Will water metering be equitable?BY DEAN TAYLOR

All Waipa residents are nowjust weeks away frommoving to a fully user pays

water supply system. Or are they?I personally have no problem

with a metered water supply — it isafter all how we pay for just aboutevery other commodity or amenity;be it by quantity, kilogramme, litreor kilowatt hour.

And I have no particular issuewith the pricing structure for waterthat meets drinking standards.

I doubt it could be obtained anycheaper — event the cost ofsetting up and collecting your ownwater, pumps etc. would takesome time to recoup.

But there are two areas where Ibelieve some residents will bedisadvantaged.

The first is the sharing of onesupply and meter to complexproperties, ie. where there aremore than one residence on oneproperty.

Council says early indications

are that most residents of theseproperties will be better off payingtheir share of a metered supplythan the previous one-off set fee.

That may be so, but it still isn’tequitable and presentsopportunities for resentment andconflict between neighbours.

The solution Council offers isindividual meters at the roadsideon the land they own, but residentshave to pay the cost of anindividual supply line to theirresidence.

We have receivedcorrespondence that that costcould be in some cases be over$5000.

Our own enquiries suggestsomewhere between $1-3000 formost properties in the district.

However, to be completely fair, having the line and meter installedrelies on all parties agreeing, and ifyou are a high user why would youwhen your neighbours cansubsidise you.

A second option would bemeters at the residence, but

Council don’t have the power tocome onto the property to read themeter.

This option is exactly howpower meters are installed —surely there is a way to have thelaw updated to align the wateramenity supply rules with powersupply rules.

It should be mandatory forevery residence to have a meter, and that is the logical way to makeit completely fair.

Hopefully it is now a conditionof consent for new complexdevelopments to have individualwater supplies and meters at thegate.

The second group who may bedisadvantaged are tenants, orpossibly landlords.

Council has stated they canonly send water accounts to theproperty owner, or propertymanagers, in much the same wayas rates accounts.

But landlords aren’t the enduser, so how will charges bepassed on?

Council has an excellent set ofguidelines on its website — justsearch for FAQ under watermeters to find out where you standas either a tenant or landlord.

But under the new systemwhere water meters are comingonline, to be completely fair, Ibelieve the landlord should reducethe rent per property by $298.25per year — or about $5.70 perweek — which is the differencebetween the current flat water rateand the incoming fixed charge.

Then the actual cost of use at$1.495 per cubic metre is passedon to the tenant.

It means the landlord, or anagent, would have to undertakemeter readings when tenancieschange.

Where it could be adisadvantage to a landlord is tryingto recover unpaid water fees fromtenants, especially if they haveterminated the tenancy.

Good luck everyone sorting itout.

Dick says the only positiveoutcome was that it broughthim closer to his childrenRichard and Nicole.

Two years after his wife’spassing, Dick, who is mana-ger of Hamilton’s NovotelTainui Hotel, decided to hon-our the memory of his wife bycombining his two passions, running and helping otherpeople, by holding a fundrais-

ing event. He ran a treadmill mara-

thon in the hotel, with fundsgoing to the Cancer Societywhich had given the family somuch support during Warin’sillness and treatment.

The event attracted a lot ofsupport — including from anumber of All Blacks whowere staying in the hotel atthe time.

He then decided the 100half marathon goal would

also be for a cause and heencourages people to supporthim by donating to RedCross.

D i c k i s a l s o a h i g hachiever in his chosen career— managing hotels in hishome country, then aroundthe world before coming toNew Zealand to establish Ibisin Christchurch. The familycame to the Waikato when hewon the top job at NovotelTainui and set up home in

Cambridge. In 2012 he wasnamed Waikato BusinessLeader of the Year.

He says running is likesetting any other goal — setsome targets, work towardsthem, believe in yourself andwork hard — but have timefor family and fun as well.

A haunting homage

BY DEAN TAYLOR

WP190618DT02ARTIST Fran Mens with her tribute to Leonardo da Vinci’s The Last Supper.

I first met artist Fran Mens whenshe moved ‘home’ to the Waipa fromthe Bay of Plenty about a year ago.

She wanted to show me herdefining work — a three-dimensional tribute to Leonardo daVinci’s Last Supper.

It was hard not to be impressedby the 260kg multi-media piece setup as a viewing experience in thegarage of her Pirongia home.

What was harder was to come togrips with Fran’s story about theinspiration and creation of the work.

I wanted to write about The LastSupper and how amazing it is — thewords never seemed right as this isno ‘cut and dried’ story.

