    BYELAWS

       The following shall be the Byelaws of the Institute, until and unless suchtimes as the some shall be modied, altered or added in the manner

    hereafter prescribed.1. INTERPRETATION:

    In these Bye-Laws unless there is something in the subject or contextinconsistent therewith“THE INSTITUTE” shall mean the Indian Institute of !rchitects.“THE COUNClIL” shall mean members elected from time to time, whichinclude the "resident, Two #ice-"residents, the $onorary Treasurer, and

    two or more %t. $onorary &ecretaries, being the o'ce-bearers, and othermembers. This shall also include the Immediate "ast-"resident. (exo'cio member), and the *hairmen of the *hapters. .

      “BYE-LAWS” shall mean these Bye-Laws and such other Bye-laws asshall, for the time-being, be in force.

      “MEMBERS OF THE INSTITUTE" means any person who has beenadmitted to the +embership of the Institute, whether a ellow,

    !ssociate, Licentiate, or $on. +ember, all of whom may hereafter bereferring to as +embers. The Institute may also hae attached to it&tudents and &ubscribers who shall not be entitled to the priileges of+embership except as dened in the Bye-Laws.“STATE OR UNION TERRITORY" shall mean a &tate or nion Territorywithin the /epublic of India.

    . HEAD!UARTERS:  The $ead0uarters of the Institute shall be situated in B#$%&. The

    $ead0uarters may be shifted to any other place as may be decided byt'())-*+(,' majority of members oting by ballot.

    . REGISTRATION:

      !ny person who at the time of the formation of this Institute is an!ssociate +ember of the Bombay !rchitectural !ssociation, andpossesses the 0ualication which entitles him under the *onstitution tobecome either a ellow or on !ssociate of the Indian Institute of!rchitects shall be registered as such on signing the necessarydeclaration form.

    /. CLASSES OF MEMBERS:

      0% FELLOWS:  1ery candidate for election as a ellow of the Institute shall hae

    attained the age of thirty-six years and shall be elected if  $e is an associate of the Institute and has been engaged as a "rincipal

    for at least seen successie years in the practice of architecture after0ualifying as an associate. 2/

      $e has been a fellow of an !rchitectural Institution recogni3ed by the

    council from time to time. 2/  $e is an associate of the institute who has been engaged in a

    responsible capacity as the head of a 4epartment of !rchitecture for aperiod of 5 years after 0ualifying as an !ssociate. 2/

      $e has been engaged in a professional actiity in a responsible positionfor a period of at least 67 years , and has, in the opinion of the *ouncilmade a signicant contribution in some capacity to the adancement of!rchitecture.

    ($ ASSOCIATES:  1ery candidate for the election as an !ssociate shall be at least 86

    years of age and shall be elected if  he has been an ordinary member of the Bombay !rchitectural

    !ssociation at the time of formation of the Indian Institute of !rchitects.2/

      he has passed the examination of the Institute at least one year afterpassing the 0ualifying examination if any recogni3ed by the Institute.2/

      he has passed the 9oernment of Bombay !danced 1xamination in!rchitecture between the years of 6:;: and 6:88. 2/

      $e has passed the examination of the Institute at least one year after0ualifying from Institutions recogni3ed by the Institute for exemption

    from the 0ualifying examination of the Institute.02 LICENTIATES:  ! licentiate shall be at least en a special interest in !rchitecture,and who by means of either his position or his experience in mattersrelating to !rchitecture appears to the *ouncil to be able to renderassistance in promoting the objects of the Institute. This election is notsubject to the acceptance of the 9eneral Body.

    4. STUDENTS

      &tudents shall be persons studying architecture with a iew to enter theprofession of !rchitecture and shall be studying in an architecturalinstitute approed by the council.

    5. SUBSCRIBERS

      ! subscriber shall be either a person who was a member of the Bombay

    !rchitectural !ssociation at the time of adoption of the original*onstitution of the Institute, now amended or a person who in the opinionof the *ouncil is li>ely to render assistance in promoting the objects of theInstitute.

    6. RETIRED MEMBERS

      !ny fellow, !ssociate or Licentiate who has reached the age of ??, andhas retired from practice may, if he so desires subject to the approal ofthe *ouncil, be transferred without election to the *lass of @/etired

    ellow@, @/etired !ssociate@, or @/etired licentiate@, as the case may be,but in such case his Interest on, or claim against "roperty of the Instituteshall cease. ! @/etired ellow@, @/etired !ssociate@, or @/etired licentiate@shall not engage in any ocation, which in the opinion of the *ouncil isinconsistent with that of !rchitecture.

