What is horror?Horror is explicit, violent, gory, as

opposed to terror which is much more psychological and leaving more to the imagination. Horror is much more of a

20/21st century concept because it uses cinematics and modern technology to

frighten the viewer. Terror is the older genre when modern devices could not be

used.

When Horror first came aboutHorror is an art form and first came

about as a genre in the 1890’s. Throughout the decades up until today,

many horrors have been created to scare and entertain.

The First Horror MoviesSome of the first horror movies to be

produced are films such as;Frankenstein

The Phantom of the Opera& Nosferatu.

These films were all classics and gothic and many people know of them even today.

As horrors developed through the 1900’s…

With advances in technology that occurred in the 1950s, the tone of horror

films shifted from the gothic toward concerns that some saw as being more relevant to the late-Century audience.

The horror film was seen to fall into two sub-genres: the horror-of-the-

Armageddon film and the horror-of-the-demonic film. An example of a more

modern 1900 famous horror movie is;The Exorcist

The Last Exorcist“When a teenager is possessed by a

mysterious entity, her mother seeks the help of two priests to save her daughter.”

The film was made in 1973 and commercially released in USA by Warner

Bros. It was written by William Peter Blatty

and directed by William Friedkin. It is of horror genre and the film became the most profitable horror film of all time and one of the highest earning movies in general; until Steven Spielberg's “Jaws”.
