The House Music and Dance competition yesterday evening was yet another tribute to the excellent leadership of the Sixth Form House Captains and the participation of so many talented students across the school. For highlights go to @HHSHouseEvents which captured the evening as it progressed and included the overall winners chosen by judges including former students Tom Durrant and Owen Lloyd: Latimer (House Music) and Nettleden (House Dance). Congratulations to all who took part and thanks to all those who supported the event behind the scenes and in the audience. Each year the school hosts the regional final of the Rotary Club Young Chef of the year and on Wednesday participants from a number of local schools took part in the competition in which contestants prepare and present a three course meal within a pre-set budget and time limit, which is judged by an expert panel. It was an excellent event and congratulations to Rebecca Wildsmith (10L) who was The Hemel Hempstead School contestant. The school marked Remembrance Day with a short service in Reception conducted by William Benjamin (Head Boy), Emily Jelfs (Head Girl) and Calum Rankin (Deputy Head Boy) supported by the Headteacher and a number of our musicians, including Sam Jenkins (13C) who marked the end of the two minute silence with a rendition of The Last Post. The names of former students of the school who lost their life during active service are recorded on the memorials by the entrance to the Library. Their names are: Kenneth Selden Robert High Lewis Stubbington Robert Duke Jack Colyer Ivor Slade Henry Bagshaw Constantine McGarry William Newman Geoffrey Saunders Joseph Keene Matthew Harrison We will remember them. Patrick Harty Headteacher LOST PROPERTY There are lots of coats, shoes, non-school uniform clothing and sundry items (car keys, house keys and glasses) in Lost Property that have yet to be claimed by students. Parents/carers are welcome to come along to view the items in the hope that some of this property may be returned to its rightful owners. If the lost property is not collected by the end of this term it will be disposed of. Please note that Matron always returns any named items to the students.

IMPORTANT REMINDER Parking and Vehicles around the School Site Parents are reminded that when picking up and dropping off students by car they should NOT drive on to the school site unless the student has a physical disability. PLEASE DO NOT STOP OR PARK NEAR TO

EITHER ENTRANCE (Heath Lane or Anchor Lane)

Students may be dropped off and collected from Beechfield Road or the Sportspace car park in Heath Lane (please be aware of the maximum 20 minutes wait time). When parking in nearby roads please do not park on the pavement (obstructing wheelchair or double buggy access) or across residents’ driveways. If everybody follows these guidelines then we should be able to ensure that the flow of traffic around the school is reasonable at all times, that all users can access the site effectively and, most importantly, that we are able to keep all our students safe. Many thanks.

SPORTS NEWS Indoor Athletics On Wednesday 2nd November, our U14 Boys and Girls Athletics Squads travelled to Lea Valley for the annual Indoor Athletics Championships. The boys and girls competed against five other schools from Hertfordshire and Essex in a variety of Track & Field events. The girls finished in third place overall and the boys won the event, resulting in both teams qualify for the next round. Congratulations to all those involved. Girls Rugby On Friday 4th November our U13 and U15 Girls Rugby teams took part in the annual Herts Schools Rugby Tournament. Despite the freezing cold weather and the rain the girls played some fantastic rugby. The U13 Girls finished unbeaten, winning every game! Well done to all those involved.
