Marias Medical Center(MMC) is excited to be workingtoward the completion of anInfusion Center, which will allowpatients in our surrounding areaaccess to quality infusion servicesclose to home.

The first phase of this projectwill be the renovation of ahospital room to accommodatethese patients with a comfortablechair and atmosphere. MMCoffers a variety of infusions andinjections right now with anorder from a provider including:Intravenous (IV) antibiotic

therapyIV fluid therapyIV ironIV/injectable medications

for chronic conditions such asosteoporosis, rheumatoidarthritis, asthma, and multiplesclerosis.

MMC can also offer certainmedications to provide support-ive care while on chemotherapy;such as medications to treatanemia, low neutrophils (a typeof white blood cell), low plate-lets, high calcium, or otherconditions associated with che-motherapy treatment. Medicationorders may be written by aprimary care provider, or special-ties such as neurology, oncology, nephrology, rheumatology, pulmonology, etc.

After the second phase whichinvolves reconstruction of theMMC pharmacy, chemotherapyinfusions will be available. Thisphase is very costly due to theneed for special equipment and

infrastructure to safely handlethese medications.

Marias Medical Center alsohas full-service laboratory andradiology departments tocomplete your other testing closeto home. Laboratory offersin-house testing and quickturnaround times for monitoringblood counts, kidney and liverfunction, therapeuticphlebotomy, and much more.Radiology features a CT scanner,1.5T MRI scanner, x-ray,mammography, DEXA scanner, ultrasound, and fluoroscopy.

those medications near home atMMC. Unfortunately, at thistime, we are not able to offercytotoxic medications due tothe present design of ourpharmacy. The estimate for thatrenovation project is $358,769,which is not possible with ourcurrent financial situation. Ourplan is to continue workingtoward this goal, andfundraising for the project isongoing.

Since my last report, theemployees and managers havetaken part in various trainingsessions, including but notlimited to, leadership training, quality improvement, pediatricmass casualty exercise, Mis-sion Lifeline cardiac training,Antimicrobial Stewardship,High Infections Disease.

In May, the managementteam at MMC, along side theToole County Commissioners, completed a day of strategicplanning for our facility.During that thought provoking, intense session, we updated ourMission, Vision, and ValuesStatement. Our mission is tobe “Your Trusted HealthcareChoice”. Our vision is “Striv-ing to provide excellent,patient-focused care”. Finally, our value statement is: We areSincere in our care. We valueProfessionalism and Privacy, act with Integrity, and showRespect for all. We are Inno-vative and strive to be Trustedin all we do! We are theSPIRIT of caring.

Our 2017/2018 strategic planfocuses on developing relation-

ships with outside entities topromote growth. We will workto expand our relationship withMarias Healthcare Services, Incand other Shelby businesses. Wewill explore relationships withother physicians, includingvisiting specialty physicians andtelemedicine. We will also workclosely with other critical accesshospitals, Emergency MedicalServices (EMS), and IndianHealth Service (IHS).

Second, we will focus ondelivering quality care, whilestriving to keep costs compa-rable to other facilities. We willfocus on quality in providing allservices at MMC. Third, we willfoster a culture of engagedemployees. Marketing thefacility will be another focus ofthe management team. Finally, communication will be at theforefront of the goals developedcollaboratively by the team. Iwas very proud of the effort andideas that our team put into theplanning. With their experienceand insight, we had some greatdiscussions.

The management team wasalso challenged with a goal toexplore bringing new servicelines to MMC and the residentsof Toole County and the sur-rounding areas. Stay tuned forexpanded services in the future.

Thank you again for yourcontinued support of MariasMedical Center. If you have anyquestions or concerns, we wouldbe happy to hear from you.

Sincerely,Jessica Brusven, CEO

Although we have had chal-lenges, we feel strongly that weare moving in the right direction, with the help of a great team ofemployees, physicians and strongcommunity support.

Plans continue to move forwardat Marias Medical Center. Iwould like to follow up on a fewitems that I mentioned in theprevious newsletter. First, Imentioned that we signed acontract with Kalispell RegionalMedical Center for MRI services.Since then, the new MRI scannerhas arrived and been a greatservice for our patients. With thenew larger and state of the artmachine, we are able to completetests in Shelby that were notpossible with our previous unit, thus increasing the number ofMRIs completed locally.

I also wrote about the InfusionCenter project. We currentlyoffer a variety of infusions andinjectable medications, andcontinue to work toward beingable to offer chemotherapymedications. We are currentlyremodeling a room at MMC tomake it more comfortable for ourpatients to receive their infusionsor injections as out-patients. Weencourage our patients to commu-nicate with their physicians andinquire if they are able to receive
