The Hunger Games Final Project (Assessment)

Instructions: Choose ONE of the four options that follow. Read the instructions carefully. The final

project is due _________________________.

Option One:

Thank you / Apology Letter and Explanation

1. Write and TYPE a 2-3 page letter from any one character in the book to any other character in

the book. You will pretend to be this character and write from their perspective (point of view).

2. In the letter you will either be thanking the other character for something, or apologizing for

something you did to the other character.

3. You must use SPECIFIC facts from the book; you may also make up facts about the story and

your characters, but they must NOT CONTRIDICT the facts from the book. SHOW ME YOU HAVE

READ THE BOOK THROUGH YOUR LETTER.

4. You must write in LETTER FORMAT. Use proper grammar, spelling and punctuation. Make sure

your letter corresponds to the character who is writing it; make sure the personality of the

character comes through in the letter.

5. You must also WRITE AND TYPE a 2-3 Paragraph Explanation of why this character would

be/should be writing this letter to the other character.

6. The final product will consist of a LETTER to a character AND a 2-3 PARAGRAH explanation of

why you felt it necessary for this character to write this letter. USE MLA FORMAT for TYPING

letter.

Option Two:

The Persuasive Essay

1. Write and TYPE a 2-3 page Persuasive Essay on whether it is better to be STRONGER or

SMARTER in the Hunger Games. YOU CAN’T SELECT BOTH—only ONE!

2. You must make a Strong Stand (claim) and argue for that position in your paper.

3. You must use 4 quotes from the book to support your argument.

4. Be sure to use a quote lead-in and parenthetical documentation within your paper (see

worksheet with examples).

5. Remember to acknowledge your opposition (counter argument) with your rebuttal as well.

6. Use proper grammar, spelling, and punctuation.

7. The final product will consist of a 2-3 page TYPED PERSUASIVE ESSAY with at least 4 quotes

supporting your position. USE MLA FORMAT for typing paper.

Option Three:

The Soundtrack

1. Imagine that you are creating the soundtrack for the movie The Hunger Games. You may use

any song you wish, except those with explicit lyrics.

2. You must use at least 7 songs on your soundtrack and 6 of them must have lyrics. The lyrics

must also be printed out as well with your final product.

3. You MAY NOT USE ANY OF THE SONGS FROM THE REAL SOUNDTRACK. These songs must be

your idea of songs that go with the characters, the events, the theme, the plot of the book.

4. All your songs must be burned onto a CD and you must also Create an original cover (not using

the MOCKINGJAY).

5. For each song you choose, you must also provide a PARAGRAPH explaining why you think this

song belongs on the HG soundtrack. You MUST use some of the LYRICS within the paragragh

and parts of the book quoted to show how the song relates to either the characters, the plot,

the events, the theme, etc.

6. The final product will consist of a CD with an original cover, a CD with 7 songs, 6 of which have

lyrics, the lyrics printed out for each of the songs, and a TYPED paper consisting of the

Paragraphs for each of the songs explaining the reason you think they belong on the HG

soundtrack. USE MLA FORMAT for typing paragraphs.

Option Four:

Poetry

1. Write and TYPE 6 poems inspired by the HG book. Each poem must be at least 12 lines long.

2. One poem must be a SONNET—look up SONNET requirements.

3. Each poem must use at least TWO FIGURATIVE DEVICES per poem. These must be in BOLD.

4. For each poem, you must write at least ONE paragraph explaining which part of the book

(character, theme, setting, plot, etc.) your poem incorporates. Explain what led you to create a

poem about that particular feature of the book and why you think your poem captures the

essence of that feature. You may also include why you specifically chose the two figurative

devices you used in each poem.

5. In your PARAGRAPHS explaining the reason for your poem, you must include ONE QUOTE from

the book, cited correctly. See parenthetical documentation and quote lead in sheet.

6. The final product will consist of a document in MLA format including: 6 TYPED poems inspired

by the book, 1 must be a SONNET and the others each 12 lines long (at least—they can be

longer if you like,) each with two figurative devices in BOLD (at least—you can use more), with

a paragraph below the poem explaining your reasoning for creating the poem (your

inspiration—which part, character, plot, etc.), including ONE QUOTE from the book itself

incorporated into your paragraph seamlessly.

These projects will be presented in class and graded on: The following Common Core Standards. Please read

through the instructions and the rubric carefully. Your final project should show evidence of planning, including

rough drafts, editing, and revising; it should be complete, polished, and professional.
