The Specialist Equipment Library (SEL) provides resources to eligible early childhood and child care services (ECCC) services to improve their capacity and capability to provide quality inclusive practices, and address participation barriers so children with additional needs can be included alongside their typically developing peers. Identifying the need for SEL and applying for inclusion supports Step 1: Contact your local Inclusion Hub If you do not have contact details for your local Inclusion Hub please contact us toll free on 1800 703 382 or via email [email protected]. Step 2: Complete a SIP in collaboration with your Inclusion Professional The Inclusion Professional will generate a record for the ‘Strategic Inclusion Plan’ (SIP) and issue a Letter of Introduction for your service. Each service site will have one SIP. Where a service does not have the necessary infrastructure to support the IS Portal, a paper-based SIP is available. The SIP is the first step to accessing support from the programme and your Inclusion Professional will assist your service to complete your SIP. Step 3: Is specialist equipment library required? If the SIP identifies that specialist equipment would support your service to include all children, the IA will assist you to access the SEL. An Inclusion Professional will assist the Educator and the child/ren’s Therapist to complete the NSW/ACT Specialist Equipment request Form. This is an ideal introduction to supported functional seating. It is fully adjustable and specifically designed for young children between the ages of 4 months to 5 years. The chair was developed in conjunction with therapists and carers and is now a replacement for the Jenx Giraffe chair, which is no longer manufactured.
The Bee Chair is very easy to move around as it has a hi lo base. At its lowest point, the seat to the floor measurement is 30cm so when it comes to play time, story time or even at lunch, the chair can be lowered to its lowest point, so children can sit with their peers in any centre with ease. This may not necessarily be appropriate for floor play, an alternative for this activity could be to use a Jenx corner seat, which will still give support and would allow ground level interaction.
This is a comfortable, contoured and stable modular seating system, designed to suit the needs of children with either complex or mild needs between the ages of 18months and 12 years. The seating system has an outstanding level of versatility and achieves this through a wide variety of head, trunk, leg and foot support. It can be tailored to the needs of an individual child. This frame can be used for children with Cerebral Palsy or who present generally with low muscle tone in their lower limbs. Children are often unable to stand on their own or will never stand independently. This frame offers the child more opportunities to participate independently with peers in selected standing activities. Daytime body positioning, using standing frames helps to keep the child’s body in good alignment. The amount of weight bearing through the lower extremities can be variable for standers, but it is important to encourage bone mineralization. This lightweight, upright, height adjustable standing frame provides a child with minimal support to the trunk but allows limited movement in all directions. The frame is on a non-slip base, has adjustable heel stops and vertically adjustable knee support. There is a wide pelvis restraint available with the smaller model. This piece of equipment is available in a variety of sizes and is ideal for children from 12months to approximately 13 years of age. The Throne Children’s Step and Rail has been developed to assist children access the toilet with more independence. The Step is attached to the side brackets of the rail and can fold up against the front of the pan when not in use. The Step is height adjustable. The throne step and rail will fit all toilets except the newer egg- shaped toilets.
The TAD Step and Rail is primarily designed to assist children with limited balance or short stature to transfer safely onto and off the toilet as well as providing support whilst sitting on the toilet.
