His father, Andrés Tuy, an elder in the Monte Sinaí Church, was attending the Maya Quiché Presbytery meeting when he learned the news. * The family & friends of Ernestine Davis.Ernestine passed away on October 28, after a long illness. Family visitation will be Thursday, Nov. 5, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Lawrence A. Jones & Sons Funeral Chapel, 1800 East Linwood, Kansas City, MO; and her memorial service will be later that day at at 5 p.m. at her church, Covenant Presbyterian, 5931 Swope Parkway, Kansas City, MO. Ernestine was a mother, a school teacher, and a mentor to many Presbyterian Women and Church Women United. She was a Presbyterian Elder, and held a number of offices and served on boards and committees in her congregation, in Presbyterian Women and in Heartland Presbytery. She was chosen Valiant Woman by Church Women United in Kansas City, MO, having served in many capacities in that organization over the years. Her wisdom and deep knowledge were a guide and inspiration to all who knew her. Her obituary notice is in the Kansas City Star, dated November 3rd. * The family & friends of Victor Carl Carlson. Victor passed Monday, November 2nd, at Fair Haven. He was the father to one of the Heartland Presbytery's very own pastor's, Rev. Dave Carlson. He was a member of the Rutherfordton Presbyterian Church. Vic volunteered at Habitat For Humanity Restore in Forest City from 20042011. Click here to read the complete obituary notice. We will begin with dinner followed by the Rev. Alonzo Johnson speaking. He will focus onurban congregations and their opportunity to be peacemakers in the community. The Rev. Alonzo Johnson is the Mission Associate with the Presbyterian Peacemaking

Program. Alonzo has concluded his service as the pastor/head of staff of Oak Lane

Presbyterian Church in Philadelphia, PA. He is a graduate of Louisville Presbyterian

Theological Seminary (LPTS) and is currently a candidate for his Doctor of Ministry degree

at LPTS. He is passionate about peacemaking and social justice issues and has rich

Per capita was approved at the stated meeting of the presbytery on September 22nd. Thetotal per member is $39.52, and it is broken down as follows:

$29.68 to Heartland Presbytery

$2.72 to the Synod of Mid­America

$7.12 to the General Assembly, PC (USA)

Mission Magnified ­ A Mission Conference at Heartland CenterNovember 19­21

Mission leaders from aroundthe country will gather for worship and reflection, connection and community, all while gaining practicaltools for use in local, regional and international mission work. Presbyterian Disaster Assistance responds to Southeast coastalflooding

The Southeast coast is experiencing severe and unprecedented flooding. At its height, morethan 400 roads, 150 bridges and two major interstates (I­20 and I­95) were closed, isolating thecommunities that were most in need of comfort and assistance. South Carolina has borne thebrunt of the devastation, enduring what has been described as a 1,000­year flood, and forsome, more is still to come.

You can join in the response and encourage those in need by standing in the"GAP"­Give. Act. Pray.

Are you being called to help youth reach their full potential in ourlocal community? Do you long to make our community a betterplace?

Heartland 180 ­ a non­profit organization committed to assisting youth to live to their fullpotential ­ is beginning their second year in Kansas City, Kansas. The 180 Degrees Program ­beginning Tuesday, January 19 ­ meets after school on Mondays thru Thursdays. This is acommunity­based program which will teach our youth the research­based curriculum called the"180 Degrees Program" ­ focusing on character education, life skills, social­emotional learning,21st century skills, and community outreach among other critical skill sets.

180 Degrees Program facilitators will come from the community and receive 24 hours oftraining. Facilitators may be current or retired educators, social workers, state employees,community leaders and others who have a heart for working with youth. Modest stipendscovering costs such as transportation are provided.

The 180 Degrees Program training will take place daily, January 4 thru January 7 from 9:00am­ 3:00pm.
