and continues to develop himself in studies that helps him improve both personal and business efficiency through Raizcorp prosperator programme.

He sits on the Exco of Middelburg Chamber of commerce and industries and has participated in various industry and stakeholders forums pertaining to the valve industry and economic development.

Valve Refurbishment

Brimis Engineering has both the capacity and expertise as a Valve Overhaul and General Engineering Company. We have acquired a wealth of experience in overhauling every type of industrial valve from every area of Industrial and commercial installation.

Our processes include meticulously stripping all valve components to their basic form, cleaning by suitable methods, and thereafter inspecting to ensure that they are within manufacturers tolerance to be put back into service in the valve. Any worn out or damaged parts are replaced.

Flange faces are carefully inspected for damage and machined if required. Seat and Disc faces are machined if required and then lapped to ensure a perfect seal. All packing and gaskets are replaced with material suitable for the application. Valves are then assembled, pressure tested and painted in accordance with our clients’ requirements and specifications.

Our clients demand quality, flexibility, availability and cost savings to name a few. At Brimis Engineering, we strive to meet these challenges as we have made valve repair and valve reconditioning our specialty and have developed systems of operation that have proven effective over the years.


Repair & Maintenance

Valves are a key component to the efficient operation of most industrial processes and promote product quality and a company’s responsibility to the environment. They provide a safe operating environment plus provide safety protection in an emergency. Valves are expected to perform instantly and perfectly every time they are needed. This implies that a worn-out, faulty or leaking valve could result in costs that are far more than the price of buying a new replacement.

At Brimis Engineering, we are fully equipped to repair and recondition most major industrial valve brands, types and sizes, including safety valves, using skills and experience acquired over many years.

Our workshop is fully equipped with turning, boring, milling, drilling and welding machinery, lifting equipment, short-blasting and painting facilities. We also offer valve lapping and testing equipment.

We also offer a mobile facility which can carry out safety valve testing, overhaul and certification, thus reducing downtime and in most cases eliminate the need to send valves off site to the service centre. We can offer supply of all types of new, repaired or refurbished industrial valves. All reconditioned valves are tested to national standards.

Valve Pressure Testing Services

ASME B16.34, Valves – Flanged, Threaded and Welding End: This is the most widely used valve design standard. It contains charts that identify the working pressures used in conjunction with other test standards, such as API 598. ASME B16.34 contains test methods, but does not define allowable seat leakage.


API 598, Valve Inspection and Test: This is the most widely used test specification in the world. It covers many types of valves, but was developed primarily for consideration of isolation valves. The standard includes leakage rates and testing criteria for both metal-seated and resilient-seated valves.

Our test procedures have been developed based on the following global standards:

From the large to the smallest valves, we are well equipped for pressure testing in-house and onsite. With high technology testing machines, our full time testing technicians can quickly and correctly test virtually any valve type, pressure class or end configuration.

Our full line of hydrostatic testing systems perform both hydrostatic and pneumatic testing on Flanged Valves, Socket Weld Valves, Butt Welded Valves, Female Threaded Valves and Special Ended Valves. Our systems have been designed to test Gate, Globe, Check, Plug, Ball, Needle, Butterfly, Control, Safety Relief Valves and special valves, fittings and pipe.

We do these test to confirm that a repair or refurbishment was done correctly whether done by us or any other valve refurbishment company.


ISO 5208, Industrial Valves, Pressure Testing of Valves: This is ISO’s primary valve test standard, and covers many types of valves. It has 10 levels of allowable internal leakage, and the acceptance criteria is to be negotiated between the purchaser and manufacturer.

ASNI FCI 70-2, Control Valve Seat Leakage: This contains detailed test procedures and leakage rate classes for control valves. ISA S75, Hydrostatic Testing of Control Valves: This provides a procedure for external testing of control valves.
