From the Principal’s desk…
The last week of the term is here! Time flies
when you’re having fun!
Yesterday our K-10 Semester One reports were
sent home with students. If you would like to
discuss your child’s report, please contact the
front office to make an appointment to meet
with the relevant teachers.
This week, seven Year 9/10 students headed to
Sydney with Mr Dodhy as part of the ASPIRE
Program. From all reports, it sounds like they
are having a great time learning about STEM
and the options out there for post schooling.
On Monday, four Year 8 girls attended the
Akin Music Workshop for Girls at Lake
Cargelligo. The Akin Program creates
opportunities for Arts participation in rural
communities. Molly Bryant, Michelene Izzard,
Madi Cassidy and Kadee Gerhard-Scali
worked in groups to write a song and
learn to play it on the ukulele. They then
worked with a videographer to create a film
clip. You can look at all of the videos online at
https://www.thehousethatdanbuilt.com/lake
-cargelico. Pictured below are the girls with
two of the music instructors.
There have been a number of sporting events
to finish off the term. Last week our bowls
team, Ryan Wallace, Josh Roscarel and Daniel
Potter, played Lake Cargelligo Central School
in the Central School Bowls Knockout.
Unfortunately, the boys lost, however it was a
fantastic learning experience for them. Thank
you to Mr Cattle for taking the boys and to the
Ungarie Bowling Club for allowing our
secondary students to play bowls for sport
each week. Today, we have a number of Year
3/4 students playing in the Todd Woodbridge
Cup in West Wyalong. I’m sure they’ll have a
great day learning new tennis skills.
Enjoy the two week break. Students return to
school on Tuesday 18th July.
Until next term,
Terrie Payne

Ungarie Central School hosted the CWA International Day on Tuesday. The country being
studied this year was Nepal. A big thank you to Mrs Noble and her hospitality class who made a
beautiful Nepalese feast for lunch. Primary classes then hosted a Nepalese influenced assembly.
Thank you to Lisa Payne for co-ordinating the day and to all the primary classes who worked so hard on their presentations. Thank you also to Brony Mason and her recorders who provided musical
entertainment. The CWA have generously donated funds to help support the recorder
excursion to Sydney and this was much appreciated.
Good luck to those students from Year 4 competing in the Todd Woodbridge Cup today. We hope you have a great day.

YEAR 3/4 RED CROSS NUTRITION WORKSHOP
YEAR 3/4 RED CROSS ‘THE PILLOWCASE PROJECT’ WORKSHOP
Year 3/4 participated in a nutrition workshop run by Nadine from Red Cross who support our ‘Breakfast Club’. This
workshop focussed on healthy lunchbox treats. Students finished the session by making and eating date balls.
Left: Caitlin Rossiter, Lara Bryant, Adelaide
Langham, Allora Vinecombe, Patrick
McClintock, Lewis Henley, Deakin Ross.
‘The Pillowcases Project’ is a disaster resilience
education program design to help build student
knowledge and preparedness in times of
disasters. During
Hurricane Katrina in the USA, students of a local
university used pillowcases to carry their
cherished and basic possessions while
evacuating campus. Upon hearing this, Red
Cross staff developed the concept of using a
pillowcase as a personal emergency kit.
The program quickly grew into a disaster
resilience education program.
During the workshop students discuss the importance of
being prepared and consider what they would pack in an
emergency kit. They then decorate a pillowcase to take
home and start their own kit.

UCS School Banking
In 2017, School Banking is getting children excited about the future with a brand new look for the Dollarmites. As Future Savers, students will join the Dollarmites on a journey to reach the Savings Hover Park, an amazing playground up in the clouds of a hi-tech city.
School banking actively engages students with the money management skills they will use for the rest of their lives, giving students more knowledge, independence and confidence when it comes to decisions about money.
How Do I Join The Program? Please contact the front office for information about how to join the program. Our banking day is each Tuesday.
You can apply to open a Youthsaver account online for your child in just minutes. Go to https://www.commbank.com.au/personal/kids/school-banking.html to open an account now.
REMINDER-
NO deliveries in the
holidays
UCS YUM would like to thank Mark
Bryant, Pat Roscarel and Paul McClintock
for digging out our new garden bed. It
has saved us so much time and effort.
Greatly appreciated.
Also thanks to Eric Rowling for allowing
us to borrow his tipper trailer.
Made the job so much easier.
School Ag plot
The UCS Ag Plot is looking for
donations of feed grain for the
livestock. If you have anything you
might be able to donate, it would be
gratefully received. It doesn't have to
be a large quantity, even a wheelie bin
full would be terrific! Contact the
school if you are able to help us out.
MUSIC There will be Wednesday rehearsals in the music room during the holidays for both
the KROP and Sydney Recorder teams. As we are trying to memorise our music, it is
important that students attend the rehearsals on both days where possible. Recorders 2-3pm KROP 3-4pm

On Tuesday, Ungarie Central School hosted
the CWA (Country Women’s Association)
Annual International Day with Nepal being
the country of study this year. A big thank
you to Mrs Noble and her hospitality
students for the delicious Nepalese luncheon.
The craft work of students K/1 to 5/6 was
most impressive. The power point
presentation was most informative and I am
sure we all came away knowing more about
Nepal and its people. Thank you to the
Recorder Group who entertained us and good
luck in September at the Opera House. I’m
sure you will do Ungarie Central proud.
Once again thank you for a great day.