I saw the work again this yearwhen members of St Patrick’sCatholic parish and friends paid avisit and Father Joe Stack blessedthe art work.

Fran reiterated again she has avision for the work — that is issomething that should be shared byNew Zealanders in a way that it cando good and positive work.

The piece took about three-and-a-half years to complete. A fan ofLeonardo da Vinci andMichelangelo, Fran says the idea ofThe Last Supper as a subject‘haunted’ her dreams for a year.

“But I thought Leonardo da Vincihas already done it. I could never doit better. In the end my husbandJoseph said ‘do it’. That was in 2005.”

She can remember the day shestarted work.

“It was August 15, 2005 — thatwas the day I brought the tanalisedply to my studio.” Fran says she seesvisions and somehow knew she hadto do it.

“I know it sounds odd, but it’s thetruth.” But there was no religiousawakening in the inspiration.

“I don’t have religion, but havethe utmost respect for everyone’sbeliefs.”

In February 2007 she showed herwork for the first time in Tauranga’sCity Mall — partially completed —to gauge public reaction.

While she was creating it as ahomage to the painter, she saysmany people appreciated andcommented on it for its religiousaspects.

“I adore Leonardo da Vinci but Ican’t believe how much religiousand political debate the pieceraises,” she said at the time.

The Last Supper recreates theBible passage in which Jesusannounced that one of his 12disciples would betray him.

At the first showing, mostfeedback was positive, with visitorswriting encouraging comments inher book, so she was encouraged tocontinue.

The sculpture is made fromrecycled materials — chicken wire, small rocks, cement, mortar andwood.

There is also real bread on thetable, but eating it could well be areal last supper as it has been driedand dipped in Duraglaze — whichcontains arsenic.

The work has had an interestinglife since it was exhibited for thefirst time, completed, in ROW Gal-lery in Wharf St, Tauranga fromEaster 2010.

In 2014 Fran was frustrated thatthe work had been refused by anumber of galleries, so going againstearlier claims it was not for sale shelisted it on TradeMe.

Her plan was to show it to NewZealand and the rest of the world.

The $10 million asking pricecertainly attracted attention.

Fran says at the time she hadtried to get the larger than life pieceinto local and national galleries, including Te Papa, but has alwaysbeen refused.

She says at the time it broke herheart the piece was still sitting inher garage, when she knew thepotential it had if the right personsimply came and viewed the piece.

“Imagine it in the right room, with the proper lighting and seating. It’s just mesmerising,” she said atthe time.

That is how she has it presentednow — and it is mesmerising — butultimately it still isn’t what Franwants for the work.

She still holds out hope that itwill one day reach a wider audience— even though she has hostedthousands of people into her homein both Tauranga and Pirongia toview it.

■ Fran welcomes private and groupviewings — contact her on 871 9383 toarrange a time.

Roving the red planet

ARTIST impression of Opportunity on Mars.

Seventy-sixmillionkilometres

away on the planetMars, two roboticrovers have beentoiling for years in thename of science. This month hasbrought success forone them and troublefor the other.

For the olderrover, Opportunity,it’s bad news. Overthe past few weeks ahuge dust storm hasspread to cover aquarter of the entire planet. Opportunity is solar-powered and is no longer receiving enoughsunlight to function, so almost all its systems havebeen shut down to conserve energy. Hopefullythis will enable it to ride out the storm but Martiandust clouds can last for months, making survivalvery difficult.

A silver lining is that NASA’s other rover, along with several space probes orbiting Mars, are well-placed to study this storm and learn a lotabout extreme weather on other planets.

If Opportunity does succumb to the storm itwill be the end of a spectacularly successfulmission. This rover was only designed to lastthree months on Mars but has been workingalmost flawlessly for over 15 years.

The other rover,Curiosity, is notaffected by the stormand is having a muchbetter time. In one ofits most significantdiscoveries sincelanding there in 2012,Curiosity has foundclear evidence oforganic molecules onMars. This doesn’tnecessarily indicatelife but organics areimportant buildingblocks of life as weknow it. Thisdiscovery will keep

scientists excited and busy for a long time.Mars is currently in a good position to be seen

from New Zealand in the evening. A striking deepred colour, it rises in the east at about 8.30 pmand will rise a little earlier each night in the comingweeks.

Also look out for a bright Jupiter higher in theevening sky and orange-tinted Saturn betweenMars and Jupiter.

