Federico Garcia Lorca
Born on June 5, 1898 in a small town outside Granada, Spain.
His father Don Federico Garcia Rodriguez was a wealthy farmer while his mother Dona Vicenta Lorca was a teacher and a famous pianist.
Lorca was a late bloomer and a slow learner when he was a child. He did not talk until age three or walk until age four.
He studied law at the University of Granada after graduating from secondary school. Lorca failed several classes and moved to Madrid in 1919.

In 1919, he published his first major work originally called “The Slightest of Plays,” which was revised to “The Butterfly’s Evil Spell.” In 1920, he unsuccessfully staged this play in Madrid’s theatre.
Lorca was a well known poet. His first published poem entitled Book of Poems appeared in 1921.
He was especially famous during the 1920’s when he wrote “Gypsy Ballads” (Romancero gitano).
In 1929, after several criticisms from a former friend, Salvador Dali, Garcia Lorcan moved to New York.

Federico Garcia Lorca When Lorca returned to Spain in 1930, he focused his time and effort in directing, performing, and writing plays. His first major work in the theatre entitled “Blood Wedding” brought him wealth and honor in 1933. It was followed by his personal adaptation of “Lope’s The Foolish Lady.” In 1935, Garcia Lorca wrote “Dona Rosita the Spinster” and “The Puppet Play of Don Cristobal.” Among his last works are “The House of Bernarda Alba,” “The Destruction of Sodom,” and the controversial “Sonnets of Dark Love.”
Federico Garcia LorcaDuring the Spanish Civil War, Garcia Lorca visited his hometown in Granada. Two days after his brother-in-law’s execution, Lorca was arrested by the Fascists. He was shot to death after being in prison for several days on August 19, 1936.

IntroductionFor the next eight years Bernadette and her daughters will mourn because of the death
of her husband…Angustias, the eldest daughter, was allowed to marry a young
man named Juan Malamanga and her other sisters became jealous of her because they
weren’t allowed to be in a relationship. However, Adela, the youngest daughter, had
been seeing Juan secretly. One night, Angustias’s picture of Juan went missing….
ANGUSTIAS: Where ish Juan's pictoor that was under my
pillow? Which one you hab it?
MARGARET: nobody!
ANGUSTIAS: Where's da pictoor?
ADELA: What pictoor?
ANGUSTIAS: Sombody hide my pictoor!
MAGDALENA: How dare you say something like dat!
ANGUSTIAS: It was in my betroom and now it's not der
MARGARET: Maybe da boonie dog took it into da jungle. Juan like to walk when the coconut crab come
out at night.
ANGUSTIAS: Stop tell me jokes! When Juan comes, I'm gonna telling him!
Poncio: No! Don't tyell! It will appear. Maybe the
white lady just borrowed it.
ANGUSTIAS: I want to know who stolen Juan's pictoor
dats in my betroom NOW! ADELA: Someone have it..

MARGARET: yeah yeah, op course not you.
BERNADETTE: What da hell is all this rukus? Da next door neighbors are probably listening to all of you!
ANGUSTIAS: They taken my babes pictoor!
BERNADETTE: WHO? WHO?
ANGUSTIAS: DEM!
BERNADETTE: Which one of you took it? Tyell me! Check da rooms, look under the futons. This is from not making you guys feed the pigs and having more discipline! I will
make sure da taotaomona pinches whoever took it. Angustias, Are you
sure? ANGUSTIAS: Opo Nay!

PONCIA: Between da sheet op Margaret's bed.
BERNADETTE: Is dis true?
MARGARET= Yes, moder!
BERNADETTE: The tataomona are going to

MARGARET: Don't spank me nanay!

