Icelandic Farm Holidays Ltd. and the Icelandic Farm Holidays

Association have signed a three-year agreement with Better

Business in Iceland, which specialises in helping businesses

to ensure the continuous improvement of their services. The project involves

unannounced visits by a "Mystery Shopper" to our farmhouses, farmers‘

guesthouses and country hotels. The aim of this initiative is not only to improve

the quality of our service, but also to develop our competitive advantage and

Our main environmental initiatives last year included a seminar for our members who were interested in becoming Green Globe certified. Following the seminar, we provided advice to individual members on how they could reach their goals and, as a result, certified members within our association increased from three to seven.

Furthermore, during the summer 2008, we put a special emphasis on evaluating environmental and security standards amongst our members, as part of our routine quality audit. The results of this work will be used to help our members improve their performance in these areas.

Akranes is a picturesque town just moments away from the Reykjavík City centre. You can actually take the city bus from Reykjavík to Akranes, using your Reykjavík visitors’ card, and step off in Akranes within an hour. It doesn’t get easier - or cheaper - and you have a full day of fun ahead of you! Akranes is a beautiful town, sheltered by Mt. Akrafjall, which is actually quite easy to climb, if you are into mountain climbing.All year long Langisandur Beach is an outdoor paradise as there is little that is as good for body and soul as to walk along the shore, soak up the aroma of the sea, and lose all sense of the daily grind in the gentle lapping of the waves or the rhythm of the surf. Then there is the Akranes Museum Area; a collection of four museums and one of the biggest tourist attractions in West Iceland, where you can see and learn all there is to know about Icelandic culture, Icelandic rocks and stones and also the history and highlights of sports in Iceland.

• Farmhouse: The guests stay in the home of the hosts. The rooms are simple but comfortable and adequate; some of them offer rooms with private facilities.

• Farmer’s guesthouse: The rooms can be in the same building as the hosts, but separated from their home, in another country-house, unit cottages or cottages. Rooms with both shared and private facilities.

• Country hotel: Extra facilities and service available. All the rooms in cat. IV have private facilities and are better equipped.

• Cottage: All cottages have cooking facilities and the necessary kitchen utensils and crockery for the registered number of guests. Duvets are supplied and bed linen is rented.

IV: Rooms with private facilities in country hotels. They are equipped with TV, radio and sometimes coffee making facilities.

Sleeping bag accommodation Sleeping bag accommodation can be in ordinary sized rooms (1-

4 persons) and is mostly in beds, although mattresses are sometimes provided when extra beds are needed. Breakfast is not included.

Types of cottages: A, B, C and DThe cottages are rented both on daily and weekly basis. All cottages

must be neat and in good condition. They must have running water and a WC. Duvets are supplied but guests rent the bed linen. All cottages have cooking facilities, refrigerator and the necessary kitchen utensils and crockery for the registered number of guests. The difference between the classification A, B, C and D is mainly a question of size, extra facilities and comfort. Guests have to clean rented cottages upon departure. Cleaning for surcharge upon request.

A: These cottages are simple and need only to be one room and WC facilities.

B: These cottages have at least one separate bedroom. Coffee maker. Shower facilities in the area.C: In addition to the requirements of A and B, there is a shower in the cottage. Coffee-maker and toaster. Outside the cottage is a veranda with garden furniture and barbeque.

D: These are cottages with requirements of at least one well-equipped bedroom with bedside tables and wardrobe. Comfortable and tasteful furniture. Outside the cottage should be veranda with garden furniture, barbeque and hot tub.

• Bauernhaus: Die Unterkunft ist im Haus der Gastgeber. Die Zimmer sind einfach, aber bequem; einige Zimmer haben ein privates Badezimmer.

• Farmer's-Gästehaus: Die Unterkunft kann im Haus der Gastgeber sein, doch in einem seperaten Teil des Hauses, in einem anderen Gebäude oder in Sommerhaus-Ein-heiten. Zimmer mit und ohne Badezimmer.

• Country Hotel: Mehr Luxus und mehr Service angeboten. Alle Zimmer in Cat IV mit privatem Badezimmer und besser ausgestat-tet.

• Ferienhäuser: Alle Ferienhäuser verfü-gen über Kochgelegenheit, alle notwendin-gen Küchengeräte, Kühlschrank und Geschirr für die angegebene Anzahl von Gästen. Bettdecken werden zur Verfügung gestellt. Bettwäsche kann gemietet werden.

Unterkunft der Kategorie I, II, III und IV. I: Die Zimmer sind einfach und bequem. Täglich werden die Betten gemacht und die Zimmer gereinigt. Saubere Handtücher wer-den zur Verfügung gestellt. Zugang zu einem Gemeinschaftsraum.

