Huff Huff I n h a l e The “Huff” Coughing Technique This coughing technique can be done by itself. It should also be done along with other techniques, if those are prescribed. When to do: Special Instructions: To exhale, open your mouth and make a “huff” sound in your throat. (This is the same way you might breathe to clean a pair of glasses.) Huff 2 to 3 times as you exhale. Relax for a few seconds. Then repeat the steps as needed. Sit on a chair with both feet on the floor. Have a box of tissues handy. Take a slow, deep breath through your nose. Hold the breath for a moment before moving on to the next step.
