Basic Life Support certification is a requirement for basic readiness. Now is a

great time to review your readiness status in the RedDOG Self Service section

of the Officer Secure Area to make sure you are Basic Ready. If your BLS status

is not current, you are NOT Basic Ready!

Officers must complete and maintain currency in one of the following

approved BLS certifications:

1. American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) for health

care providers;

2. AHA Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS); or

3. American Red Cross (ARC) CPR/AED for the professional rescuer;

4. American Safety and Health Institute (ASHI) CPR for the professional

rescuer (CPR PRO);

5. Instructor certification for any of the above courses; or

6. Another basic life support training that is equivalent to the courses

listed above and which is reviewed and approved by the Surgeon

General.

Keep in mind that BLS training is not simply Adult Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation

(CPR). Your BLS certification must include:

• Adult CPR;

• Pediatric CPR;

• Infant CPR;

• Foreign Body Airway Obstruction (FBAO); AND

• Training in the use of an Automatic Electric Defibrillator (AED).

Basic Life Support: did you know?... • You must renew your BLS certificate once every 24 months;

• Renewal must be before the expiration of the previous certificate;

• Officers NOW need to electronically self-report BLS status by uploading

an image of their BLS card into eOPF using the eDOC-U self service

tool; and

• BLS status can be viewed in the RedDOG Self Service section found on

the left side of the main page of the Officer Secure Area, under Self Ser-

vice —> Certification and Training.
