The Illinois Center for Autism

I never imagined that when I accepted my very first teaching job, I would retire as the Executive Director of such a splendid organization. In the many roles that I have served the clients of ICA, I’ve witnessed heartache, laughter, tears, and joy. I’ve also learned, when you spend a great deal of time with others who have the same ultimate goal, you become family. You argue, you succeed and you win –together.

I’m extremely proud and grateful that I have had the chance to represent such an incredible organization and lead such a dedicated and skillful staff. We’ve accomplished, despite the challenges, a great deal together.

Along the way I can only hope we have influenced the lives of those we’ve had the privilege of serving in a very powerful and meaningful way.

In the next few pages, you will see our accomplishments and challenges of 2016-2017. I believe my staff and I have prepared the Illinois Center for Autism for a very strong and prosperous future. I trust it will continue to grow and serve some of the most precious and vulnerable individuals in our society.

Yes, I greatly appreciate all the opportunities my 30+years with ICA has afforded me. While I am looking forward to retirement, ICA will always have a place in my heart.

First Responder ASD Trainings

The evidence based practices utilized by ICA include but are not limited to: Applied Behavior Analysis, Functional Behavior Assessments (FBA), differential reinforcement of other behaviors, extinction, naturalistic intervention, self-management interventions, functional communication training, the Picture Exchange Communication System (PECS), utilization on speech generating devices, use of social narratives, social skills groups, video modeling, task analysis, prompting, structured work systems, visual supports and computer-aided instruction.
