    Why Livestock Production isImportant ?

    Occupy 30% of the planets ice free terrestrial surface area;

    Significant global assets with a value of at least 1.4 trillion USD

    Globally contribute 40% of GDP, in Bangladesh 33%of AgriculturalGDP and

    From Nutritional stand point, 30-50%of proteins to human diet

    Back bone of Agriculture providing adding value to cropproduction

    Employ 1.3 b people globally, 600 m poor small farmers indeveloping world, 10 million direc tly in Bangladesh

    Impact of Climate Change onLivestock Production- Temperature tolerance of heat waves;

    Heat stress,

    Possible reduction in feed sources,

    Extreme events- Climate Variability;

    Mateo-patty (rapid air pressure change),

    Excited behavior- (storm, surge, together makes an onslaught),

    Sea level rise triggers spatial dimension (13-17% land loss),

    Compound other stresses upon Agricultural production.

    Decrease production;

    5oC increased up to 10% lower productivity,

    Impact of Climate Change onLivestock Production-

    Feed availability; Land use and systems change,

    Changes in primary productivity- crops, forages,

    Changes in species composition,

    Quantity and quality of plant material i.e., pasture loss

    Disease vectors;

    Spatial and temporal dimension of diseases vectors

    Tropical diseases vectors occurred;

    Toxin in feed , food

    Consequences-Cattle production

    Dairy- high negative

    Intensive forage production

    High productive breeds

    Low climate variability tolerance

    Beef- low negative

    Natural pastures,

    Locally adapted breed (e.g., RCC)

    Consequences-small ruminantproduction

    Sheep and goat- low negative/positive

    Extensive traditional,

    Natural pastures (under grazing),

    Locally adapted breeds,

    Soc io-economic impact is significantly bigger,

    Disease control (parasites, helminth infection etc.,)

    8/10

    Consequences-Poultry and pigproduction

    High negative;

    Intensive production,

    High efficient genetic resources,

    Low adaptability on diverse conditions,

    Required high quality feed,

    High investment in controlled indoor environment,

    Decreased economic efficiency.

    Cope with Climate Changes inLivestock sector

    Controlled environment in the barns;

    Thermal isolation,

    Cooling installments (Spraying, chillers ---),

    Water treatment.

    Feeding efficiency;

    Intensive production

    Pastures management

    Genetic perspective;

    Animal genetic resources loss,

    Climate variability tolerance animals are required.

    What More Options left ?

    Adaptive research;

    Work on development of locally adapted breeds;

    Investment in adaptation, that we are week;

    Systematic approach;

    Assessment CC on animal health; relationship between CC &animal health;

    Modelling climate related changes to grassland/ forageproduction;

    Develop an impact inventory across livestock spec ies and theirvalue in monetary terms;

    Disease control and prevention;

    Carry out a cost benefit appraisal of adaptation plans.