      /etired +embers desirous of resuming "ractice shall inform the *ounciland pay the actie +embers= subscription from that date onwards.

    7. ELECTION OF MEMBERS8 STUDENTS AND SUBSCRIBERS  0% FELLOWS:

      !ny person 0ualied under Byelaw 7(a) and desirous of becoming aellow, shall forward his application to the *ouncil on the prescribed form,duly endorsed by three ellows of the Institute, and accompanied by theform of, 4eclaration, the prescribed 1ntrance ee, and the =current year=s&ubscription, which amounts will be returned in case of non election.

    03 STUDENTS  !ny person 0ualied under B&)- L%9 4, and desirous of becoming a

    student member shall forward his application to &tudent *ounselor ofthe Institute on the prescribed form, duly endorsed by two +embers

    of the Institute and accompanied by the current year=s &ubscription,which will be returned in case of non-election.

    0) SUBSCRIBERS  !ny person 0ualied under B&)-L%9 N.5 and desirous of becoming

    a &ubscriber shall forward his application to the *ouncil, dulyendorsed by one ellow and two !ssociates of the Institute, andaccompanied by the prescribed 1ntrance ee and the current year=s

    &ubscription, which amounts will be returned in case of non election.

    . DECLARATION TO ACCOMPANY APPLICATION  1ach application for ellowship, !ssociate ship and Licentiateship shall

    be accompanied by the 4eclaration.  That the applicant will be generally );, ( ()?)2, any proposalfor membership without assigning reason. Ao unsuccessful candidatefor election as a member, or for transfer from one class to another,shall be proposed for election or transfer a second time within a periodof ,9)l) #;,' thereafter.

    11. ENTRANCE FEES AND SUBSCRIPTION FOR FELLOWS.

      1ntrance fee of each fellow shall be rupees )); '+;3()3 *,& only andannual subscription rupees = '+;3()3 only as proided in bye laws.

      !ssociate member may pay sum of (+>)) ,'()) ,'+%;3 ;l&, as onetime subscription.

    1.ENTRANCE FEES AND SUBSCRIPTION FOR LICENTIATES ANDSUBSCRIBER:

      ee shall be rupees ,'()) '+;3()3 ));,& ) only and his annualsubscription shall be rupees ,'()) '+;3()3 ;l&, payable as proided inthe bye laws.

      The licentiate members and subscribers may if they so desire pay a sumof rupees ,'()) ,'+%;3 only, as one time subscription so that they maynot pay annual subscription, till further amendment.

    1.ENTRANCE FEE AND SUBSCRIPTION ASSOCIATES:

      1ntrance fee of each associate shall be rupees ,'()) '+;3()3 %;3));,& ) ;l&. and his annual subscription rupees ,'()) '+;3()3 only payable as proided in the byelaws.

    1/.SUBSCRIPTION FOR STUDENTS: The annual subscription of each student shall be (+>)) ,'=(,& only! student member may pay a one time subscription of rupees ;)'+;3()3 *,& only.! proportionate reduction may be gien to those who are already membersof the institute based on the number of years till their graduation.

    14. SUBSCRIPTION

       The annual subscription of all classes of members, students and subscribersshall be payable in adance and shall become due on 6st !pril, each year iniew of change in o'cial nancial year.If a member shall permit a subscription to remain in arrears for a periodexceeding two years, the council may suspend mailing journal, newsletters,

    etc., without prejudice to the right of council to remoe any member after duenotice.

    15. LIABILITY  ! member shall be liable for the payment of his subscription until he haseither ceased to be a member under bylaw 6?, 6: and 8; or has signied hisintention to resign, by notice in writing, deliered to the joint honorarysecretary.

    16. PRIVILEGES OF MEMBERS 1ery fellow, associate, Licentiate and $onorary +ember, shall, when elected,be entitled to receie a 2)(,=2%,) * #)#$)('=> of such form and designas the council may from time to time prescribe. &uch certicate shall be theproperty of institute and in the eent of termination of membership shall bereturned to the council.

    17. PRIVILEGES OF STUDENTS AND SUBSCRIBERS

     !ll students and the subscribers shall hae the right to participate in all thepriileges of the institute except that of being elected in the council or otingon any other matter.

