Shared EthosHow do we decide who to trust our clients with on the other side of the planet?

The answer is shared ethos; the fundamental and distinctive character of a partner organisation, typically expressed in attitudes, habits, values, and beliefs.

Visit our global partners’ websites and you will find all of us espousing the same critical success factors and values, in very similar style (regardless of language). So what do we all believe in?

• We all believe in every leadership development initiative being aligned directly to strategic business outcomes. We call this alignment.

• We all believe in using the most up-to-date tools and processes to drive the most effective and professional development outcomes. This means we must continually improve our tools, processes, and thinking, in order not just to match best practice, but invent next practice. We call this innovation.

• We all believe that the more self-aware leaders are, the more they commit to and succeed, in development initiatives. We all achieve this via respectful but robust assessment. We call this illumination.

• We all believe in co-creating solutions with our clients that are a precise, effective and unique fit for that organisation, and we all know from experience that each organisation we work with is different. We call this customisation.

• We all believe that we cannot be commercially successful unless we are delivering commercial success to our clients. We call this partnering.

• We all believe in operating ethically and honestly with every leader and every client we work with. This requires working with properly qualified consultants, demonstrating a high duty of care to every participant in any of our development initiatives, and creating a safe environment in which to explore and learn. We call this respect.

• We all believe we can trust those who have built highly respected practices around the world over the past 20 years. This takes passion, commitment, and experience. We call this trust.

The Power of NetworkHFL is not a global company, but we have global reach.

HFL doesn’t have to rely only on its own team to generate innovative ideas and initiatives; we leverage off eight such teams around the world.

HFL doesn’t have to rely on one experienced, highly motivated, entrepreneurial leadership team for planning success of our practice today and tomorrow; we leverage the passion and commitment of seven other such practices around the planet.

Welcome to HFL’s Global Leadership development network, which boasts a team of nearly 500 people, servicing 60 national markets across the globe.

What binds us together is a common ethos about the importance of delivering effective, business-aligned leadership development initiatives to the highest professional and ethical standards for more than 1,000 clients.

We help our clients export great initiatives to their people and offices around the world effortlessly, cost effectively, and with total professionalism.

Use the power of our network today.

Accelerated Leadership DevelopmentThe first criteria for the eight leadership development practices forming this network of co-operation was, as described on the previous page, shared ethos. We all think and operate in the same style, to the same standards, with the same ambition; providing excellent outcomes for our clients, participants, and organisations alike.

The second criteria was each leadership practice is able to provide a similar suite of services that make up an accelerated leadership development initiative. These are:

strategic leadership alignment Helping organisations understand the difference leadership makes to executing short and long term strategy. Building customised leadership frameworks that are meaningful and relevant to each organisation.

Comprehensive assessment services From simple psychometric reports to three day assessment and development centres, helping organisations benchmark best practice, current bench strength, and clarify bench potential.

Leadership development program design Utilising the latest techniques to get cut through behaviour change. Developing blended leadership initiatives to deliver measured outcomes in leadership groups from the front line to the C-suite.

Leadership development program delivery Utilising highly qualified, experienced consultants, helping our clients deliver workshops, action learning sets, coaching, mentoring, e-learning, and learning forums.

How do we deliver? Each partner organisation is independently owned, and operates independently. In order to better service our clients, we come together to collaborate and partner on global initiatives when required. Usually, a single partner takes the “project lead” and handles all transactions on behalf of the client; while our project teams handle the global logistics involved in such initiatives. A single design may be developed in Australia, for example, and then rolled out consistently (or with relevant local modifications) throughout the world.

Testimonials

Harbour Future Leaders worked with our organisation to help us develop a detailed and bespoke programme in support of the continued professional development of our Senior Management Team. All members of the leadership team undertook attendance at a Development Centre, where they participated in a comprehensive and demanding range of activities and exercises, designed to test and explore their capabilities as leaders within business.

All of the team felt that the day had been extremely professionally developed and executed, but more importantly, felt that they had been stretched and challenged. Detailed and clearly articulated feedback was shared with each Leader, and this output has provided each individual with an objective and comprehensive overview of their strengths and development areas in order we can now tailor a very individually designed development programme.

In summary, there is no doubt that this intervention will play a significant part in the ongoing development of our Senior Leadership team and, consequently, in the ultimate achievement of our business aims.

CAROL NICHOLSON, head oF hUman resoUrCes, CoaTes oFFshore

For the past two years our senior team has been on an intense leadership development journey, designed and delivered by Harbour Future Leaders.

These programs have changed the way we think about our business, the way we lead our people, and indeed, the way we lead ourselves. HFL have become valued, trusted partners in our business.

I would happily recommend them to other organisations as a safe and valuable choice in a crowded market.

RON KOEHLER, ChieF eXeCUTive oFFiCer, db sChenker

Harbour Future Leaders works with both our Emerging Leaders and Future Leaders talent development programs. Participants in the Emerging Leaders Program indicated a significant increase in their leadership abilities as a result of the program. We received the following comments:

• Delegation and placing trust in the people to get the job done. Listening and asking questions. More confidence in myself that I can do it.

• Realised that management/leadership time is important. Delegating jobs to others. Thinking more strategically about the future of the group and how we will get there.

Harbour Future Leaders is efficient to work with, innovative in their content and pro-active in seeking to improve the programs to better meet our needs.

DIANA CROSS, aUsTraLasian hr manaGer, arUp, a GLobaL Firm oF ConsULTinG enGineers, desiGners, pLanners and proJeCT manaGers

We have worked with the Harbour Future Leaders team in developing our organisational capability at the executive and senior leader level at Hallmark across Australia and New Zealand over the last 3 years.

This strategic partnership has helped us develop best and next practice approaches, customised development through assessments of our bench strength via a development centre approach, action learning, tailored skill building workshops and coaching. Most importantly the approach has supported the delivery of our business strategy, been supported and endorsed by the ANZ Executive Team and achieved return on investment in the form of senior level promotions and increase of capability across both levels.

We have also achieved significant and innovative commercial outcomes born from our action learning projects. We have found the team at HFL to be highly knowledgeable, adaptive, commercial and inspired to deliver outcomes for our business that are tangible and sustainable.