II: Zusätzlich zu Cat I verfügen alle Zimmer über ein Waschbecken.III: Zusätzlich zu Cat I und II verfügen alle Zimmer in Cat III über ein privates Badezimmer. Die Zimmer können in Bauernhäusern, Farmer‘s-Gästehäusern und Ferienhäusern sein. IV: Zimmer mit privatem Badezimmer (in Country Hotels). Sie sind mit einem Fernseher, Radio und manchmal einer Kaffeemaschine ausgestattet.

Schlafsackunterkunft Schlafsackunterkunft kann in Standardzimmern sein (1- bis 4-Bettzimmern). Meistens in Betten, doch manchmal auf Matratzen, wenn Zusatzbetten benötigt werden. Frühstück ist nich inbegriffen.

Ferienhäuser: A, B, C oder DFerienhäuser werden sowohl tageweise als auch wochenweise vermietet. Sie sollten alle sauber gepflegt sein, fließend Wasser und WC haben. Alle Ferienhäuser verfügen über Kochgelegenheit, alle notwendingen Küchengeräte, Kühlschrank und Geschirr für die angegebene Anzahl von Gästen. Bettdecken werden zur Verfügung gestellt. Bettwäsche kann gemietet werden. Der Unterschied zwischen den Kategorien A, B, C und D liegt vor allem in der Größe, zusätzlicher Ausstattung und des Komforts. Bei Abreise ist das Ferienhaus aufgeräumt und gesäu-bert zu hinterlassen. Endreinigung gegen Zuschlagsgebühr auf Anfrage.

A: Einfache Ferienhäuser mit nur einem Zimmer und WC.

B: Diese Ferienhäuser haben mindestens ein seperates Schlafzimmer. Kaffeemaschine. Duschgelegenheit in der Nähe.C: Zusätzlich zu den Einrichtungen von A und B ist hier Dusche oder Bad vorhanden. Kaffeemaschine und Toaster. Vor dem Haus ist eine Veranda mit Gartenmöbeln und einem Grill.D: Größere Ferienhäuser, die mindestens ein gut ausgestattetes Schlafzimmer mit Schrank und Nachttischen haben. Gemütliche und geschmackvolle Einrichtung. Veranda mit Gartenmöbeln, Grill und Whirlpool.

• Ferme: Logement à la maison des hôtes. Les chambres sont simples et confortables et quelques unes sont offertes avec douche/WC privés.

• Ferme guesthouse: Les chambres peu-vent être dans le meme bâtiment que la maison des hôtes avec l’entrée privée ou dans un bâti-ment séparé, des bungalows ou maisonnettes. Chambres sans ou avec douche/WC privés.

• Hôtel champêtre: Plus de luxe et plus de service offert. Les chambres sont mieux équipées. Les chambres sont en Cat IV, avec douche/WC privés.

• Maisonnette: Dans toutes les maison-nettes on trouve des outils pour cuisiner. Les cuisines sont équipées pour le nombre des personnes indiquées. Les duvets sont fournis mais les clients doivent emporter leur draps ou les louer sur place.

Logement en catégorie, I, II, III et IV I: Les chambres sont simples et confortables. Elles sont nettoyées quotidiennement et les lits sont faits. Le linge de toilettes est fourni. Un salon est á la diposition des visiteurs.

II: En plus de la catégorie I, toutes les cham-bres possèdent un lavabo.III: En plus des catégories I et II, ces chambres ont douche et WC privés. Ces chambres sont offertes aux fermes, fermes guesthouses et maisonnettes.IV: Ces chambres (en hôtel champêtre) sont avec douche/WC privés et équipées d’une Télevision, Radio et parfois une cafétière.

Logement en sac de couchageCes logements peuvent être d’une taille nor-male (1 à 4 personnes). Ce sont en général des lits ou parfois des matelas s‘il s‘agit de lits supplémentaires. Le petit déjeuner n’est pas inclu.

Maisonnettes - A, B, C ou DLes maisonnettes sont louées par jour ou à la semaine. Ces logements sont soignés et possèdent l’eau courante ainsi que des WC. Les duvets sont fournis, possible de louer des draps sur place. Toutes les maisonnettes pos-sèdent un réfrigérateur et offrent la possibilité de cuisiner sur place. Les cuisines sont équi-pées pour le nombre des personnes indiquées. La différence entre les catégories A, B, C et D, est surtout une question de taille, de confort et d’équipement supplémentaire. A départ les visiteurs sont priés de rendre la maisonnette propre. Nettoyage pour un supplément à la demande.

A: Ces logements sont simples et ne contien-nennent en général qu’une chambre et des WC.B: En plus de la catégorie A, ces logements ont au moins une chambre séparée. Une cafétière. Douches sur place (dans un autre bâtiment).C: En plus de la catégorie A et B, ceux-ci contiennent une douche ou une baignoire ainsi qu’un grille pain. Sur la terrasse il y a des meu-bles de jardin et un barbecue.

D: Ces logements sont plus grands et avec au moins une chambre équipée d’une table de nuit, d’une penderie et d’un bon lit. Confortable et meublé avec goût. En plus on trouve sur la terrasse des meubles de jardin, un barbecue et jacuzzi.
