We had a very successful Education Day. Dave Weber from Employers Insurance and Linda Luka from West Bend Insurance were fantastic speakers. The comments were all positive. We had 24 attendees. Several were from Wisconsin. I believe all credits have been entered into the State Data Base for those of you needing your Continuing Education Credits. Thank you for those of you who assisted in the marketing, obtaining speakers, and assisting during the event, as well as your personal par-ticipation as registrants. It appears that we made a profit and a report will be given at the next meeting. Jan Noyes, CPIW, AU

I attended the Minnesota Council Friday night events hosted by the Young and New Professionals. They all made it a wonderful fun evening. A group of about ten of us had dinner at the Machine Shed on Friday eve-ning with Linda Luka our RVP, Linda's assistant Sheila Fenolio, Betty Smith from Mid Wisconsin Insurance Profes-sionals, a member-at-large, IPGM and SPAIP members. We then went back to the hospitality room for some fun. Lynne Carlson, CPIW and Mary Ann St. Marie, CPIW co-chaired the Minnesota Council Meeting.

A first timers session was held on Saturday Morning with Linda Luka and Sheila Fenolio. There were four or five SPAIP first timers. Last month the Minnesota Supreme Court made a decision that will affect personal auto insurance coverage in the state. The Court ruled that the family of a Willmar man killed in an auto accident should be able to receive money from his auto insurance policy even though the auto was being used for work. This decision attacks the standard personal auto policy’s work exclusion and could cause auto insurance carries to broaden their coverage and raise premiums.

For many years Minnesota auto insurers have been excluding coverage for personal autos used for work purposes. A potential solution to this issue would be to have the legislature enact a specific exclusion for work related activities to the Minnesota No-Fault law.
