The Hecate Labyrinth at Mavens’ Haven Like all respectable mythological figures, Hecate’s ancient origins are unclear and her associations varied. She is a Triple Goddess, representing Maiden, Mother, and Crone. As such, she guards crossroads, gates, and entrances. Hecate is also associated with the moon, witchcraft, protection of family, herbal medicine, and the labyrinth. The Hecate Labyrinth is distinguished by a Y in the middle of the spiral. Labyrinths are found all over the world in ancient sacred places. They combine the symbolism of the circle and spiral, representing wholeness, journeys, discovery, vision, and the path of knowledge and transformation. They are distinct from mazes, which are puzzles with choices. A labyrinth has one intentional path taking us to the center and out again. As such, the labyrinth is a place for contemplation and prayer. You can ask a question, set an intention, or just practice mindfulness. In one tradition the walker rings a bell in between each repetition of a mantra, koan, sutra, or prayer, so we have a lovely unicorn bell by the entrance. Walk slowly and invite your intuition, higher self, or divine presence. Our Hecate Labyrinth is a community space located beside the sheep wagons on the river. You are invited to come walk, tend weeds, and bring a gift--a stone, flower bulb, shell, succulent, river glass, some organic whimsy.