Speaking of Jupiter, last month we talkedabout the possible termination of the Junomission. NASA has since announced that Juno issafe and the mission has been extended for threeyears.

Let’s hope for similar good news from Marsand our stoic robo-friend Opportunity.

Kiwi jewellery designer, entrepreneur andmother, Kat Gee, made her mark in thejewellery industry with her first brand, Kagi, which specializes in elegant, versatile andstunning designs.

Founded in 2006, the Kagi brand has nowgrown and is sold across Australasia andfeatures frequently in top women’s fashionmagazines.

The company is proudly based in NewZealand and creates versatile and elegantdesigner jewellery that women across theworld love. Every season, Kagi travels theworld to find the finest gems and pearls to usein their designs.

In an exciting new collection, Kat has createda signature range of limited edition pieces for

Kagi that combines gold, rose gold or silver,a base metal and steel with semi-preciousgemstones, Swarovski crystals and pearls tocreate jewellery that is collectable, stackableand utterly wearable.

Jewellery has always been Kat’s first love andpassion. From designing and selling jewelleryin the playground at age 7 to then starting herfirst jewellery company at just 24, a career injewellery seemed inevitable. Kat first showedher jewellery at New Zealand FashionWeek2007 to rave reviews and was quick to sellout of the first collections. The business hasgrown organically since then and Kat is nowmum to 2 gorgeous young children and livesby the beach in Christchurch.

Citing her grandma’s style and savvyapproach to accessorising as her singlegreatest inspiration, Kat’s designs are bothtimeless and contemporary and designed forthe modern women. Kat’s simple unclutteredstyle and precision craftsmanship is evidentin all of her limited-edition designs.

Growing up in Christchurch, New ZealandKat recalls weekend visits to Birdling’s Flatbeach with her Grandparents to hunt forprecious gems and pebbles along the water’sedge. Now Kat travels the world to source thestunning gemstones and pearls to include inher designs and works with a highly talentedteam of jewellers to handcraft her conceptsin reality.

She recalls the story of the pearl necklacethat her Grandma hid in her undergarmentswhen in a Japanese concentration campWWII – this necklace is still in Kat’s familytoday. To Kat and her passionate Kat Geeteam, jewellery represents much more thanjust metals and gems.

Kat hopes you find as much enjoyment fromher designs as she has in creating them foryou.

Waipa residents are being encouraged todo their bit for New Zealand’s icon bysupporting a fundraising campaign forKiwis.

Sanctuary Mountain Maungatautari waslast year announced as the national strong-hold for western brown kiwi, which will seeup to 500 new kiwi introduced to its reserveover the next five years.

The opportunity to use this predator-freeenvironment was identified by Kiwis forKiwi, a national charity working alongsidethe Department of Conservation to turnaround the national decline in kiwi popu-lations from the current two per cent losseach year to a two per cent net gain.

The introduction of the new kiwi willenable Sanctuary Mountain Maungatautarito continue to use its expertise to nurtureand grow current kiwi populations.

Sanctuary Mountain MaungatautariCEO Phil Lyons says the organisation has ashort-term fundraising campaignunderway.

He is urging people to donate to help thekiwi.

The campaign runs until the end of Juneand all money raised will go towards theupkeep of the mountain for the safety of thekiwi living there.

Sanctuary Mountain Maungatautari hasthe longest pest-proof fence in the world,47km, protecting 3363 hectares of ecologicalreserve and many of New Zealand’s endan-gered species.

Phil says the Kiwis for Kiwi organisationhas identified Sanctuary MountainMaungatautari as the best opportunity forgrowth in western brown kiwi numbers, avaluable kohanga kiwi (source site) able toprovide kiwi to other sites in the near future.

“If we can tap into some financial helpfrom our many friends and supporters, andwhen we combine that with the help ofKiwis for Kiwi, we think up to 680 pairscould soon call Maungatautari home.”

He’s encouraging people to visit theSanctuary Mountain Maungatautariwebsite and make a donation.

All donations made by the end of Junewill go into a draw for a SanctuaryMountain Maungatautari pictorial guide.

“The money we raise is really importantas it goes towards our programmes of pesteradication and fence monitoring – all ofwhich is vital to help keep the kiwi safe,”Phil says.

“It’s a shocking statistic that 95 per centof kiwi chicks don’t survive in the wild. Wemust do what we can to save our nationalicon and turn around the populationdecline.”

He says the pest-free mountain is the keyto New Zealand’s goal of making the nationpredator-free by 2050.

