CITY - KOLKATA.

Kolkata, formerly Calcutta, one of the world’s most colorful cities, located in the Ganges delta at an elevation ranging between 1.5 to 9 meters. While the city was always pronounced either "Kolkata" or "Kolikata", by the locals, its official name was only changed from "Calcutta" to "Kolkata" in 2001. It is spread linearly along the banks of the River Hooghly / Ganga in a north south direction following the riverside alignment, near the Bay of Bengal. Much of the city was originally a vast wetland, reclaimed over

the" decades to accommodate the city's burgeoning population.

The city of joy Kolkata is not only a place of heart and culture but its uniqueness has attracted National and International societies and people for which it repeatedly merged as a capital of India and the controlling area at National level. The British realized it the appropriate point for harvesting business and administrative opportunities. Eventually, the great scientific personalities like Acharya Jagadish Chandra Bose, Acharya Prafulla Chandra, Scientist Meghnath Saha, Scientist Satyendra Nath Bose (Bose Einstein theory), and Noble Laureate C. V. Raman all were happy to brighten the scientific history of this city at National and International domain.

Calcutta has given to the world intellectuals and thinkers like the great social reformer Raja Ram Mohan Roy, the Saint Sri Ramakrishna Paramhansa Dev, the ascetic Swami Vivekananda, the great poet Rabindranath Tagore, freedom fighter Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose. And it is the home for Mother Teresa. Almost all Nobel Prize winners from India have been associated with this city in some way or other. It is known as the City of Joy.

This state is still experimenting various socio political issues with its raised up intellect and mass awareness and getting rapidly rich with recent development and growth.

The ISSICON 2011 would be a realistic event in connection with the upcoming developmental revolution in the running year.

In November it will be nice and charming weather in Kolkata when the temperature ranging from 18 degree to 25 degree and modern roads and hotels and banquet places will definitely attract all the delegates.

Route Map of SINP

Location of Saha Institute of Nuclear Physics :

This campus is located around 3 K.M. from Ultadanga down the 1st Avenue in Block AF. Nearby landmark: Calcutta Armed Police Camp (popularly known as "C.A.P camp") Bus Stop on 1st avenue at the 4th island.

OR Baisakhi Bus Stop (or Baisakhi Island) on 1st avenue at the 5th island. Water Tank No. 5 is in between these two islands.

How to reach: From Ultadanga: Taxi, Bus, Auto rickshaw.

Take a left turn at the C.A.P. Camp Island or Baishaki Island. Move till you reach the road at the side of the canal. If you are coming from C.A.P. side take a right turn. SINP campus will be on your right side. If you are coming from the Baishaki side, take a left turn after reaching the canal side. SINP gate is around 100 meters from that end.AirportBoth the domestic and international terminals of Kolkata Airport (Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose International Airport) is situated further North/North-East of Salt Lake. The Airport is more popularly known as Dum Dum Airport. One has to take Nazrul Islam Sarani (erstwhile V.I.P. Road)or Jessore Road from the airport to reach the city. The N.I. Sarani actually originates from near the airport and leads to Ultadanga. The distance from airport to Ultadanga through V.I.P. Road is around 8 K.M. Coming from airport, down the V.I.P. road towards Ultadanga, one has to pass through a place called "Kestopur" (around 5 K.M. from the airport). After Kestopur, till Ultadanga (the rest 3 K.M.),one fringe of Salt Lake City runs parallel to V.I.P. road, de-marketed by a running canal called "Kestopur Canal". Unfortunately no bridge for vehicular traffic is in existence to connect VIP road and Salt Lake over the Kestopur Canal. There are a few foot-bridges. For this reason one has to go tillUltadanga and take a turn to enter Bidhannagar. Saha Institute Of Nuclear PhysicsSector 1,Block - AFBidhannagarKolkata 700 064India Phone: 2337-5345