ADELA: That was no funny! You don't even like jokes! There was something else that you are hiding and you've been wanting to say. Just say it
already!
MARGARET: Shut your mout! Don't make me say anything because if I do, our house will
come crasing in like da wabes at fujita beach!
ADELA: Der's no end to what the devil says.
BERNADETTE: ADEEEELA!
MAGDALENA: Sus maryosep! the both of you!
MARGARET: Other people do worser tings
ADELA: Until there is nothing else dat dey are wearing and they let the
wabes pulling them away.
BERNARDA: You are a devil girl!
ANGUSTIAS: It's not my pault Juan like me!
ADELA: Only por your own cash dat your tatay gabe
you!
ANGUSTIAS: Inay!
BERNADETTE: SHUT UP!
MARGARET: For your land near da beach and your sampaguita.
MAGDALENA: That's da trut!
BERNADETTE: Be quiet all of you! I could already see the typhoon coming, but i didn't know it would hit us this fast. Oh Santa Maria, what a shower of lattestones has pulled down my own heart! But, i'm not old yet! I still have five chains from the pitbulls for each of you. I even got these walls that my father built so not even da weeds in da yard know of any of my grief.

Margaret was another sister who is in love with
Juan Malamanga. One night, Margaret caught
Adela and Juan together. While they were
arguing, Bernadette and the others woke up to
see what was happening…
BERNADETTE: Slow down, slow down. He's
lucky I don’t have a machetein betwen my
calloos ands. MARGARET: She was wit him!
Lok at her sleepers, it's cobered in red dirt!
BERNADETTE: A puton wid red dirt is a pok poks’s
puton.
ADELA : (Telling her off) There will be no more witch boice ear! This is what i do to nana's cane!
Don't moob! No one but Juan Malamanga tells me how to
running my own life!
MAGDALENA: Adela!
ADELA: I am his chat mack. (To Angustias) Now you know! Go
and tell im! He will be the man of da ouse! He's outside, breathing like a wild pig being cooked for a
fandango. (fandango is the chamorro term for a HUGE
wedding) ANGUSTIAS: OH SANTA MARIA! In Jesus' name!
BERNADETTE: The Machete! Where is the Machete?!
ADELA: No one can hold me back! (She
splits)
ANGUSTIAS: You will not leave her all happy joy joy! You stealer! You
make our own house look bat!
MAGDELENA: Go ahead and make her go! We won't see her
again, maybe she'll move to Yigo!
* A slice from the machete is heard *
BERNADETTE: Try looking por dat boy
now!
MARGARET: Patay si' Juan Malamanga.
ADELA: Juan! Oh my got! Juan!
PONCIO: Is the boy patay?
MARGARET: No. He rode off in his moped!
BERNADETTE: It's all my pault! Woomans don't
have good aim!
MARGARET: How come you said that den?
MARGARET: For Christ's sake! * I would have poured finadine on
her head!
PONCIO= (tsk tsk..) Putang-ina that
wooman.
MAGDALENA: *Lanya That Devil!
BERNADETTE: It's bedder like dat!
PONCIO: Open Sesame!
BERNADETTE: Don't make me knock down that door girl! Shame on you, the walls won't protect you!
(Adela runs to her room and locks the door)
BERNADETTE: Open the door diablo, or i will break it down with my feet! Adela! Bring someting
heavy to fokai the door!
* Poncio screams *
BERNADETTE: What happen?
PONCIO : These is Disaster!! PONCIO : Do not enter inside der!
BERNADETTE= Ai Nako! Tan Ana and Tun Juan is getting up next
door!
BERNADETTE: NO! I won't! Juan you can run trew the jungle, but you can't hide! Take her down adai. My nene died a virgin. Take her to her betroom and put on a white dresh. No one tell nobody! She died a virgin. Tell pale' (chamorro
term for priest in the village) to ring the bells when there's almost no more light in the sky.
MARGARET: *Lucky dat girl to have a chat ma like him
BERNADETTE: I don't want to see any of you crying! Hush your mouf! You can cry when your by yourself! We will mourn this deaf! Adela died
a virgin! You hear that?! SHHH. I said to be QUIET!