Volunteers get involved

Three of Volunteering Waikato’s team members (Chris,Rae and Jenny) taking part in a Cook-a-thon for Bellyful.

For Volunteering Waikato,National Volunteer Week(June 17-23) is a great

opportunity to not onlycelebrate volunteers andvolunteering, but also toencourage more people in ourregion to get involved in theircommunities through thegiving of time.

This week the organisationis not only celebrating its ownteam of volunteers, butrecognising volunteersthroughout the Waikato at theannual Volunteer ExcellenceAwards event on Friday night.

During the past few yearsVolunteering Waikato has seena significant increase in thenumber of people registeringto volunteer, and last year wastheir biggest year ever — over3600 people registered andapplied for more than 4600voluntary positions in thecommunity.

While the number of Kiwisinvolved in volunteering hasincreased over the past decade, the amount of hours workedhas decreased. This means, now more than ever, theimmensely positive impact ofvolunteering, felt throughoutour communities, the economyand the people themselves

needs to be highlighted.More than simply

providing programmes andservices, the volunteer industrystrengthens community bondswhile also extending anddeepening the public’sengagement with theirregions.

Many of those whovolunteer in our communityprovide a helping hand inprojects that couldn’t beachieved otherwise.

The theme of this year’sNational Volunteer Week:Volunteers, The Heart of ourCommunity — By many, thework will be completed, Ma tini,ma mano, ka rapa te whai,

speaks to that.Heather Moore, general

manager of VolunteeringWaikato says VolunteeringWaikato aims to make it easyfor people to volunteer.

“We can help find the bestrole to meet a potentialvolunteers needs, whetherthey are looking for socialengagement, workexperience, or to have animpact on their community —we have roles to suit.”

Demolition at Cambridge poolIt’s all action at the

Cambridge pool site withdemolition nearlycompleted.

Demolition began im-mediately after the site wasblessed and now the plantroom, men’s changingrooms, barbecue area andexisting toddlers’ pool havebeen demolished.

As part of the demoli-tion phase, two ghost elmtrees located in the berm atthe front of the buildingwere removed to allow en-try/exit into the new carpark area.

Two larger pittosporumtrees by the existing barbe-cue area, plus a totara andkowhai tree near theexisting pool entrance werealso removed.

Three new elm trees willbe planted in the berm toreplace the two ghost elms

and a wider landscapingplan is also underway.

Project managerLorraine Kendrick saidevery effort had been madeto keep as many estab-lished trees as possible, including incorporatingexisting trees into the pooldesign.

“The trees provide a lotof character and we weredetermined to keep whatwe could,” she said. “Infact, the whole building hasbeen modelled around pro-tecting three large cedartrees and a london plane toprovide natural shade overthe outdoor pool and splashpad.

“We’ve spoken to thosewho have specific interestsin the trees and shared theplans for the area. We haveretained some stunningestablished trees but it was

simply impossible to designaround everything and stillprovide enough car parkspaces plus safe entry andexit points, particularly forchildren.”

All the concrete re-moved as part of demoli-tion will be crushed on-siteand used as back fill mater-ial in the new build. Majorconstruction work beginsat the end of July.

Waipa District Councilapproved the concept plansin 2017 for an upgrade of theexisting outdoor pool, anew 10-lane indoor pool andlearner’s pool, a hydro-therapy pool, spa andsauna and a children’ssplash pad. There will beincreased seating and acommunity room as well ascar-parking, landscapingand an upgrade of William-son St.

Ben and Eira pair up to wincontest’s culinary skills title

PHOTO: WINTEC PHOTOGRAPHY STUDENT MARIE BRUNSKILLRURAL Catch culinary skills winner Ben Fisher of Ohaupo celebrates his victorywith teammate Eira Lloyd-Forrest (centre left).

BY CAITLAN JOHNSTON

Aself-described “uselesscook” proved a dabhand with asparagus

rolls as he and his cookingteammate won the culinaryskills round of the Rural Catchcompetition.

Ohaupo farmer Ben Fisherand fellow competitor EiraLloyd-Forrest prepared a rus-tic feast of asparagus rolls, meat wraps and salmoncrackers. For dessert theymade a grand farming-inspired birthday cake.

The eight contestantswere challenged to partner upand create savoury and sweetdishes that celebrated 50years of Fieldays for roundeight of the competition onFriday.

Brett McGregor, aMasterChef winner, was co-hosting the challenge and saidthis year it was a lot morefired up with the girls onboard.

“It’s getting really competi-tive this year with the girls, they’ve all really raised thebar,” says Brett.

