Hadrian’s Wall AdventureEleven boys from Years 8 and 9 spent three days discovering the wonders
of Hadrian’s Wall at the beginning of the summer Half-Term. Enjoying excellent weather, they visited numerous sites along their route.

This summer Year 6 returned to the Kingswood Education and Activity centre at Dearne Valley near Doncaster. They enjoyed a variety of exciting activities including Zipwire, High equilibrium, Crate stack. Although they got very wet building shelters in the Bushcraft session they did not let the rain dampen their spirits.
The annual Year 7 trip to Pickering experienced excellent weather and the usual activities certainly kept the boys busy.
The Year 8 residential trip was to Cala Llevado in Tossa de Mar where they stayed in wooden cabins by the sea. The boys enjoyed kayaking, snorkelling, sailing, paddle boarding and banana boating on the Mediterranean Sea during the day and climbing and archery at the resort in the evening. They also spent a day at Lloret de Mar water park, took an evening trip to the beautiful town of Tossa de Mar and completed a tour of the Nou Camp stadium and strolled around Parc Guell in Barcelona.
Pickering experienced excellent weather and the usual activities certainly kept the boys busy.

Junior Prize GivingOur guest of honour this year was again a distinguished OL, author Mr Chris Hawkes. During his time here, 1983 to 1990, Chris, a left-arm spin bowler and batsman, won the Daily Telegraph Schoolboy Cricketer of the Year on two occasions. He played for England at both U15 & U19 level and then briefly played first-class cricket for Leicestershire before pursuing a career primarily in sports publishing.
After last year when Sports Day had to be abandoned for the first time in anyone’s memory, this year’s event took place in glorious weather and was enjoyed by a very substantial audience.

Something Wicked This Way ComesHalloween 2013 came early to Loughborough when this year’s School Book ‘Something Wicked This Way Comes’ by Ray Bradbury was distributed to the boys on Friday 14th June.
To commemorate the book launch a circus-themed lunch was prepared, the plan being to enjoy it on the field, but, alas, the heavens opened and festivities had to be moved indoors. However, it was all the fun of the fair with candy floss, popcorn and ice cream completing a barbeque feast.
County ChampionsThe U14 XI are Leicestershire County Cricket Champions after a comprehensive victory against Oakham School. After losing out to the same opponents last year, this was a particularly satisfactory result.

Twelve Memorable DaysThe Senior Cricket Tour to Sri Lanka certainly lived up to expectations both on and off the field.
Match venues were excellent, including two international grounds, hotels were magnificent and our welcome, wherever we went, was fantastic.
On the field four matches were won, two lost and the final match was abandoned due to true monsoon conditions.
Off the field, a great time was had by all. Highlights included visits to a spice garden, a tea factory and the Elephant Orphanage, but our day at our charity projects will live long in everyone’s memories.

Art ExhibitionOn a less than summery evening at the end of June everyone who braved the elements to applaud the work of our Entry Level, GCSE and A Level students at the Annual Art and Design Exhibition could only be awed by the quantity and quality of work on show.
Writers’ BlockYear Six try to find a suitable topic for their end of year show in which they find that art imitates life or, in this case, members of the Senior Leadership Team.
Year 8 Drama FestivalA change in format this year proved to be very successful and the assembled talents of Year 8 put on splendid evening of physical and more traditional theatre.
Summer at last!The now annual LES Music School Al Fresco event was blessed with glorious weather this year and the crowds turned out in their droves to support the myriad of performers who entertained them royally.

CCF Field Day always provides a multitude of opportunities for the boys: this year amongst other activities Year 10s created imaginative mosaics; Year
6 visited the Twin Lakes Theme Park; the Royal Naval Section sailed at Staunton Harold Reservoir.
The VSU spent the day at the National Memorial Arboretum with the ladies they look after throughout the year. After lunch they were entertained by “forties favourite”, Lola Lamour...

Invited to take part in the National Armed Forces Day event, in front of an audience of thousands of visitors to the Nottingham’s Victoria Embankment Arena, the cadets of the Royal Navy, Army and Royal Air Force Field Gun teams took part in a demonstration of their Annual Inter-Service Competition.
Following hard on the heels of the RAF Parachute team landing in the Arena with precision timing, and commentated upon by Wing Commander Peter Sergeant, the Competition attracted considerable attention from the on-site television relay crews and the sight of close-
ups of the gun teams in action on the giant television screens added considerably to the spectacle and to the enjoyment of the spectators and competitors alike.
The Royal Engineers aerial runway construction skills were tested to the limits by the logistics but they rose to the occasion magnificently.
The winning Army team then had a photocall with Hero the Bear, the Help For Heroes mascot.

Ian Cheung, a Corporal in the RAF Section of the School’s CCF, has been awarded a highly prestigious and hard-won flying scholarship by Headquarters Air Cadets and is seen here at Tayside Aviation where he was undertaking a week of flying training. His training was very rigorous and exactly the same as that undertaken by RAF pilots embarking on their careers.
