ARCHITECTURAL LANDSCAPE

COMMITTEE (ALC)

Home Improvements Trends This calendar year has again been an active year for the Architectural Land-scape Committee (ALC), with a total of 225 applications processed through May. As the committee reviewed these applications, certain trends in the types of exterior improvements are clearly emerging:

• Exterior structural modifications are by far the most frequently requested improvement.

(Top four items are patio construction or additions, sun shades or screens, driveway pavers and window replace-ments.)

• Landscape upgrades and changes are the second most frequently requested improvement.

Painting changes account for the third most frequently requested improvement. Summertime is not only a good time to be doing your exte-rior improvements, but is also a great time to be planning and submitting your improvements to be done in the fall. Careful planning and early application to the ALC are the best ways to prepare for your improvement projects. The application process requires: • Completed and signed Application Form

• Detail site map indicating the area of work to be done Helpful items to include or perform are: • Review applicable ALC Standards against the work pro-posed • Drawings and manufacturers’ brochure information Photographs of the house and area of work are also helpful to the committee in reviewing the application. For detailed projects, homeowners are encouraged to attend the ALC meeting when their application is being reviewed to answer any questions or present additional information. Summertime meetings are: June 18-paperwork due June 11 July 16-paperwork due July 9 August 20-paperwork due August 13 ALC members are also available for contact any time to discuss your upcoming projects or assist you with complet-ing your submittal. The ALC is looking forward to assist-ing you with your home project as a future investment in our community.

An Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) meeting is held weekly on Wednesdays at 7:00pm in the Catalina II Room. This is a one-hour "Open" meeting, held each week, for the past 4 years. An AA "Open" meeting means that alcoholics, their spouses, relatives, friends, visitors and persons who want information about AA are all welcome.

Summer Hiatus Thanks to all the wonderful planners, hosts and diners for a ex-ceptional and tasty Adventures in Dining season! Enjoy the sum-mer, wherever you are spending it, then plan for another exciting AID year starting September 12, 2015. Safe travels!

The Highlands Neighbor to Neighbor lending program is availa-ble to assist all Highlands residents. It only takes an email to lend or borrow a piece of medical equipment or item for visiting grandchildren. Loaned equipment is available for a limit of 4 weeks. To borrow or loan equipment contact Judy Poffenberger at [email protected] or Ann Freeman at [email protected]. Please do not call us as we may be out of town but we can always receive and send email. This is a strictly neighbor to neighbor act of sharing. It is not a HHHOA committee.

REIKI LEVEL II TRAINING

Saturday, June 13, 2015 12:00 – 5:00 pm

This training will enable you to increase your capacity for chan-neling energy and to intensify the healing energy you send to other people and to animals, whether within reach or at a distance. You will be enabled to bridge dimensions and access information across time and space and do work to heal your inner child, balance your chakras, and change unwanted habits. The fee is $100. $30 for those already attuned at Level II who desire a refresher. Contact Highlands resident Judy Ferrig, M.S., Reiki Master at (520) 245-4214 [email protected] IARP and NCBTMB certified; CE hours available.

Meets Every Monday, 4:15pm

Catalina II Room Al-Anon is a fellowship of relatives and friends of alcoholics, who share their experience, strength and hope in order to solve their common problems. The one purpose of Al-Anon is to help families of alcoholics.

Partners in Planning for Long-Term Options is a service offered by PCOA. This is a decision-support process where individuals, family members and/or significant others can find assistance in planning for their long-term care needs. Partners in Planning provides a comprehensive approach including education and information through face-to-face consultation, resource materials about the options available, and a personalized plan to guide your decisions. There is a simple fee of $75.00 per person and $125 per couple. To schedule a Partners in Planning session, call the PCOA Help Line at 520-790-7262. A limited number of the PCOA newsletter, Never Too Late, are available in the HH library at the clubhouse. PCOA Ambassador for The Highlands, Mary Lou Hawkins (979-3264) is available for information about services available through Pima Council on Aging.

The temperature is rising and the sun is shining brighter each day but there are still Highlands residents that need a little extra sunshine. If you know of a Highlands resident that is having surgery, ill, suffering a loss in the family or simply needs a boost, send an email to Ann Freeman at [email protected] with the resident’s name and situa-tion and a card will be sent from The Highlands HOA. Without your help someone may not receive that little boost that they really need.

WEDNESDAY EVENING BIBLE STUDY

ON SUMMER VACATION

This is to announce that the twice-monthly bible study that meets on Wednesday evenings will re-cess for the summer. Many residents have already headed back to their summer homes and many have guests visiting. Our plan is to revive our study group in the fall and will be completing Ephesians, Chapter 6.