Before the challenge gotunder way, Ben and Eiralooked over the food selectionwith some trepidation. Theysuggested that Lilly Newton,

another contestant, wouldprobably take the win.

“I’m a bit worried aboutthe cooking challenge, I’mreally not a good cook. I betternot tell the ladies that,” saysBen.

Despite winning, they didface a few bumps along theway. While Ben quietly

cooked away and taste-testedmore regularly than expected,Eira had some frosting drama.

At first the frosting wastoo stiff, but after heating it upthe frosting became too runnyand sent her cake on a slope. Itbecame the leaning tower ofcake.

Brett said it actually

worked in her favour after hetasted the cake. He said it hadmade the cake perfectly moist.

Taking the win was amassive shock to them both, especially Ben who jumpedfor joy at the announcement.

“I’m in absolute shock, cooking is not my thing atall.”

Kawhia rider excels in FranceBY ANDY MCGECHAN

New Zealand’s James Scottmade all the right moves as hethrust himself into the spotlightat the French Motocross GrandPrix.

The 16-year-old KTM racerfrom Oparau, near Kawhia, twice finished fifth at theFrench GP at St Jean d’Angely, gaining his first points of theseason and elevating himselffrom nowhere in the European125cc Championship (EMX125)to 21st in the standings afterthis fifth round of eight in theseries.

Riding for the F4E KTMTeam, the 2016 New Zealandjunior 13-16 years’ 85cc classchampion Scott took time to getused to the steep French track, situated between La Rochelleand Cognac, in the south-west ofFrance. He qualified only 31stfastest, which meant he neededto race the last-chance qualifier(LCQ) to earn a place in thestarting line-up for the GP.

He led every lap in the LCQ

race, finishing a massive 22seconds ahead of the runner-up,Italian KTM rider RiccardoNicoli.

Despite Scott being granted

only a late pick on the cham-pionship race start line, he leaptinto second spot soon after thestart of the first championshiprace proper before eventually

slipping back to claim fifth atthe chequered flag.

It was harder work for Scottin the second EMX125 race.

Jammed in traffic at thestart, the Kiwi fought bravely torise from 30th position toeventually claim another fifth-place finish.

“I was happy with the result, but not so much my riding. Ididn’t have my normal flow andspeed,” said Scott.

“The weekend started off notthat great, only qualifying 31stand having to come through thelast chance race, which I won bya decent margin.

“Then came race one, lateron in the day, and I got a greatjump out of the gate and led fora little while before a smallcrash relegated me to fourthand I eventually finished fifth. In race two, I got a horrible startand then slowly made my wayback up to fifth again, which Iwas really happy with.”

The next EMX125 championrace is on the Lommel circuit,in Belgium, on August 5.

Stayer Daytona Red is off to RiccartonA trip to Riccarton is the

long-term plan for the progress-ive stayer Daytona Red.

The four year old won threeraces during his last campaignand was turned out after animpressive performance toclaim top honours at the ex-pense of the highly-regardedFelaar in the Listed New Zea-land St Leger (2500m) at Tren-tham.

“He’s been back in work for aweek and his main goal will bethe New Zealand Cup,” saidtrainer Shaune Ritchie.

“He can handle some wettracks so that makes it easier toget him ready.”

Ritchie has also welcomedanother promising stayer backinto the fold with Excalibur inlight work.

“He doesn’t handle wet

ground so we’ll potter alongwith him and go along slowly,”he said.

“The Counties and WaikatoCups will be races on his radarand maybe the WellingtonCup.”

Excalibur made impressiveprogress through the summerwith a hat-trick of distance winsat Ellerslie, Pukekohe Park andat Hastings to earn a Group One

start in the Auckland Cup(3200m). He finished eighth, butonly three lengths from thewinner Ladies First, and wasthen given a break.

“He’s putting together a verygood record over ground,” saidRitchie.

Younger stablemate OwenPatrick atoned for a previousfailure when successful lasttime out at Hawke’s Bay.

BY COLIN THORSENAND DIANA DOBSON

New Zealand equestrianlegend Andrew Nicholson is feel-ing immense pride after beingmade an Officer of the NewZealand Order of Merit in theQueen’s Birthday honour’s list.

After spotting the front pagearticle on his award in lastTuesday’s Waipa Post online inthe UK, the former Kihikihi resi-dent who features in Te Awa-mutu’s Walk of Fame replied tothe sports editor with the follow-ing email:

“It is a great honour andprivilege to receive this (Queen’sBirthday honour’s) award, especially for doing a job I love.