    1. ACTION TAKEN AGAINST MEMBERS

      If any member shall be expelled, suspended, censured, or any decision ta>enagainst him as aforesaid, ,') C'%=(#%; at the next general body meeting ofthe institute shall announce such expulsion against him.

    . FORMATION OF CHAPTERS AND CENTRES

    O;) '+;3()3 ( #() #)#$)( of the institute residing orpracticing in any state or union territory, and desirous of forming achapter shall inform ,') >()=3);, in the form of a l),,)( signed byat least #)#$)( residing there, who subject to the proision inthe constitution and the bylaws, shall forthwith authori3e them to forma chapter. 1ach state or union territory shall hae only ;) 2'%>,)(.

    In case of l) ,'%; 1 #)#$)(, state or union territory is +;%$l), *(# % 2'%>,)(, it shall hae option of forming a center.

    1ach centre shall be attached to the chapter to which the city itbelongs.

    4ecision to form a chapter shall be decided by majority of memberspresent, including postal oters.

    Ao members can be attached to mare than one chapter.  The chapters and centers shall be goerned by the chapter and center

    1. COUNCIL

    !ll aDairs of the institute shall be managed by the council, butshall be subject to the control by the general body of the institute.

    . APPOINTMENT OF BOARDS AND COMMITTEES

     The council may from time to time appoint Boards for such purpose orpurposes as the *ouncil may deem necessary, and may also delegate any ofits duties to the Boards and dene their terms of reference

    HONORARY TREASURER $onorary treasurer shall not hold o'ce for moretha 2;)2+,=) ,)(# and shall be responsible to the council. It shall behis responsibility to 3=()2, ,') 2ll)2,=; * +$2(=>,=; %;3 ,')

It shall be his responsibility to receie all moneypayable to the institute. $e shall >eep particular account of all such receiptsand payments and render a report to the council when re0uired. $e shallpresent annual account to the council before 14,' * +;) in each year andaccounts shall be dully signed and certied as corrected by the auditor.

     OINT HONORARY SECRETARIES: $e shall not hold o'ce for more than8 consecutie terms. It shall be the responsibilities of the %t. $onorary&ecretaries under the direction of the *ouncil, to conduct correspondenceof the institute, to attend al the 9eneral Body and &pecial 9eneral Body+eetings of the Institute and the *ouncil, to ta>e minutes of theproceedings of such meetings.

    AUDITOR: The council of the institute shall appoint an !uditor for a termof two years, who shall hae access, at all reasonable times, to theaccounts and securities. $e shall examine the securities and annualaccounts before the latter are submitted to the irst 9eneral Body+eeting, and shall report thereon to the Institute.

    . THE VACANCY IN THE COUNCIL: The council shall ll up by co-option any casual acancy in the council which may occur during its

    terms as well as any acancies left upon at the election. !ny member soco-opted shal retire along with the council.

    /. MEETINGS OF THE COUNCIL: The council shall meet at least once in,9 #;,', and eight days notice shall be gien of such meeting bythe %t. $on. &ecretaries. T') +(+# of such meetings shall be =. Ifthe re0uired number of members is not present the meeting shall standadjourned for 6; minutes and held as an adjourned meeting not re0uiringa 0uorum. !ny member of the council who, except with the permission ofthe council, shall absent himself from three consecutie councilmeetings, shall Ipso-facto cease to be a member of the council, except ifhe is granted leae of absence, if so re0uested in writing. !t anyemergent meeting of the council called by the "resident the 0uorum shallalso be six.

    4. ELECTION OF THE COUNCIL: !t the end of eery 8 yearterm after the last general body meeting the member of the councilshall retire from the o'ce and eery such retiring member shall beeligible for re election unless stated otherwise in the bylaws. 1erymember oDering himself as the member of the council of eligible

    shall be nominated in writing by at least #)#$)( * ,')=;,=,+,). Ao member shall be eligible for the o'ce bearer unlesshe has preiously sered on the council for one full term of 8 years

    5. GENERAL BODY MEETING: the council shall x the datesfor general body meetings and intimation containing dates ofmeetings shall be forwarded to eery member.

    6. VOTING AT MEETINGS: 1ery fellow, licentiate andassociate shall hae one ote. Two scrutini3ers elected from amongstthe members shall hae the ballet and the decision shall be nal.

    7. PUBLICATIONS: 1ery paper map plan drawing modelpresented to the institute shall be the property of the instituteunless there shall hae been preious arrangement to the contraryand the council may reproduce or publish the same in any way andany time they thin> proper.
