Performing artists and creatives The House is keen to support professional artists, performers and artistic companies or groups. We offer discounted room rates to these hirers, when using our rooms for the development or creation of artistic work (either a practical session or a meeting to further artistic planning). OUR SUSTAINABILITY CREDENTIALS
The House provides greater access to the performing arts and embodies Plymouth University’s commitment to sustainable building practice. It was opened in November 2014 following a multi-million investment, one that promotes economic and cultural growth in the South West.
BREEAM Excellent The House is an example of best practice in sustainable building design. It is the result of calculated decisions that minimise the impact of the building on the environment. These calculations inform the design, the building works, materials used and the way in which the building will function when occupied. For example, the energy it takes to manufacture the insulation for the building is offset by the energy it will save in heating and cooling during its life.
Light Occupied spaces make maximum use of daylight. Electric lighting is switched on by detectors only when people are in the space and daylight levels are not sufficient.
In addition to our performing arts spaces at The House, we also have more creative studio and classroom spaces located on the main Plymouth University campus.