“I have always taken greatpride in representing New Zea-land and will go on doing so.

“Not much time to celebrate, however, as it’s a busy time of theyear.

“I leave for another interna-tional event tomorrow here in thenorth of the UK,” all the best,Andrew.

The event Andrew was refer-ring to was the Bramham Inter-national Horse Trials that ranfrom June 7-10 in WestYorkshire.

Nicholson, who has threetimes won the the event’s show-case Equi-Trek CCI three starclass — in 2016 aboard Jet Set IV,in 2009 on Nereo and in 2006 onHenry Tankerville — lined upaboard Swallow Springs andYacabo BK.

His clear showjumping roundon Swallow Springs has seen himfinish second behind Germanrider Julia Krajewski (GER) andChipmunk FRH.

Nicholson was fifth after thedressage, moving up to fourth atthe end of cross country, andwere on the podium with their 28penalty point effort.

The gracious runner-up paidtribute to the winner who ledfrom the get-go, finishing on theirdressage score of 19.4.

“Julia’s done a superb dress-age, beautiful cross countryround and a lovely showjumping

round. If you are beaten, you liketo be beaten by someone who hasdone a proper job at all phases.”

He had watched hershowjumped and felt the horsehad just jumped better and better.

“It is nice to win, but if you getbeaten by someone who has donea proper job, you have to behappy and appreciate how goodthey are as well.” Nicholson alsohad plenty to say about his

10-year-old grey gelding.“He is probably at the top of

the list now with me . . . probablymy number one horse.

“He will head to Burghleynext. He has always been a goodhorse at all the levels from themoment he started.”

The horse had made the crosscountry feel very easy andNicholson said he had improveda lot over the past year.

“If he can keep stepping upeach time, it will be good for thefuture for the big stuff.”

Nicholson and Yacabo BK fin-ished in 43rd spot on 78.6.

This year’s Bramham eventattracted one of its most interna-tional fields, with entries from 13nations.

Just 47 combinations startedthe final phase with 15 addingnothing further to their scores.

Pink selling outmultiple concerts

■ WIN: PINK CD

Well folks, just when we thought we hadPink pegged and told you she’d justannounced her fifth Spark Arena show shegoes and steals a march on us all andannounces another one. That’s right, asixth (and we’re told final) show has nowgone on sale.

So we’re giving you a further chance towin a copy of her current album BeautifulTrauma as the ideal precursor to herupcoming shows. It contains awesomesingles and top tracks such as What AboutUs, Beautiful Trauma, Revenge, Secrets, ForNow, Barbies and I Am Here.

Expect to see those and hits and fanfavourites such as Get The Party Started,Just Like A Pill, Try, Just Give Me A Reason,Just Like Fire, F**kin’ Perfect, Raise YourGlass, Bow Me (One Last Kiss), So What andGlitter In The Air among others, performedat the show.

There’s been a lot said about her liveshow, the first time she will have gracedour shores since 2007.

Apparently, the enduring pop star is atone point suspended upside-down anddangling above the crowd, supported onlyby a dancer-acrobat clutching her left foot.

Reportedly there was no harness (thatmight have to change in New Zealand) asshe climbs onto the muscular man, posingand twirling, somehow maintaining a levelof sensuality through it all.

Oh, and she’s singing live the entire time— on key and belting.

This is real danger, folks. And the thrillthat accompanies it, and bleeds into the restof this marvellous two-hour performance, issomething of electrifying, addictive won-der.

Through dynamic stunts, thoughtful

staging, brilliant vocal performances andtouches of “still a girl from Doylestown, Pa.”humour and wit, Pink — an artist who’salready set the standard for extravagant popperformance with past high-flying routines— has managed to outdo herself yet again.

Her new Beautiful Trauma Roadshowis, without question, the tour to beat in 2018.

It's easy to see why she’s gone to sixshows at Auckland’s Spark Arena (Tuesday,4; Wednesday, 5; Friday, 7; Saturday, 8;Monday, 10 and Tuesday, 11 September).

It’s hard to imagine why you would wantto be anywhere else. Tickets fromTicketmaster.

■ You can enter by text (write TAC Pink CD, plusyour name and address, and text it to 021 2414568) or mail (address to The Pink CDCompetition and include your name, address anddaytime phone number). Deadline is 5pm Friday.

This competition is provided by ‘Fill The House Tickets Project’, proudly supportingfamilies of children with cancer.
